Did you watch him last year? He was one of the most electric players in football.

The Panthers’ Bryce Young Problem is Getting Old

It's a failing of most first time HCs. I get an OC not being a defensive expert but they do play the other side every week so it always amazes me that poop slides so often. First year? Sure but as time goes on they need to be a HC and have a balanced and good team in the end. They went offense for that reason and the QB issues the team had. They had to go WR again this year because they failed so hard last year at that position in the first. That's on both the HC and GM on that miss IMO. This year they went out and got a bunch of free agents and drafted more on the D. It just doesn't appear they did it well again. Add in keeping Evero and missing out on an expensive free agent, thankfully but it would have lessened the cap gap in spending, it's not like they didn't try. It's more of an issue of competency than cap. Building around Evero after last year is damning for thr GM and HC. That's the biggest issue. They just didn't do any of it well. Now they have some younger talent and I don't think there is a decent coach in that house.

Inside linebacker is basically non existent. And that goes against everything that has been Carolina Panthers for a couple decades now. And that is just one such area that has suffered as we have paid through the nose to build up our offense around a bad investment.
-
Thats why its going to suck spending another top 10 pick on a qb instead of an elite Lb, pass rusher or whatever. but it what it is and you have to have a qb to win in this league
-
We also have an offensive coach and put most of our draft capital there. We all knew the D would be bad...its hard to see an O that cant score more than 10 points. Good luck keeping opposing teams to 9 or less points.

I am someone who is skeptical at best of Evero at this point in time. And in hindsight he probably should have been replaced. But you cannot simply dismiss that kind of spending gap and then whail about the defense as if that is our identity at this point in time. Yes we used to be a hard nosed defensive team but that hasn't really been the case for some time now. And just to be clear. I was not the first one to mention the starting QB. At this point just be up front and acknowledge you are just a propaganda machine icege.

Thanks for the work in putting this together! Excellent read.

DB was definitely rusty and wasn't attracting the double blocks that he had in the past. Seahawks fans were saying afterwards that the Panthers found out the hard way that BB3 doesn't play well against the run, but he posted a better run defense grade than pass defense. I'm hoping that with a familiar foe coming up in Arizona that BB3 can settle in more (especially with Turk out for the next few weeks).

They did seem to improve as the game progressed though. I think Derrick Brown needed time to get back up to speed. B. Brown needed to get pissed off too. Confident they'll be better this Sunday. Nick Scott just doesn't move the needle. Ransom can at least give you what he gives you. At least.

How does spending rankings determine sole fault? Outside of the folks that want this to be exclusively Bryce Young's fault, most rational fans understand that the offense and defense combined for a stinker. Bryce didn't play well enough, Nijman didn't play well enough, Corbett didn't play well enough, Legette didn't play well enough, the TEs didn't play well enough, the entire defense minus the CBs didn't play well enough. The only players that played well enough were TMac, Jaycee, Mike Jackson, Hunt, DLew, and Chuba.

Why is everyone focused on BY while the real problem is ignored
Khyber53 replied to cranky's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yep. Blaming Bryce for everything right now is like saying that one peanut is what makes the whole turd stink. -
I’m far from an expert here, but is the system really fine? The inability to stop the run is a long standing thing with Evero. I have no faith in him or his system.

I wonder how much of that is a combination of swapping out over half of the starters from last season and one less week of preseason for teams to get on the same page. We usually see defenses ahead of offenses at the beginning of the season, so the defense starting slow is a concern. It was particularly frustrating seeing guys that have been in the system for a year or longer failing to execute. I like Nick Scott as a person and appreciate his ability to communicate the scheme to the others, but Lathan Ransom has so much more upside. Speaking of Ransom, I'm hoping between today and tomorrow to review all of the rookies on defense since they didn't have many snaps to begin with.

https://overthecap.com/positional-spending We are 10th in offensive spending and 28th in defensive spending. Much has been said about both sides of the ball in the last several days. Some want to blame the defense. The numbers speak volumes. Discuss.

I haven't looked at any of the ILBs in this class. Any recs on who to keep an eye on?

Bryce Young is a problem — what would you do if you were Dan Morgan?
OldhamA replied to OldhamA's topic in Carolina Panthers
I just want to be competitive. It's not a deep team, but there's far more talent on this roster than our record will eventually show if we continue to trot Young out there. -
I've only had time to look at the first few clips, but I think the problem with Evero is that players simply aren't executing. Nobody makes a play on the sweep. Moehrig makes a mistake on the next play. Scott makes a mistake on the next. I guess that's coaching, but fundamentally the system is fine.

https://overthecap.com/positional-spending In 2025 the Panthers are 10th in offensive spending and 28th in defensive spending. But yeah let's blame everything on the defense...

I hate this approach. There's no guarantee you'll like anyone in the next Draft. You can't just pick a guy 'cos you need a QB. Which is why I advocate looking at the guys with NFL tape and trying to prize one of those away until you DO find the guy in the Draft. But granted you're also happy to let Young play out the season, leaving us playing 10v11 all year, so there you go. Different strokes for different folks. -

I don't think you lose anything replacing Thielen with Renfrow. -
The Panthers’ Bryce Young Problem is Getting Old

If Bryce was a not an overall 1st round pick I could understand the people who come to his defense. But from day one he has never looked like a first round QB. Even during the games where he was good last year he looked like any old normal QB. If you are taken 1st overall you are expected to be something special. Bryce is not.
