I don’t believe in Young for the NFL, he literally does not measure up. I love the Stroud passing skills, and think he is prototypical enough with his measurables. I do see valu in that new test and if he is significantly behind the curve there, I am wary. Being as I have one “no way in hell do I take a 5’10” 185 with suspect arm strength. Umber one, let alone trade all that to do it. Odds are now so long against the top two, for me, they are now looking like almost as big a gamble as AR, who has a much higher ceiling if you do hit on him. So at this point in the exercise, I am going with the potential over what they are today. Only way to dig out of the hole they dug with the trade up, is to hit a home run. I was against this but if Stroud has legit concerns, Richardson’s potential looks like the better gamble to me, over having to live with a guy I am convinced will not thrive as a pro.

They had to have covered this scenario in the job interviews.

If you have to pay them 45-60 million dollars, none. That's a definite no go. I'd give what we gave up for a pig in a poke for a few guys. The same ones being named. I don't think you can put Mahomes in it though. They would laugh.

I've felt better about him recently, than ever. But that is a fleeting sentiment and I don't really trust him here. All he has to do is display some body language and the employees will get which way the wind blows. And have to pick their battles.

Bunch of media drama hawks driving the narrative. My main problems with the guy would be football related. Like why is this guy the GM? Who is really making roster decisions? Draft decisions?

Well if Stroud blew the tests, that is a problem. Possibly a worse problem than a Jr High body matched with a great mind. It's a shame because that guy (Stroud) can pass the football at a very high level. Since we are here, I am now hoping for AR. It is crazy to be where we are, cost wise, and be reduced to this as the path forward. That trade up is sort of like paying retail for a hand held vacuum a month before you could buy an upright for less on black friday.

That, to me, is a fairly sorry group in that graphic. Couple exceptions. Like, literally 2. Maybe 2 and a half.

I bet they aren’t all perfect pieces of clay when they try and shape them, you don’t advertise it though. There are plenty of reasons to speak well of them, def including recruiting. So would a coach front like that and protect a player, publicly? Yeah I think so. Would he tell scouts the story if it were different? I think they would know he was BS real fast if he didn’t. Could that get out? It could. There are some layers here. I don’t know what the deal is, just considering possibilities.

Eric4280, I guess the point would be Houston could trade and assure themselves of Young. They are not doing that so far, indicating they don’t value him higher than the #2 pick. If that. On the face of it. I definitely put stock in the cerebral aspect of the position and the published results seem to show that test is worthwhile and a fairly good indicator of what direction they will head in the pros. If Stroud is marginally behind Young (if given that Young scored in a place that places him in elite) that is not a huge concern but yes if he scored down in the 60s then I would drop my evaluation, which is really only that he is clearly the more NFL ready of the two, physically and is good enough at the mental. Feel like he can grow better with experience also. I have enough doubt about Stroud as it is that I would not have given DJ and all those picks for either of them. And I admit that I before I looked at Young he was off my list for a reason to trade up to 1 solely because of his size. But when it happened I did see some things that made me decide not to keep him in consideration. If we had stayed at 9 and either fell I get it. I could get it if we just happened to earn the 1 and didn’t have to pay triple for it too. Maybe I wouldn’t go that far. There is a lot of risk with both players. Anyhow I don’t know how to translate this test’s numbers to time, shortest time wins the prize. So say 90 is x amount of time, 60 seems like it is significantly slower. If it were 95 to 85 what does that really mean? Detailed answers might include more complex factors than I can’t assess, but for instance there may be tricks of the coaching trade to compensate for 85 as far as setting up your playbook and stuff like that. Everybody that plays a good brand of NFL QB is probably not 97th percentile and up. So how slow is too slow? Anyhow, if that is Stroud’s negative I would consider it important, if substantial. But to me that would knock both of them out. Stroud is a beautiful passer and has good size but I’d want to put the proper value on the player as Gettleman used to say.

Staff answers to owner. Owner shows strong preference, is your boss, you are new here…. Otherwise I would trust them too, and be confident they don’t misevaluate the talent they are choosing from. Because some of this is just nuts. Number 1 overall. Not at 16, 25, or even 9.

Watch him at his pro day. Watch his deeper passes, for how he gets velocity on those throws. He does a little skip or hop or something that adds a split second extra to the whole drop back and throw thing. And that little move takes a little bit of real estate with it. It is why I never took him seriously as far as being the pick, I thought coaches would see it and take notice. That, his size and height, and all the shotgun with little under center work, I just can’t go for it. At that draft position.

You can call Simms whatever, I remember he does have a background as a pro QB. I bet most old school pro QBs will have some doubts as far as that goes. But in today's world, how does anyone know those guys don't get together and say okay you argue for this guy I will argue for the other guy? Are you really still giving these people who work in Show Business cred? Like, they are trustworthy to always say what they think? You will be constantly let down. You can't be on TV or whatever, any platform that operates on an entertainment value system, unless you play the game. It is lying season for those people, 52 weeks per. They are truly the sellouts of our society. So just look at football, not their ratings, clicks, etc. As far as who to draft... If you really believe the NFL is no more difficult than the SEC, Bryce is your man.

This is why we should not have moved up. Neither guy is going to provide the value you expect at the top of the heap. I mean, if they are having issues with Stroud? Then they moved up to take a point guard/qb without the arm strength, without experience under center, that has to go way back in that gun to throw 30 yards downfield, he needs a running start to get something on it. You’re gonna see. I bet the the defense in the NFC S are licking their chops.

I don’t care what Bryce Young people think, and what these media types claim they know. I just won’t believe that football professionals would make Bryce Young at 5’10 185lbs the overall number one unless it happens. Then I will believe. I won’t understand but will believe. And will be massively disappointed in Reich and Fitterer if that happens.

Well you have a very undersized college player and you have Stroud, who is more prototypical, and you have a team that had a choice kept Fields and the horrible record over either of those guys. And someone will fall. There are gonna be a couple of decent QBs come out of this draft but I am not sure it is either of these top two. That’s what we are dealt, we have to play it. Stroud if I am forced. Noticeable better arm and accuracy and is not 5’10” 185.

The ones who test positive call him Bryce, as if he is already their buddy. Not Young. Not Bryce Young. Bryce.

He said stuff about Stroud, that could be good too but people don’t listen to that. It remains to be seen if one or both or neither will succeed. The stuff about Stroud having his platform mechanically integrated with his eyes was interesting. Whether that is an efficiency advantage depends on his processing being correct. Which I don’t believe Smitty dogged. I think he said Young was excellent but that didn’t mean Stroud was bad. Paraphrasing from memory. Take the snap, take a couple of seconds to assess, and the ball comes out quickly and accurately. With touch when required. That sounds a lot better than Bryce Young to me. So, it becomes can he really do that? That is what you will bet. Yes or no. Young should be a fallback, honestly. [comparing them as an i5 chip (Stroud) vs an M2 chip is a definite exaggeration for my money]

oops left the quote out sorry Yeah good points. And I am not much past reasoning it will take time to get it right team wide (always does), plus you have to get the roster adjusted. I know they have brought in some guys they hope work out. The D probably will be pretty loose early on. Haven’t seen who we play the first few games.

Maybe you are right. They might also be the teams allowing impatient teams to err at the top, and swoop in and get their SB winner later and cheaper. Maybe that is the paradigm.

Big whatever on the NFL #1. Until someone actually does and changes the paradigm, you just do not take a player that size for that position at 1.1. If this needs to be explained to you I seriously hope you are not named Frank Reich, Scott Fitterer or David Tepper. I would buy that the NFL is going flag football just without the flags, and if Tepper has assessed things that way, and that is why they may be serious… I yield my opposition.

I am having a little bit of a hard time with people (outside pundits) talking about us in terms of having a good defense. We have no real idea what we will get, I don't expect it to be good this year, honestly. Traditionally, this sort of reshuffle takes you a step back before there will be a step forward.

For you folks saying how Young played in the SEC against NFL talent, that won’t listen to a fan that tries to explain where it is not exactly how you want people to think it is.

All they could think about was their raging “need” for a QB. Nothing else mattered. All costs, and all that.

I don’t know enough to foresee whether Young will be more injured from a hit than Stroud, but for sure a penalty flag is like cops making an arrest after an assault has taken place. The victim is still the victim. If a player was injured, he’s still injured. There’s enough incidental/accidental stuff in any given NFL play to do a body part in, ruthlessly too. In an instant you are just done. And sometimes friendly fire does it. Also I am more inclined to wonder about Young’s arm than most people, it appears. I am not sold on him having an above average NFL arm, and what he is doing to compensate costs time and space that he may not have to spare. Not gonna go deep on it, I think others that know more than I do see it too.
