Panthers interested in Falcons Keanu Neal
davos replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't like the fact that we're targeting these injury prone types. But in the same vein, I mean, you got to work with who's interested. I mean Matt Feiler LT/LG could've been absolutely ideal. He got a 3 year 21 mil deal from LAC. Was the Steelers LT, totally capable at LG. Fudge, Rick Wagner OT/G, LeRaven Clark OT/OG, are still sitting around unsigned. There's a crap ton of guards on the open market so I just find it interesting we targeted the two we did. Interested to hear what the team says enticed them so much about those two in particular (outside of being swing linemen, because there's plenty out there) Elsewhere, sucks we couldn't land Michael Davis at CB. He looked promising. So sounds like we're targeting some decent types. Maybe we're not as apperaling to play for as we thought being void of a QB. On the flipside, there's not many LBs signed at all yet and plenty of DBs left on the market. We'll see if we snag any that aren't made of glass haha. -
Panthers sign OT Cam Erving - 2 years, 10 million, 8 fully guaranteed

If that's your point then it's all a matter of perspective. They are what they are and we'll see how we use them, if even as starters (which isn't a given). If they suck, they suck but it ain't no thing but a chicken wing. I see us backfilling to leave the draft open to as many prospects as possible. Backfill via FA, build through the draft, maybe get 1-2 decent FA signings every year. -

Explain how fans on a message board can be "proactive" in respect to a team's FA decisions after they happen? You're reacting to things we can't control. The term proactive doesn't apply here. -

Fit and Rhule likely see otherwise so all you can do is trust their judgement at this point..or be reactive and complain. I much prefer the former. They seemed to have explicitly targeted these two for a reason. I think it's clear because they're swing lineman and it opens it up to draft wherever on the line BPA in the draft. -
We should be getting Biz & Zeller off the books and carve some more space for a ~20-25 mil/yr guy. The end of Batum’s dead cash as well which set us back $9 mil this season. John Collins and Jarrett Allen being strong possibilities. Star level wise, that’s going to be a forced trade type scenario if it happens.

Report: we missed out on CB Shaquill Griffin
davos replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Xavier Rhodes, Patrick Peterson, AJ Bouye, Kevin King, Artie Burns, there's some interesting options out there -
Given how amazing the last 2 draft classes have worked out and the overabundance of #3-5s in the league, we really shouldn't put too much stock into getting him back. Unless they really feel he's a critical part of the offense.

Report: we missed out on CB Shaquill Griffin

So with Davis & Griffin having our interest, I suspect a CB signing could be in the near future. We're sniffing for a starter. -
Patriots are cray right now. They threw way too much money at Agholor & Kendrick Bourne.

Wonder if we have a few DTs in the air and it’s why we cleared Kerr. Probs for a vet min-1.2/y contract at another spot to not overload DT

I mean, we don't even know if the top tackles would be entertaining conversations with us. UFAs have options and preferences. Charlotte isn't always at the top. At least we've got some guys that are still in their 20s. Elflein, could be terrible but you never know.

Elflein: 2020: 419 snaps, 1 penalty, 2 sacks allowed 2019: 919 snaps, 8 penalties, 6 sacks allowed (avg) 3 years, $6 mil guaranteed (2 mil/yr) Erving: 279 snaps, 1 sack allowed, 1 penalty in 2020. (banged up, didn't play the season) 589 snaps, 7 penalties, 5 sacks allowed in 2019 (meh) He's an average, decent signing. Nothing to be disappointed about at all, $8 mil guaranteed over 2 seasons is totally reasonable. - This is totally fine, these signings make complete sense in respect to what they've been saying. -

I mean, we're having focused signings on the OL. Right on par with the Miller signing last year. So we've got a good amount of guys signed on the line now. Also seeing us drafting 1 at minimum. -
Panthers sign OL Pat Elfein - 3 years, 13.5 million, 6 fully guaranteed

I mean any guy who started 49 of 50 games played of their career must have shown something to remain a starter. This seems like a solid deal but yup, I take it with caution seeing the Jets fans reactions haha. -
I stand corrected, mixed up my Falcons receivers ha. I'm just saying they both present the same amount of bland and come from the same program. I don't take it as a notch against Jones, but it hides what he does/doesn't have.

I don't see us carrying both Monk & Graham into next year. Whoever the team thinks that is, they should be looking to either get a big or a mid round 1st for him. Would love to somehow turn it into Bagley but we'd need to give up more and I don't want to blow this up. Vucevic is going to be too costly but Cliff does love Devonte. Maybe Graham+a Martin+future 1st for MBIII? Graham+Cody+1st for Vucevic?

Hot damn, they're a good damn band. Super underrated. Brave Captain is a rager.

It's interchangeable anyways hehe

That post you quoted is what gets me. I'm open to seeing the pros of Mac but he was never needed to carry the team; didn't have many "okay we need a TD here" type drives. It was a machine he was placed into and he's the exact same size as AJ McCarron. 6'3 215. And I don't see what more he really brings than AJ did when watching that tape. AJ was tossing it behind a great OL to Julio and look at his stats his last 2 college seasons. ~30 tds, single digit ints. And even when there's an exciting guy like Tua in that offense, you see what happens when they're brought outside. He was way more conservative of a QB than I thought he was and it's not like Miami has a bad offensive line. His risk is just as high as the raw, athletic guys and I'd much rather take the raw, athletic type. There are three huge traits that are hard to spot with college QBs: coachability, leadership & clutch gene. Those make or break these guys and it's really hard to spot in our positions. GMs/scouts/cpaches get a glimpse in interviews but that's the tricky thing to smell out of the position.

I think an alternate here is a trade up to 5 for Lance or Fields. Miami is tricky. I mean, they've already got so much draft capital, so why trade back again? In conjunction with this, I think NYJ has the edge for Watson because I don't see HOU settling for the 3rd pick. They want their man of choosing. So the question is, would Miami trade back again for the remaining of Smith/Chase/Sewell/Slater/Parsons? Are they happy with Tua? They're such a wildcard.

Trey Lance on nfl network as if 12pm est
davos replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Joe Brady & Rhule were front and center for that workout. Maybs this is the guy folks. Would not be made at all. Lance or Fields would be super promising. R1 Lance/Fields QB R2 Cosmi/Leatherwood/Mayfield OT the rest--Offensive focus w/maybe a CB or DT -
Michael Davis CB out of LAC - 6'2 quality starting outside corner. Young at 26 and a ton of career ahead Jonnu Smith TE - Popular name to throw around but I'd really like to land this guy. As long as Brady's offense is needing it. Jaquiski Tartt S SF - Loved him in his draft, he's a bit close to what Chinn is but I just want him on the team. Could be another multi-positional guy in our 3-3-5/hybrid d Kelvin Beachum LT - We're super limited but he'd be a guy for a 2 year contract
