Let's quit living in the past and pay a player based on what we hope he turns out to be instead of what he's actually done on the field. Marty is that you?
-
There are other edge rushers available with the money we are going to pay Burns. It doesn’t have to be done strictly through the draft. Reddick provided what Burns did and signed for a lot less than Burns wants. I don’t care about an elite WR. The SB champions just won with a bunch of WR3s. Pass rush isn’t everything. The kind of money Burns is wanting is for an elite DE, which he is not at this point. He’s a liability in the run game. For 25-30m a year, I want more than 12 sacks a year and a guy that cant play the run. Unless BY is the unicorn of unicorns of unicorns, we aren’t making a serious playoff run this year.
-
It wasn’t hindsight. We were having this exact discussion when we turned down the trade. How many different ways to replace Burns production.
-
If you think Burns is the last piece you need to have a legitimate shot at hoisting a Lombardi then you do. Super Bowl trophy is worth more than 2 1sts and a 2nd. McVay has shown he doesn’t give a poo about draft picks and will do what it takes to win now. The Rams window is about to slam shut. 2 trophies would make fans feel a lot better about not having a 1st rounder the next 3 years. Id give up pur next 3 1sts to have a couple SB wins.

As much as I want to keep Burns, that Rams offer was far more than his market value. That offer is more along the lines of Watt, Bosa bros, Mack. Mack was traded by the Raiders for 2 1sts and some other picks and was a far more complete edge rusher at the time of the trade. Turning down that offer guaranteed we will be paying him a top 3 salary and when i think of elite edge in the NFL, there’s no way i can genuinely say he’s that caliber.

You know the Nebraska AD works on his resume every time this guy speaks.

It's hard to know what was Fitts and what was Rhule other than Fitts was drafting certain types of guys that fit the Rhule mold and scheme, whatever the hell that was. I'm not impressed with his panic moves the past 2 years, first with MC and this year with Johnson. We'll see what happens with his other picks, but right now, he's pretty much middle of the road, not great, not terrible, just meh.

2023 Huddle Fantasy Football League?
SmokinwithWilly replied to PantherFanInPhilly's topic in Carolina Panthers
My third draft this year from the 5 spot. Neither of the other 2 have gone anything like my mocks. -
I don't think we will be. We gave one of the richest contracts to RB this off-season for a guy that ran behind one of the best offensive lines in the league. We're stuck with Sanders at this point.

A fantasy football championship belt looks better than that. -

I asked someone not on the Huddle and they're in if we have no one else. -
Any contractors/builders out there?
SmokinwithWilly replied to OnlyPantherFaninMaine's topic in Huddle Lounge
Its the direction I'm pushing my granddaughter. If she'll let me teach her, I can have her making over 100k a year by the time she's 20. -
It was always a matter of contract cost and length. At the time we were talking a 1 year deal in the 18-20 per year range, plus he was saying he didn't want to play for a team with a rookie QB. That would have taken reps from our young guys with a 1 year rental that had said he didn't want to be here. If he was only here for the $$$, that could end up causing issues for our QB. A lot of potential issues were flying around him. If we had been able to work out a deal for a few years, things might have been different and we'd be in much better shape than we are now. I wanted Hopkins and thought he would have been great for BY as long as he genuinely wanted to be here. We wasted money on Chark. I don't know who seriously expected him to play half the season if even that much.
-
BY is an extremely rare specimen to play the position. He hasn't been through a single NFL season yet. Once it's full speed NFL season, we may not feel good about this pick. Or we may feel like we fleeced the rest of the NFL. At least we don't still have Mr. Meatball at the helm.

WRs block on run plays. Doesn't matter if it's Frank or any other person calling plays on any offense in the NFL. -
A Discussion on WRs: 2011 v.s. 2023
SmokinwithWilly replied to SaltAndPepper's topic in Carolina Panthers
Easily 2011. It's basically Smitty vs Thielen/Chark. The rest have potential but haven't really proved anything at this point. Chark had a pro bowl season but has been hamstrung by injuries. -
2023 Huddle Fantasy Football League?

Are we still planning on finding out draft positions 1 hour before the draft begins? Personally I prefer to know at least a little bit before the draft to do some type of preparation. -
Not what he’s saying. Would you rather have made the playoffs with Cam as a rookie and taken the Baker trajectory, or gotten to enjoy him as a franchise QB for nearly a decade? All he’s saying is we need BY to be the face of the franchise for the next 10 years more than a playoff run. If we get both, then we’ve hit the jackpot.
-
The more important thing between making the playoffs and BY being a franchise QB is obviously the latter. You can have both, and we want both, but i completely understand his sentiment. We need BY to be a franchise QB far more than we need to make the playoffs. No rookie QB has won the SB, and unless BY is the unicorn of unicorns, it’s not going to happen this year either. He’s being realistic about what matters most. It’s just the way he said it that comes off badly.

2023 Huddle Fantasy Football League?

All depends on if you know how to use FAAB or not. You can spend it all early on a breakout player or wait for a guy to show up late in the season that pushes you over the edge. FAAB requires skill and strategy. I love FAAB. -
What’s your overreaction hot take???
SmokinwithWilly replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Beer does not cool the fire from having to eat 3 habaneros because the Panthers offense couldn't score a touchdown. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. -
Sorry man but he got blown out by the team that went to the playoffs and got blown out. If we had gone, the score could have easily been 56-0 and we may have been praying for a mercy rule. The 22' NFCS was one of the worst divisions the NFL has ever seen. Winning it wasn't winning anything. Against any other division, we wouldn't have even sniffed the playoffs.
