He's already shown he's a nice guy, I don't think it will work for him to become ruthless at this point. The players will see right through it. You can start out a hard ass then let up a little but not the other way around. lol

New York Times: Is Panthers QB Bryce Young a Lost Cause
d-dave replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
The entire offense is fugged up. It doesn't help we have a sieve for a defense that can barely stop teams that aren't from Atlanta. Bryce came out with physical limitations. The play calling and design isn't helping him. Dave wants an offense that doesn't work for Bryce. In another thread, I said Bryce could probably do well in a Shanahan style WCO with a lot of movement and horizontal routes. We were all sold the bill of good that Bryce was the outlier and he would play bigger and better. We didn't see that his rookie year. We didn't see it until he was benched. Now we're back to an uncomfortable QB who is indecisive and can't play with anticipation. Not a great combo. I'm still in the camp of let Bryce suck, keep the team rolling to a top 10 pick and take another shot at the dart board of QB picks. I'm OK (for now) letting Dave Canales pick his own QB and see what he can do. If we have another 20 games of the poo, then we just start over again. -

it's always the ones you don't expect five years from now we're going to be reading stunned reactions from Adam Thielen. "I just thought he liked to collect children's shoes. Yeah it was weird but everyone has hobbies, ya know?" -

Literally could've been the entire article. LOL -
That's why it's guys who don't have equivalent opportunities elsewhere. I mean, if someone offers me a fat ass paycheck with a guaranteed contract to take a job I'm not qualified for I'm gonna take it and be a whipping boy for awhile with a poo eating grin on my face and move on relieved when they fire me.

but but Tepper sucks, Canales sucks, receivers can't get open or catch, o-line can't block, defense sucks, and the special teams sucks. A young QB can't thrive in those circumstances. -

is bryce not in charge of the people he pays to send press junkets to all the reporters, lobby the gameday announcers, leak things to the press to make him look better? Bryce Young is a fuging operation and it has been since he got to Alabama. He's never said a single authentic thing and has spent almost all of 2025 pouting on the sideline and throwing his helmet and yelling at team mates. The more I think about the more I think his autistic little brother routine is as sincere as XL's accent. -

as anything put roster depth and a backup? Yes. -
Here's what I would say: he's trying to solve a lot of problems and he's not sleeping a lot. The NFL head coaching gig is HARD on people. Dave is trying to be too nice, make everyone happy, and keep the vibes and smiles going. I get it. But leadership is hard. You have to be a hard person. In the NFL, you have to crush dreams daily. Sure, you can lift guys up, but you also have to cut, demote, and fire people. Whether it's his religiosity or his personality, Dave is going to have to learn to be ruthless. We haven't seen that too much. Stop blowing smoke, kissing butt, and just be honest. Certainly be respectful, but you have to be 100% honest.

finally getting national attention. Nothing we don't already know, but pretty eye brow raising that even the paper of record is like "yeah uh this guy sucks." https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6673658/2025/09/30/qb-stock-report-bryce-young-shedeur-sanders-rankings/ There’s been added pressure to make the pick work, too. Stroud delivered an outstanding rookie season, while the Panthers fired head coach Frank Reich after his 11th game; general manager Scott Fitterer was fired after the season. Meanwhile, one of the picks the Panthers traded for Young wound up being the No. 1 selection in 2024, where Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye were among the six first-round QBs available. So yeah, it’s understandable why the Panthers feel a sense of desperation to make it work with Young. It’s why they invested in the offensive line and used back-to-back first-round picks on wide receivers. It’s why they hired Canales, who has done nice work in the past with quarterbacks Geno Smith and Mayfield. Young should have enough runway to at least attempt to turn it around. Veteran Andy Dalton, who turns 38 next month, is the only other quarterback on the active roster, though Hendon Hooker is available on the practice squad. Suffice to say, the Panthers owe it to themselves to see it all the way through with Young. [...] But Young hasn’t kept it going. He’s completed only 60.4 percent of his passes for 753 yards, five touchdowns and three picks this season while also losing a couple of fumbles. Among qualified passers, Young ranks 30th in EPA/dropback, ahead of only Titans rookie Cam Ward, Browns veteran Joe Flacco and Bengals backup Jake Browning. At this point, the Panthers would be all but declaring their intentions to split with Young if they benched him again. If it does reach that point, it’s also likely the Panthers would be barreling toward their eighth consecutive season with a losing record. And since owner David Tepper bought the team in 2018, he’s never employed a head coach for three full seasons, which effectively puts Canales on the clock. This, of course, is the type of turnover that keeps organizations in constant peril. It may also lead to the breaking point that opens the door for Young to find a fresh start with another team.

At this point, I would take an average QB IF I could also have a stout defense and good ST's with it. Give me a team that plays competively, with the defense keeping games within reach. Give me some sacks, hits behind the line and interceptions. Give me a team that plays with some intensity, that is constatnly trying to impose their will on the opposing team. Just don't give me another soft ass team wiffing on tackles. I'll be more than happy wiith that - at least for a while.

How is this an indictment of Bryce personally? Everything from him personally seemed like he handled his part well. What his camp or agent or Bama/SEC homers do is on them. -

Trevin & CSW are not our two worst defenders, that's just incorrect. Brooks & XL picks were terrible I agree, people dragged it at the time too. I agree with the rest, he tried to sign for pass rush but that isn't just available in FA and did what he could with O-line which I think was fine. Morgan trading for Mike Jackson was quite good, and I like his 2025 draft class so far. Robert Hunt getting hurt early in the season pretty much ruined any hope, the team won't be making any reasonable progress with him out and the QB being what he is. -

the rumors of "bryce has tons of trade offers" after getting benched is peak SEC bullshit, and it even came from the beat writer agents leak to. It's the kind of poo stirring designed to make insecure coaches and narcissist owners second guess themselves for fear of missing out on a QB AGAIN. Once the decision is made a ton of knives are going to come out about Bryce from the Panthers end; that's just Tepper's way. I promise the darling of Alabama and future Dancing with the Stars contestant isn't going to just take it. -

I've worked 3 different jobs in 3 different industries in Charlotte, and they were all toxic. A friend of mine experienced the same thing and he still works in the city. Tepper fits the Charlotte mold. From sports to business to politics, Charlotte is just poorly ran. I'm amazed there's any success in anything going on there. -
Not really. I certainly wouldn't call it comical. There 8 teams spending more so it's not like they are way off the scale. Secondly, and more importantly, the majority of the spending is on the OL which I don't mind as much. It is a little high but I would rather have it there then being locked up in a bad QB.

Honestly, I don't want to see Dalton either (though I know it has to happen), but I'm Bryced out. As a Panthers fan, I've seen enough of him for a lifetime. I say get Double H up to speed, see what he has in a Panthers uniform (if anything), and ultimately plan to draft 9's replacement in April.

Pretty wild to have a game in early October that feels like the primary thing being played for is draft position, but here we and the Dolphins are. LOL
