Exactly, it gives us flexibility to build a team with reasonable contracts, pay the guys that warrant nice contracts, and be a very good situation for a rookie QB to walk into come 2022 (if that needs to happen) We have zero guys in the next 2 years I see as a potential cap casualty and we're in a solid home grown situation.
-
And if Darnold doesn't work out (rooting otherwise) and we land a rookie QB, we've got some time before we need to pay the QB room and will have a really really nice window with our homebuilt team from 2022-2026

The Bucs with Godwin and Evans is a fair example. They have two guys with a roughly 33 mil/yr investment with 2 younger promising guys in Darden and T Johnson. Same with Beckham and Landry. Looking around the league right now, many teams have around 30-35 mil invested in either 2 top guys or 3 with 1 obvious mainstay. Teams that have under 30 mil invested in WRs have a lot of young unproven talents or landed some great draft picks in the last 3 years. Reasonable to think we carry two nice WR contracts in 2022 with 2 potential studs coming out of this draft and don't believe it is breaking the bank.

Panthers changing their strategy for building a winner
davos replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah I was going to make a thread on this but we have a doable line if one guy pans out this year..being Daley. Because we could roll out: Moton-Daley-Paradis-Miller-Christensen And hoenstly, I think that could be a pretty decent line, middle of the road. D Brown & Elflein backup the interior, Erving & Daley backup the tackle spots. My deal is Erving is a serviceable, sometimes injured borderline starter whereas Elflein is in prove it mode to show he's capable of being on a roster. His athleticism and football IQ keeps him on team's radars but it just isn't translating at all so far. They have potential in-place but we need to see it start to coalesce. And back to the thread, it's good to know we'll be a likeable destination from both a players and agent perspective right now in case Christensen has some learning curve or things get shaky with Darnold and/or the OL. -
Panthers changing their strategy for building a winner

Reassuring piece. Seems like Fit is well balanced when it comes to football savviness and the financials which is great. Only real headscratcher by him was Elflein IMO but it's not an obscene contract or anything. Hopeful for the continued building of the team around CMC, Burns, Brown, Moore, Horn & Co. -
I'm a fan of his. He could turn out pretty well and see a lot of things to like with his steady improvement each year.

I get the joke, but I seriously doubt we try a 3rd reclamation project in a row. If Sam doesn't pan out, we will be locked in on 2 routes: a proven vet or a rookie. If Sam lingers and we don't perform, that's how Rhule & Fit will find their way out of town; but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt given the market this year (and I'm one who wanted fields).

Even with a so-so line that could be bottom quarter of the league, if Darnold doesn't produce with these weapons in Brady's offense, we're moving on just as quickly as we did with Bridgewater and drafting Rattler or Howell.
-
One of the biggest factors (Brady's offense) won't be fully seen in preseason so I'm unsure how dicey things really are. I'm also not in panic mode but we definitely need to make an OL and K move after seeing week 1 and 2. I view us as a team improving year by year and on the uptick, so good interesting vibes with the franchise. Not at an end of an era, and not an all-in situation. If there is not significant progress with performance and O playcalling, then yes, there should be pressure on the staff but it's super early to tell anything. OL does concern me, but it's not dead in the water for 2020. We can get crafty and pull out an avg/slightly above avg line. Let's see if they do before the reg season.

Jermain Carter Highest PFF Panther LB Last Year
davos replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
When we grabbed him and that Smith UNC LBer that one year, I was rooting for one to succeed. Carter looked good and totally capable last season and I think is a great piece to have. Our defense stopped getting rolled over/could get teams off the field with Carter in the game (one of many reasons for when they improved). So, considering (a) how much we're in nickel and (b) Perryman's injury bugs, he's in a perfect spot behind Denzel and Shaq in the LB room. Don't mind that Luvu pickup either. -
Still surprised Tepper hasn't commissioned a redesign effort even if minimalist to reduce the dated-ness we have. The logo is less a problem, we need some fresh unis without the tri-stripe. I still have never really seen a fan concept that looks good after all these years but it'd be nice to do an upgrade akin to how the Bucs and Bengals have done recently. It is nice though--we've only really modified ours once (discounting color swaps) in our quarter century existence whereas the Jags have changed theirs like 4 times ha. Consistent but wouldn't mind a minimal modernized approach.

Agreed. That’s his floor on the team. Promising guy & Arnold wil be the TE1

What if Mac Jones and Trevor Lawrence switched hair styles?

Just how good are we expecting Jaycee Horn to be?
davos replied to RIPTreyLance's topic in Carolina Panthers
I expect him to frustrate the hell out of top receivers. He looks like he spars like some of the better ones do and uses his hands. Yes, it can create penalties, maybe early on, but the best learn how to really do it well and he looks like it's in his blood. He's going to knock guys off their routes early, may get burnt by speedsters from time to time but he should keep his side of the field quiet it he pans out. He's not going to be ballhawking but more so frustrate offenses to the point where they avoiding throwing his way. -
I’ve expressed excitement as recently as today. Both should be really nice fits in Brady’s scheme.

As with everyone, take their predictions with a grain of salt but he makes fair points, offers decent perspective and the videos are more than simply his track record. He's looking at talent, making his best judgement, & putting out decent points. He clearly puts a lot of time and effort into looking at guys the networks won't ever cover until Kiper and McShay have their time to shine, blabbering on-and-on days 2-3. And it's not like he's awful, his 2020 breakouts were Chase Claypool, Justin Jefferson, Antonio Gibson, JK Dobbins, Jonnu Smith. He has his eye for certain guys, clearly misses on others. He has some pretty funny misses. I don't think he's particularly good with ID'ing QBs but he does a nice job of highlighting the lesser known prospects and shining a light on overlooked talent. It's actually pretty awesome we have people like him doing this and making such fun content to watch. Just don't look to it like gospel as with any projection whether video or article.

Seth Roberts?

Yep. I can see us spreading what was Curtis' role into a few different ways. I expect Brady to adjust and also have learned from last year. Therefore, think splitting the Samuel role up from last year into a few different guys (Marshall, David, Shi), with a more aggressive redzone style that targets Marshall, could be nice. I felt that we over targeted Mike Davis and Bridgewater's decision making left missing yards and plenty of missed TDs. Let's say we pass for 4000 yards (half the league hit 4000)-- Take ~2000 off for Robbie+DJ, another 700 for CMC: Remaining could parse out like: 500-700 Terrace Marshall 250-400 Dave Moore 150-250 Dan Arnold 150-250 Shi Smith *And then factor in a tolerance/little extra depending how we use Tremble & Hubbard, they could have 150-200 ea. That's how I'd expect to look IF they project as they are now without injuries. TD wise, Marshall could tally a fair amount if Darnold throws for 24+

If Darnold can grasp the offense fairly quickly, I could see him succeeding. I will say, the offense may be tailored for beefy QB stats so come the end of the season, he may look good on paper even if it wasn't a totally A+ season. For me--regarding last season: What we failed at was identifying the right times to just take it to the endzone and get the 6 points. Both TB and Brady had issues. Darnold can be pretty effective at knowing when to step up and put the ball in the right guys' hands. I'm hoping he translates because he appears to be the style the staff looks at. They've mentioned a Stafford comp a handful of times, targeted Stafford and then eventually went after Sam. It's these tough, strong armed QBs that extend plays. They don't need to be super mobile, but have the good pocket awareness. Darnold's issues come from decision making and Delhomme'ing at times. Hope he can calm down in that regard and become a good decision maker. If the game slows down for him with the better offense, he has all the tools in the world here to wreck sh*t.
