I'd say Renfrow would take his place in the locker room, moreso Coker on the field.
-
And yet he played and played well. I'm reasonably positive they're comfortable with his knee situation if they decided to extend him. I can understand if we signed him for 5-6 years, but it's a 2-year extension. We have plenty on this team to be legitimately worried about; Taylor Moton is not one of them.
-
It's a gamble no doubt but it had to be done regardless.
-
I am gonna push back on this "loaded" notion. There are some potentially nice pieces here but I don't think "loaded" is a word many in the NFL would use about us. Could it be? Maybe.
-
If you think we've actually been better than the Giants then more power to you.
-
The cap would have opened up next year regardless, and what impact players are you referring to this late in the game? Granted I am not well versed on who is a FA these days but I kindof gotta think its been reduced to dog poo at this point, but I could be wrong
-
How is it overblown? He had to have his workload very carefully managed all season last year while still missing some games. Not because of an acute injury, but because of chronic knee issues. These things just do not get better with age while still playing football and carrying 300+ pounds.
-
If the idea is for Renfrow to take Thielen's place... I'd feel more comfortable if I felt Renfrow can actually play an entire season of football. Again, what are we getting in return? Just saying if we got a fourth for Mingo...

Very nice! Congrats!

If the team is confident with the medicals, it makes a lot of sense. Lock down the most consistent member of the strongest unit for another two years, reduce the overall cap number which opens up to signing two impact players or rolling it over to next season, and get more flexibility in the upcoming drafts. Another two to three years of Hunt/TMo paving the way on the right side is gonna be lit if TMo's got the knee figured out.
-
Nice framing? You mean just telling the truth?
-
Not the worst move - we can theoretically draft his replacement next year and then after 2027, cut ties if his play falls off or if he can't stay healthy
-
Yes and not his new and likely larger actual cap figure.
-
I don't see any reason to think he doesn't have 2 more good years left. I think the knee issue has been overblown. My only question is why we didn't do this in February or March. We could have used the extra cap space to sign more help on defense.
-
Supposedly we have like $19 mil in cap already available. If we are having to "clear" cap space for a move......this does not sound good. This sounds like the prelude to a panic move.
-
That was also counting 4.8m for Moton from his previous restructure.
-
We traded him in 2022, he was under contract(in his case for 2 more years), like Moton, when we gave him his massive deal, you think either player was going to sit out?
-
Nice framing of the extension by you. I wonder why your friend didn’t respond positively.
-
The only reason I'd be open to this is because I feel like Hunter Renfrow can play the same role that Thielen has the last couple years. But I certainly wouldn't ship him off for a late round pick or anything. He's far more valuable to us than that.

GSH is so terribly underrated. He was poetic rap before there was such a thing. He was soulful hip-hop before there was such a thing. Liv Warfield. Was part of Prince's New Power Generation. Her latest vinyl "The Edge" definitely has that Prince vibe, but her lyrics throughout the album are phenomenal.

We should do it--we are loaded at WR. Keeping him on the roster means we cannot add a young guy--let Renfrow be the old veteran-and add some draft capital. We are not winning a super bowl this year, but we are another draft (like this one) away from becoming relevant--when AT would be gone. I worry about Bryce's development too, but maybe have AT gone will HELP his development. XL, TMac, Coker, Renfrow, Horn, Moore, AND Brycen Tremaine is probably better WR depth than we have ever had at the position.
-
We haven't had New Orleans level cap issues but we also are projected(prior to this deal) to have just $17.7 mil in cap space next season. That's pretty bad when you consider what we are getting in return.
-
You have to pay for a player of that caliber
-
One of my non-Panthers serious football fan friends succinctly summed it up...
-
That’s textbook every team in the NFL. Why else would any team reduce the current year’s cap other than to sign or trade for a player?
