Canales on what to expect against Steelers!!!
ColumbusCounty replied to Doc LRB's topic in Carolina Panthers
Idunno but I feel like the starters will end up playing tonight. This seems too familiar to last offseason ...almost the same situation. -
DLew is a massive human and probably our best lineman at the moment..Wharton was still a solid pickup and yea we massively overpaid for his services but that's just the reality when your a team with 7 consecutive losing seasons. Once the games count he'll show up. We might not get our $$ worth (top 10- 15) but he's undoubtedly a couple steps up from Tuttle. Him, Brown+Brown+ Robinson should make a very solid lineup in theory.

He already played in a 3 man front and quite well….but go off on his true fit.

I respect the attitude Lewis plays with. As an aside. Wasn't Wharton one of the lowest graded defenders against the Browns? Edit: He was. https://www.carolinahuddle.com/topic/478458-notable-pff-grades-vs-browns/?do=findComment&comment=6913888

Preseason Week 3 - vs. Pittsburgh (practice tweets, discussion, etc)

So we go from horrible offensive series by the starters against Houston to then light practice (lol) to now virtually no starters and apparently 4 quarters of Jack Plummer? Sounds like a dicey recipe entering the regular season with two road games back to back. -

Yeah so unless Brycen is dealing with an injury they didn’t mention he’s made the team or possibly being traded TMac, Coker, Thielen, Xavier, Tremayne Horn, Renfrow and Moore on outside battling for last 2? Maybe 1 spot? I really hope they don’t trade Thielen. This WR room is still a massive question mark. So to trade Young’s most reliable target going into a crucial year 3… I don’t like it -

Doesn't matter anyways. There's plenty sample size with the Panthers to know he's largely horrendous at making decisions of any kind. Aside from putting the logo at midfield. I mean that's it. -

Not delighted to hear of the offense making the defense look great in practice a few days ago considering the number of points they've given up in just two preseason games. We'll see how they look tonight. -

That's gonna be a fun hole to dig out of if we can him and end up back in a 4-3 base. Honestly, I would be far less worried about that in terms of those IDL guys than I would our EDGE guys.

I've got an event @ 7:30pm tonight, so I'm probably going to head out in an hour so that I can get there by 7pm and catch the beginning of the game. NFL+ and NFL Pro have been pretty good about getting the replays up soon after the games are done. Figure I'll have plenty to watch while waiting for opening day. -
I thought Brown and Jackson were going to be the NTs. Pretty sure Wharton is more of a pass rusher maybe I'm wrong though
-
Turk signed a 3-year, $45M deal but in actuality it's at worst a 2-year, $30.25M w/ a $14.5M signing bonus. His ~$15M AAV puts him at 16th out of all DTs currently (DB is 4th). Milton Williams, for comparison, has an AAV of $26M on a 4-year, $104M deal that had $51M guaranteed at signing. His deal has an out after two years as well, meaning that it can also end up being a 2yr, $55M or 3yr, $79M deal. I can't remember which content creator (maybe Brett Kollman?) made it but there was a really good video on YouTube calling out how reporting the full details of deals was done more for the media to get reactions and eyeballs on the story.

Brown and Jackson pretty much protypical NTs. Brown started at NT last 2 seasons in 3-4. Jackson has only played NT in 3-4 in college. Brown could play any 3-4 line position but his quickness is suited for end. Our OLB are all best suited for 3-4
-
Better than trying to make him a pass rusher that he's not. Those guys who can occupy two blockers and not give up ground are hard to find.
-
So you're paying franchise DL money to guy who you just hope can occupy two blockers and not give up ground? Seems unwise.

Only thing I think might be interesting is the WR battle and maybe if Perkins comes in and makes Plummer look like a waste of space. With a team as bad we've been I wouldn't be surprised if a UFL qb could come in off the couch and provide at least a little entertainment. -
He's plenty big enough. We just seem determined to try to make him a pass rusher when that's the weakest part of his game. Just let the guy clog the middle, whether it's in a 4-3 or a 3-4. He's similar to an in shape Kris Jenkins in that most of his pass rush success comes from just physically mauling the OL in front of him. It's never going to be the crux of his game.
