I never said a team was looking at him as a starter or that Nicks is being looked at as a starter. And I also never compared him to Jennings. Nice reading comprehension.
-
Irrelevant. I can name a team interested in The Golden Calf of Bristol. Does that make him a better player at his position than Nicks is at his position? There are likely teams interested in Nicks, it's just not being reported.
-
You know better than to use an argument like that... Why is Jennings unemployed?
-
Actually there is a lot to suggest it and you would know that if you actually watched Nicks play. Stats don't even tell 1/10th of the story. Nicks wouldn't be a huge upgrade, but he would be an upgrade over Cotch. Jennings is significantly better than both so I'm glad we're targeting him and not Nicks at this point.

I hope we can land Jennings.

I didn't follow Jennings' years with the Vikings until I found out we were interested in him, and I initially thought he had struggled there as well. But then I did some research and went back and watched some of the tape, and he was easily as good as he was with the Pack and was even a borderline #1. He was their #1 the past two years and really the only threat on offense other than Peterson (who didn't play last year), drawing double coverage a lot. There was a breakdown posted somewhere of how he was literally open on like 90% of plays and Ponder just didn't see him (in 2013, if I find the link I'll post it). On paper he looks disappointing, and I don't think he was worth what the Vikings paid him, but he definitely still has a lot left and could even be a top WR2 in the league. The stats are more due to his QB's play than his own, I believe. He would compliment Benji perfectly. I still think we'll draft a WR because we know Ginn and possibly Jennings aren't longterm fixes, but signing Jennings would fill that need at WR2 and allow us to purely focus on BPA in the first couple of rounds so that we can either fill other holes or make our strengths stronger. The Jennings signing would be absolutely huge for us in my opinion.

Jennings IS a real, genuine threat. Would be our best WR2 since Moose by a longshot. We wouldn't have to cut Cotch, and judging by his interest, he won't be expensive. As for Ginn, he may not be super explosive like a Torrey Smith or DeSean Jackson, but he is a capable field stretcher and #3. With Jennings our WR group would be a strength,

Why would he have to make a decision today?

Rivera would like to see Cam signed long-term before 2015 season

When we win the Super Bowl next year with no WRs added in the draft or FA and Michael fuging Oher as our left tackle, you better not be around here celebrating as if you're a fan of the team. Be a fan of some sh*t team like the Browns if you wanna mope around all the time thinking everything sucks and that our franchise QB will walk in FA, when in reality those beliefs are just you making yourself think he'll want to walk because that's what you would do. You seem more focused on Cam's stats and wanting talent around him to make him look better, than on the success of the team as a whole. If Leonard Williams drops to 25 I bet you'd be upset with the pick because it's not a "weapon for Cam." Sh*t man you just don't get it. -
An answer to why he needs to be replaced. I don't think he's "all that and a bag of chips." I think he's better than the majority of #4 and #5 receivers in the league and is worth a roster spot. Look at how much money he's making and explain to me why he needs to be replaced.

That is so ridiculous it's not even worthy of a response. Enjoy being a cynic. -

I don't think it's any of those 3 things. I think Cam's side just wants Wilson/Luck to set the market and go from there, and they're being patient. I think Gettleman wants a deal done ASAP but is just going to have to wait for Cam's side. I see it happening this offseason if Wilson gets his this offseason, but otherwise it'll probably come next year. -
If I asked you why there is no possible way you could come back with a logical answer.
-
Yes he was. He was slow trash. Gettleman doesn't cut guys because of something they say, and Gettleman makes the cuts not Rivera.
-
And what happened to Avant? If Philly didn't hurt his shoulder in the middle of the season, he would've been starting over Avant long before Avant got cut. And he actually did start over Avant against the Steelers. Took him time to develop, but I honestly think he's already better than Cotch. With Jennings as #2, I'd much rather have Philly/Ginn in the slot than Cotch, and I don't want to keep him if we can save $1.5M.
-
Brown was our most consistent receiver last year.
-
I think we'll keep 6 as well, but I don't see us keeping Cotch if we sign Jennings. Just no point in keeping 2 of the exact same type receiver, and Jennings is wayyyyyy better than Cotch. I think it'd save us $1.5M if he was designated june 1 cut so it'd be worth it to cut him. I think we'll draft 2 WRs this year. One in the first 2 rounds and then someone like Hardy later on (probably someone with return ability as well since Ginn isn't the longterm answer there). So Benji, Jennings (Cotch if we don't sign Jennings), Ginn, Brown, rookie, rookie. Obviously depth chart could/would change during camp. Honestly don't see any of Lucas, Hill, Presley, Mike Brown or Bersin making the roster. Probably keep a few on the PS if we can. I feel Ginn, KB and Brown are all locks to make the roster.

Brown won't be replaced by Hill, lol.

I think it's more Cam's agent's reasoning than his own. If he lights it up this year at an elite level and we make a deep playoff or even Super Bowl run then his price could easily go from $20M/year to $25M/year. A lot depends on Wilson and Luck though, as Cam's side wants to let them (or Wilson atleast) set the market. I don't get that, but we'll see what happens. -

I think G-man would want to as well, and it's Cam's side that's wanting to wait it out. Which honestly makes the most sense for Cam. Why sign a new deal after an injury-riddled year, when you lost every WR who'd caught a pass from Cam before? He'll likely have a comeback year, do well, and further increase his value. I'd say I'm pretty confident both sides want Cam to stay in Carolina. -

Interesting. I think we should keep him for a little while longer to continue mentoring our young guys in the secondary, until maybe Josh takes that role himself. Do you have any idea of the chances that we extend Norman this offseason? I absolutely hate the idea of letting him walk after next season. -
No they just outsmarted the refs. Refs came out after the game saying the Patriots' plays were not allowed and the refs just didn't have time to catch it during the game. They're cheating scumbags.
