We have our Franchise LT with Ickey
stratocatter replied to Chris Smitty's topic in Carolina Panthers
There was something somewhere about Ekwonu’s shoulder prior to the draft but I haven’t heard a thing since. -
Commanders is a shitty name. Sorry. Redskins was so much better. But okay you can’t have Redskins for your name anymore so pick anything you want. Commanders. Really? You want to be cool? This took literally 30 seconds of thinking about Washington DC: The Secret Agents. The Agents. The Bugs. Okay maybe not the bugs. I like the Secret Agents. But there must be a lot of better possibilities.

Rams Offering Two (Future) Firsts for Burns
stratocatter replied to OnlyPantherFaninMaine's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am not a trader by nature but we should have taken that deal. -
Shenault is an asset they haven’t used a lot. There were reasons, but he could factor.
-
Well maybe because he was Rhule and generally unless they have real good reason the next staff isn’t invested in him. Corral didn’t show anything on film that I would consider real valuable for them to witness. So far. I see him as unknown still.
-
We were down CMC and Hubbard, as far as why they rode him so much. It probably isn’t what they see as ideal but what else were they going to do?
-
First, I looked at who has played QB for us and their arm talent. Mostly I have thought about PJ vs Cam passing ability and we all know Cam had the heater. He could throw the ball low and far. Cannon. Some of his throws were about as good as it can be done. I saw throws the last two weeks that I would put up there with a lot of Cams better throws. I think, as if I would know what an NFL WR knows, but I think PJ throws a more catchable ball. And I know people will be pissed and don’t really get why, but I think he puts the ball in a better place to be caught. To protect the receiver and to maximize yards after catch. Sue me. I could be having selective memory but I think there is something to explore with Walker. I won’t say it anymore because this is like the third or fourth time, but there are a lot of completions that hit these receivers in stride. To me that is the whole game of aerial offense. That’s the trick. It’s just high level. I don’t know how deep that runs in him but I can’t discount Walker right now after seeing those throws.

I haven’t even looked to see how the other options are doing. Maybe I should but I love watching him run block. He doesn’t disengage until the whistle the times I watched him. -
Yeah and they couldn’t see the protection they were giving. A lot of time to throw on some of those plays. That will get some deeper routes called and open up the field.
-
That seems true but there is different ownership up there. Maybe it doesn’t work as well here as it did there for them. I think a lot of people here saw McD as a really good football guy that could be a HC, and wished things had worked out differently. If only he’d stubbed his toe in Buffalo.
-
Seems it is always a cyclic evolution. This small trend counters the long tall corners brought in to counter the big WR guys. Someone will counter that and so on…. Somehow you have to get on the right side of those trends. A balancing act.

I was looking at the game on replay and when that Byrd play happened I ran it back a couple of times to make sure I saw what I thought I saw. Lack of effort. I know the perspective of TV can be misleading but inside the 25 yl to the 18, every time I look at it I see lack of effort. Waiting on the other guy to make the play. If in fact that is what it was, who is a fan of that and why is criticizing it a sin?
-
We will get to see him.
-
Yeah I was about ready to mention that. I don’t think Sam really got a fair shot this year due to Mayfield and he does have tools. And he would have a much better situation offensively than what he had last year. The thing is I am seeing a lot of good stuff from PJ and that kind of is what it is. It is somewhat likely that PJ gets dinged or figured out or something and sits but for now I would not change QBs. I got one thing, PJ hits the receiver in stride a good amount of the time. That is where it’s at.
-
It was a great throw, period. In a dome, so we know it was honest. Not wind aided. The most impressive about PJ for me, in the passing game, is his accuracy. If he can keep hitting guys in stride where they can do work, I want him to play QB for my team. He is doing it in game conditions. Real NFL game reps. Think about what he could do with more experience. Couple three things… It was the first game most of these players have been in, in the NFL, that meant something. We could have been sitting in first place, both teams knew it, it was a great stepping stone type game for a lot of players. The OL is getting to the point where they can give a guy a chance back there. I had a lot of criticisms of Cam with his passing but a I do think of him and this OL, and just use your imagination…. It would have been pretty great.

I will say that Marshall looks like a player, going by the simple eye test. I don’t like watching Shi Smith with the same eyes. Ditto for Anderson but he isn’t relevant thank goodness. I guess. Diva attitude and contract, barely above ‘at home sitting on the couch’ level production. What’s to miss? As I write, I think maybe with a qb who could get him the ball he’d have been better but that is true of all WRs . Most WRs, rather. and btw, I don’t know what everyone else sees but I am seeing this dumb CMC gif that annoyed me when he was on the team. It is not less annoying today. I’d rather see a picture of Paul Pelosi with a hammer.

Are We Really Not Going To Talk About This?!
stratocatter replied to Castavar's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would have benched CJ for his effort, lack of it I mean, on the Byrd TD. I watched it and thinking I was mistaken, watched it again. He was trotting and trailing, as the guy matriculated into the end zone. -
Maybe you are right, but I think the NFL is great when it is old school. They want flag football now
-
That would have been a better plan. Build the rest of the team while you find your future QB
-
Being a gamer is a thing. It is real. Some guys shine in practice and the game, some shine in practice and wilt when the red light comes on. And some suck in practice but when stuff is for real they just rise to it. I don’t know which one PJ is but we should find out. He has the arm. There is no doubt in my mind that he can make the throws. It will come down to his decision making.
-
I feel like he is doing it right. They are men and he treats them like men. At the same time took no bull from Anderson. Woke up to find himself traded probably. That is a strong message on a couple of levels. At the same time, he stands in the firing line for the players who screwed up. I believe he understands how to lead and motivate on a high level. And I bet he gets interviews out of this and not just to satisfy the Rooney rule or because of his lawsuit. I have seen enough to know what I am looking at, and don’t think Wilkes is going to change over the next few weeks into, fundamentally, something else. This is what he is, and we are seeing it right now.

I thought the Falcons did not deserve to win the game based on their performance. But then we didn’t either. I saw improvements in the offense which we all sort of expected with the development of the OL. I liked a lot of what Walker did today. He was hitting guys in stride. That cannot or should not be underestimated. I have been a fan of his like most people because of his work. They used to give him scraps, like every year, and he turned them into a unit. They had guys coming off the street one season if I remember right. They did that because they knew he could do what he did. That is that thing where you are too valuable for them to promote you. I did not particularly follow or research his season in Az but had the feeling he wasn’t given much of a chance. He probably told them something they didn’t want to hear when it was my way or the highway time but who knows. I probably like him because he is no bs and will tell you the truth. My impression. Which means he will not be afraid to tell Tepper what he thinks. Sometimes, people that everyone says yes to all the time are starving for someone who will tell them the truth.
-
As far as unfair, I don’t see it. He did fire Snow. And he did t Have to take the job. Though thinking about it for a second, if he turned it down what does that look like in his lawsuit? Still on the merits of the proposition in isolation, he had a choice and went for it. I look at it as a great opportunity for him and I bet he does too. He will not be judged on playoffs he will be judged on his leadership and football savvy. At least I would hope so. edit: and, he has a chance to show people that maybe Az made a mistake. How long before he would have, if ever, gotten another crack at HC in the NFL?

Let's be honest. DJ doesn't deserve this.
stratocatter replied to Snake's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am not sure I understand being against criticism of a player who put us in a bad spot over a penalty but I didn’t watch so I can’t really judge. I will say that kicker proved he couldn’t do his job under pressure from the 14 yard line, he probably would have missed the winning kick from anywhere.
