The D has no choice but be better. If they are close to this past year, after 6 games fired evero. I knew once Sean Payton let him go, that should have been enough on his worth. I thought he was one of the youngest rising stars in the league and he should have been the HC if Dave was the other option.....Then this past year happened.... I watched each week with NO improvments and nothing on smart game plans...... Just the worst defense in the Panthers history. I do not care if DBrown was a monster and DMVP of this group, make adjustments and figure it out. The best DCs always find ways, evero just put it on cruise and got nothing. He's also had a say in drafts and nearly all the FAs, thus far some school of the blind DC would have the same results. Just a big year and Im completely out of excuses. Plus I have a short hook if they are looking bad, in fact 4 games Im ready.

Just so we're on the same page. Derek Anderson in his very last season in the league when he was washed beyond comprehension he was 35 years old. That was 2018. Andy Dalton will be 37 in October.
-
Im of the opinion that if your team is constantly either 2 or 5 wins at seasons ends.....I 100% retire from smack/trash talking other fans... I mean the best insult is "Your team almost lost to shitty Panthers!!!" LolZ!!! I mean..... I just stay silent. Side note I think you are waaaaaay too hard on Dalton in backup terms. He's lost some MPH, but he can still spin it for a few games. The league wide back group looks awful, glad him and BY are bros. He's a better Derek Anderson who was a great backup the first couple years here, he made a pro-bowl as a brown QB....that's almost HOF-worthily.....(jk)

The LB and DB rooms have a lot of question marks going into this season... I won't be surprised if the defense is better but not completely turned around. At the same time, this has been almost a total rebuild between this season and last... a group or two had to be the weak spots while other areas get shored up first.

I agree with the OL-RB crew. Just to toss this into the fire- Panthers are the only team to invest 8, 32, and 39 draft capital into the WR spot. No other team has used top picks like panthers only at WR.

Scourton isn't signed (& apparently it's a thing)
Basbear replied to TD alt's topic in Carolina Panthers
New Orleans Saints and QB Tyler Shough reached agreement today on a fully-guaranteed $10.795 contract, per @ErikBurkhardt of @RocNationSports . At pick No. 40, Shough is the last player selected in the 2025 draft to secure a fully-guaranteed deal. The contract also includes annual Roster Bonus structure whereby Shough receives the majority of his compensation each year during the first week of training camp. Tyler was not the linchpin about others signing, but he was the last player to get a fully guarantee at 40th overall. Still 36(?) browns RB remains unsigned, he got arrested and it looks bad..... Plus this didn't last into the TC, I thought it could easily. Like 50/50 it would. Glad Nic is signed, details are not made public, sportac maybe right, its still sorta early- https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/97850/nic-scourton -
Yeah, at no point did I say he can only throw short and talk in weird absolutes. we clearly sort of found ourselves in a weird spot IMO. Never all in on a vision that made sense. Half way moved on from Bryce after year one. Living in a random parts word and wanting it to work together. Not my ideal why to go about it. It’s trying to manifest Bryce into fitting a non ideal scenario/team for him.

Glad we extended Tremble already

And if it's in fact true, then he might as well sign. Either that or give up the dream of playing in the NFL. That should be a no-brainer.
-
Yeah, the first thing I thought about is why argue about "conduct detrimental to the team?" Just don't do anything stupid and you should be OK. Top and even mid tier professional athletes get a lot more leeway than regular Joes out here bustin' the pavement, and we know that if we end up on the news for negativity that we've done our there in society, our ass is gonna get canned.

I mean 1-6 the WR group is pretty good. All 6 won’t see the field at the same time. I’d say 3 WR sets or less a majority of the time if our commitment to the run game is to be believed. With that said, the o line is our strength. Behind that we have a RB room with 2 1000 yard rushers. Personally I think both groups are “better” at this time. And if we’re only going 2-3 players deep the Corners have an argument for being a better unit than the WRs as we currently sit. tl;dr Another lazy article by the world wide leader in sports…

Ah, I see. You're saying he's just a short game guy... but wouldn't the team still have needed a deep threat to keep those safeties from creeping down like they were when Reich/Brown had him dinking and dunking? Who from this list is preventing that from happening last season? David Moore? Then what about this season? Darius Slayton? I'm not saying that weren't better moves to have been made, but I don't think that AT is the half-in, half-out mindset as suggested. He came in under Reich, was a dependable veteran for a rookie HC that has a background with WRs, and is now set to make $2M less than the aforementioned Darius Slayton. What I am saying I guess is that when stepping back and looking at all of the available data points, the Adam Thielen signing was one of the few moves that this team has made that has worked out. Going to be fun seeing if Jimmy Horn Jr can contribute right away as that quick-twitch slot guy the team has been looking for. I don't see Thielen playing the entire season, so the sooner Jimmy picks things up the better.

So... what they're saying is that we went from having maybe the worst WR room in the league last year to it being the biggest strength of the roster this year... Just because we drafted Tetairoa McMillan GOAT status already, LFG!!!!!!!!

Joe Person @josephperson · 9m Sam Martin has a hamstring injury but is not expected to miss much time, per a league source. Joe Person @josephperson · 19m Panthers place TE Tommy Tremble and WR Dan Chisena on the PuP list; put punter Sam Martin on the active/non-football injury list. Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 8s Worth noting, they can probably go a few days without punting but there’s a kicking competition so someone will need to fill in as a holder.

Just to be completely clear. From a general average team standpoint I would concur in most circumstances. The issue is that isn’t us. If we were a vaguely competitive team that at least made the playoffs from time to time it would be one thing. We're just hoping to not be a doormat right now. So when we make no attempt to even kick the tires with anyone else and bring back Dalton on a sweetheart deal whom the last image of that we have in our heads is he and the offense getting absolutely torn to pieces by the Commanders and the very lowly Bears. Any positivity I can work up is going to be really miniscule at best. At the end of the day the best cure for being bad is the passage of time. It's not fresh in anyone's mind anymore. It's the offseason. But no matter how offended some people might be by these inconvenient truths now in just a few short months the daggers will be back out sooner or later. Anyone who's read a gameday thread here knows this.

Interesting...... In an article on ESPN today about this situation, there was a piece in there that I hadn't heard before and now completely changes my view on this situation. Previously I had blamed the Bengals for trying to include a new clause into the contract for Stewart that hadn't been done before. But it turns out (assuming this is legitimate and not the team just lying) while it's true that it would be the first time the Bengals insisted on this language in the contract, they are the ONLY team who didn't previously have it in there, that all the other teams have now included it and they're finally jumping on that ship themselves. If that's really true, then it's on Stewart and his agent at this point. I get not wanting to sign a contract that the team had never done before, but when all 31 of the other teams have been including it in their 1st round contracts and the Bengals are just the last to finally do it themselves, I don't think it's something to throw this kind of fit over from the player/agent side of it. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45788560/bengals-prez-brown-foolishness-shemar-stewart-unsigned

I find it funny kon gets such a hard time in summer league. He wasn't drafted to be the lead guy like some after him. He's a jack of all trades part that's gonna fill cracks at a high level. What I don't get is how this team expects to defend anyone. If healthy, there are so many scoring options and playmakers. But thin defending the rim. I'm a wizards fan, and the wizard fan base, imo, is crazy to think the hornets are worse off than the wizards. The wiz have no proven guys and Tre Johnson might be a gem, the rest are meh or blah.

It looks functional. Crazy.

Guys that will either make or break our Young Quarterback!!
CRA replied to Doc LRB's topic in Carolina Panthers
100% agree. LB and then to a much lesser extent but still a thing was DL. We at least know we largely where going to have the defensive front 7 intact year to year pending injury didn't derail it. I can handle moving away from being RB central but the D is a bit tough to see -
We have a bunch of injury prone players which concerns me and I’m not so sure about Lee or our team D with this group, but gotta love that there does appear to be a real culture shift with new ownership and front office. Still need to be patient but I think this team might finally be on the right track after decades of being trash with our absolute ceiling being a round 1 playoff loss, or more recently, play-in blow out loss. The Hornets being good for once would be fuging awesome for the city, and for the league.

they drafted Tmac this year. Bryce's natural play style is going to trend to a Ladd type not the vertical game. So why wouldn't your build your team to your QBs strength fixate on being strong there. We drafted Tmac this year. So you got Ladd in the slot. Now you got that AT money to spent on the outside across from Tmac. That's my whole, random parts thing. I feel Bryce Young fits 1 thing, Dave's always fit a different game (and that basically plays out). So my naturally stance despite not being a huge Bryce guy is either go all in on him (which they never did).....or go all in on Dave (which isn't Bryce's style). I'm fine either way. It's the in-between I don't like.
