PFF: Biggest free-agent bargains of the 2025 NFL season

CB Michael Jackson, Carolina Panthers Last offseason, the Panthers re-signed Jackson to a contract that averages just $5.25 million across the two years of his deal, which ranks only 40th among cornerbacks. However, Jackson rewarded Carolina with an excellent season, as his 83.5 PFF overall grade was the third-best among cornerbacks across the entire year. More specifically, from Week 7 on, his 90.7 PFF overall grade led all players at the position, as did his 91.4 PFF coverage grade. In addition, he also allowed a passer rating of just 42.8 during this period, which paced all corners. Jackson capped off his 2025 campaign by being the best player on the field in Carolina’s wild-card loss to the Rams. On eight targets, he gave up just one reception while forcing four incompletions and recording an interception as well https://www.pff.com/news/biggest-free-agent-bargains-of-the-2025-nfl-season-sam-darnold-mike-jackson-and-more -

RB Rico Dowdle, Carolina Panthers Dowdle signed a textbook example of a “prove-it” type of deal with Carolina during the 2025 offseason. The former Dallas Cowboys runner signed a one-year deal that was worth just $2.75 million, which ranked only 33rd among the annual average earnings of all running backs — essentially meaning that he was not paid as a starter for last season. However, that did not stop Dowdle from racking up the 14th-most rushing yards among running backs with 1,076 during the regular season. Further, Dowdle was essential over a five-week stretch between Weeks 5-9 when the Panthers went 4-1 — recording half of their wins during the entire season over that window. During this period, his 652 rushing yards led all running backs, with the gap between him and the second player (Jonathan Taylor) being the equivalent to the gap between Taylor and the 10th running back. In addition, Dowdle’s 85.0 PFF rushing grade also led the league during this period. Despite not being paid as a starter, Dowdle had a huge impact on the Panthers during a crucial time of the season

Early Thoughts: I think we're actually going to draft the super athletic TE for once in the 1st round (Panther fans from the late 2000s remember how often they used to mock TE's to us in the 1st round??). Why do I think we'll draft Kenyon Sadiq? Bryce Young. Canales & Tepper need Bryce and the offense to excel and teams usually get the super athletic TE in the 1st as a last ditch attempt to save their QB/Offense. See Matt Ryan/Kyle Pitts and Gardner Minshew/Brock Bowers (I'll even include Matt Stafford/TJ Hockenson). My personal wishes: I really like Peter Woods even though he didn't do the combine... but I feel like we will not draft him. Definitely want us to take a LB in the 2nd.

Ehlers puck handling and quicks are very underrated.

There are no b2b's in the playoffs, right? No real reason to start Freddie unless a series goes to 6 or 7 games and Bussi just needs a rest. Or, you go up 3-0 in a series and give Freddie a start.
-
That’s a much less occurrence these days, Svech has really cleaned up his penalties lately.
-
You get the distinct feeling that he is... at least until freddie puts us in a 0-2 hole to the Canadians or Bruins
-
He's gonna start Freddie in the playoffs, ain't he?

I would reluctantly take Downs at #19. -

Why trading up in 2026 is a bad idea.

I feel like that 2010 draft had Richardson all over it. He was fed up with Fox not playing younger players or ever looking for a QB. Was also shutting the team down for the lockout. -

I think we traded up for Armanti Edwards in the third round when he had a 7th round grade. Feel the Hurn. -

Scariest part of the Little trade was Hurney said if Burns hadn't been there, Little would have been the pick in the 1st. Thank you to Daniel Snyder for being a meddling idiot and taking Haskins at 15. -

2019 traded up for Greg Little 2022 traded up for Matt Coral 2023 traded up for Bryce Young and DJ Johnson 2024 traded up for Jonathan Brooks and XL 2025 traded up for Nick Scourton. 1 out of 7. Hopefully, Morgan is still humbled by his '24 draft and won't think about it. -
Just to go back to what you said before you think Willis is fighting for a backup job? When he took over for love the argument was he was already better than love. And his physical tools suggest that. Now primed to head into to free agency as the number 1 QB you think he's going back to the bench? With the cardinals, browns, Steelers and Jets all out of reach of a QB in this draft? I would bet money he starts for one of those franchises day 1. And he's gonna get probably around what Bryce is gonna make this season to do it.
