Yep, it just doesn't make much sense given our current situation. The smart move would've been to just wait and see how his knees hold up this season first.
-
I don't think trading 6-7 starters a few days before Game 1 would be anything but a sure sign of tanking. I get the thought process but almost none of those statting guys has a replacement on the roster nor really any hope of finding one. The rest of them aren't worth fug all in a trade.

I can get down with all of that except Moton. If Bryce is out future at QB, we have to invest in his protection. I’m sure Burrow would agree.

Post- Training Camp 53-Man Roster Projection
carpanfan96 replied to Seltzer's topic in Carolina Panthers
I still firmly believe that Frank and most of the office and coaching staff didn't want him and built an offense for/around Stroud or a vet journeyman. -
Good thing you’re here and not in our front office.
-
I agree. I see all the talk of Renfrow but it has been Coker that has earned the PT all offseason long.

Moton extension. 2 more years, $44M
Leeroy Jenkins Ph.D. replied to jb2288's topic in Carolina Panthers
I love this for Moton and it shows that we are willing to pay our own, and builds continuity on the line, so I definitely understand the move. HOWEVER, If I was in roster management, and I knew we were likely not going to be Superbowl competitive this year, which, lets be honest, we aren't. I am personally putting any player over the age of 28 on the trade block. These players need to be traded to a contender, or their replacement found. JJ Jansen – 39 Andy Dalton – 37 Adam Thielen – 35 Sam Martin – 35 Taylor Moton – 31 Nick Scott – 30 A’Shawn Robinson – 30 Austin Corbett – 29 Yosh Nijman – 29 Shy Tuttle – 29 -
-
Then he’ll he paid appropriately next season and maybe in 2027 we’ll have a bargain, IF CBA continues skyward and his play level maintains.
-
Yeah, I am pretty concerned we might attempt something really stupid. The last thing we need, bad roster or not, is another future nuking move.
-
Fair for sure. Though I'm pretty sure I would make it all worse We could also have a team that no one wants to play for, with no hope of ever getting better. I don't think we're in 2000-2010 Browns/Lions territory yet. Now we are the worst team for the 2020s. We're half way through this decade. Will the Panthers turn it around? Maybe. Will they continue to suck because Tepper is poison to winning? Maybe? Back to Moton, he's been a very good and consistent RT for a LONG time. Yes, he's had a few injuries, but I don't think that the Panthers wanted to leave a bunch of uncertainty at the position. Regardless our opinion on the FO staff, they see Moton daily. They have a MUCH better picture of his knees and how much longer he can play at a high level than we can from where we are.
-
Nah, because if they weren't planning on keeping Horn, he likely wouldn't have played at all, hoping they could then sneak him through to the PS
-
Panthers possibly trading Thielen?
PleaseCutStewart replied to philit99's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think Horn gets much playing time at all unless injuries happen. I think Coker gets first crack at slot WR with Tet and XL starting out wide. -
He's definitely not top 10 for sure. I think he lacks the most in his pass protection game. I would think he would excel more on the right side, where he could lean more into being a road grader run blocker. But yes you could possibly let Moton walk... he stays an all-star RT for 3 more years... Icky never takes the next step and can't play RT and now we need two OTs.
-
I think that means he's a lock to make the team but they know he'll be 5th or worse on the depth chart, so they wanted to get him as many snaps as possible before he ends up getting minimal snaps in the regular season.
-
Yeah, I honestly don't see Horn making the roster unless moving AT frees up a spot for him.
-
He's 6th in APY and first in GPY.
-
Who's to say he wouldn't love it? He's from Minnesota. His wife is from Minnesota. He his entire college and pro career in Minnesota until he signed here.
-
We are going to doing something stupid like trading next years 1st for Hendrickson and then drop 150 million on him.
-
I think the place they wrs and Bryce trained at was in Minnesota. If I recall, Adam owns that complex there. He has many ties still in Minnesota outside of the NFL.
-
That’s a reasonable argument. I won’t put that level of play out of reach for Icky yet, but he’s certainly far from being considered a top 10 LT at this point in his career. Hopefully he’ll get there. Moton is in the top 5-10 range for RTs. We’ll most likely be paying him like he’s top 10-15 once that contract hits next year. Not bad imo.
-
Horn was out on the field as they ran the clock out last night. That tells you about Horn Jr. if they trade AT….its because Coker and Renfrow can do what AT does
-
I don’t want a splash move. we are supposed to be a developmentally minded staff with a focus on a slow rebuild, supposedly doing it the right way.
-
Damn, there are a lotta pearl clutchers in here. Virtually every player in the NFL that's been in the league more than a minute deals with chronic conditions they manage. This is a fuging contact sport.
-
His wife is from that area and loves it up there, it's why they always go back and spend most of the summer in Minneapolis.
