  1. Improving the line in front of him should give us a better look at what the young man can really do. Couple that with a year of experience under his belt and I hope he can take off. Sure would be nice for the linebacking corps here to be league best once again. We did set the mark very, very high around here.
  2. And, honestly, there's only so much you can attempt to do in the draft. And every draft pick is a roll of the dice. But that's where grabbing a ton of UDFAs, and targeting the best, makes a big difference. Sure, their individual chances of getting a hit here is less, but that shotgun pattern might just hit something. Right now, we need bulk, partly to rebuild and partly to dilute the deep level of stank that has developed on this team in the last six years. If we're going to rebuild a culture built around culture, accountability and winning, then these UDFAs we bring in each season have to be the wash water that gets out that leftover dirt. Canales seems to be a smart, culture-first, build up the good ones kind of guy. I like that and I hope he can keep it going here. But he was working against a locker room that had been taught to lose and taught to distrust or ignore coaches. He's got his work cut out for him, still. He does seem to have it moving in the right direction and that's something I was pretty amazed with by the end of last season.
  3. I tend to look at all of these guys and wonder how committed they are to doing special teams? It's a big deal when you're fighting for roster spots. And we need massive refreshes to all phases of the special teams game. And the idea that four or five of these players could see rotational use outside of special teams would be a win. This team has accumulated quite a bit of dead wood over the last five years and its time to take an axe to some of it. These new fellows have a shot to benefit from that if they can really push. That being said, wow that receivers room is crowded right now. I'm not sure if I was a vet player with more than 2 years experience other than Adam Thielen if I'd be too sure of my future here. Tet is guaranteed a spot, Coker earned his for sure and they aren't done with XL developing yet. That's only two to three spots left for the entire room. It's going to be very competitive and better for Bryce's future, too. Safety and linebacker are the opportunity spots here this season. There's room for the right guy and we may see a starter eventually from one of these UDFAs, either by merit or injury.
  4. Sheesh, I can barely afford to watch the games on TV.
  5. Good luck to him. Really good guy, constantly found himself on bad teams. Wishing him the best. Now the Saints, not gonna lie, they've had this season coming for a while. That Voodoo Mamba they paid off to get that Super Bowl win and playoff appearances is coming back for her pay.
  6. That ain't the kinda "pro" I meant.
  7. She's here for the celebrity rub as much as anything, the sugar daddy money is a side benefit. But... he hasn't put a ring on her finger, so there's no long term money investment or worries for Bill. What does Bill get? Well... just look and you can tell. The guy has cut quite a few all-Pro players in his career. Just saying.
  8. I don't like to talk bad about Panthers players, present or former. So I'm going to just wish him well in his next endeavor.
  9. I'm okay with this. I hope the young guy can heal up and take the field again at full strength. In the meantime, some other folks are going to get their shot. It's all good.
  10. It's giving me hope, but I've been disappointed before. We all have. I'm going to cheer them on, doing my part. Can they, finally, do theirs?
  11. It's amazing what people will throw away their good names on.
  12. He's somewhere else now and I'm not going to spend my energy carrying anger about him. Just glad he's somewhere else.
  13. Yeah, and about all their stuff is like that. Great listening. And their videos... just fantastic. Not sure who directs them but they need to be at Sundance.
  14. Let's hope so. I love seeing undrafted players prove themselves to be stars in the making. If there was ever a team to do it on, the Panthers would be it.
  15. No, I had not, nor probably will I. And it's not about defending him, it's about it not really being any of my business. If he did have an affair, that's a terrible thing and something that he'll have to work out with his wife if she chooses to. Will it affect what I think of him? Yeah, probably, but it will also remind me, as has this thread that we've all got feet of clay. But, I also don't worship sports heroes, or even hold them up as much more than regular folks. And he sure isn't the only Panther to have an affair. Let's face it, there are some that have pretty much had a harem spread around the region before. Feet of clay. Feet of clay.
  16. Center is such an important position and one that is way too downplayed. And while this guy is strong, has he got the brains to do the job? A smart center with a high football IQ to boot can make a QB's life much, much easier.
  17. And still, is there any proof that he even had the affair? There's money, but there's also the damage to a multiple decades marriage with kids that could be caused simply because someone lied to their spouse that they'd had an affair with a celebrity. I mean, we seem very, very ready to convict him of doing it on no actual proof. And that ain't right, for him or for anyone.
  18. I may have missed something but did they actually prove that Smitty had an affair with her or not? I mean, like him or not, that actually matters. Just saying.
  19. I love this band, their music is just cinematic. Here's a new release that dropped today. Great lyrics.
  20. Look, I love Shaq and have cheered for him since Day 1. I'd love to see him back but those injuries were all pretty major and they started coming one after another. That's usually the sign for a professional athlete that it's time to turn the page. I think he's been an excellent linebacker throughout his career and when he took to the field beside Luke and TD, he was very much a man among equals there. I think that sadly, it is time for a new page for him, just like those other stalwarts. But please, ask him to come back and retire as a Panther. We'd be honored by him if he did.
  21. His Dad had the same problem a few times in his career. Luckily he and Jake clicked.
  22. Great write up. I think we're going to try to keep both of the guys we've gotten from the Vikings on that DE/OLB rotation. I don't think they ever had the chance to get up to speed together. And I really agree with you about Clowney. I really think this room really is going to depend on whether our long-term goal is to continue with 3-4 (I hope not) or go back to 4-3 full time. I'm hoping the safety situation and the LB situation don't end up biting us in the butt. I just don't see where we've gotten better there yet. I hope I'm wrong about this. O-line... just when things are jelling, you find out this might be the last season the group can expect to be together... that's just our history here. Again. Any thoughts on Moose's kid, Moose 3, coming as an undrafted FA WR?
  23. We need a solid returner, which he can do. And that is going to help. But you watch his tape, against good SEC competition and the guy just has it. Just wasn't always on a good team. And then, that bloodline... Loved watching his Dad play the game. If some of that skill and all of that football knowledge came down to him, then there will be a seat for him in the WR room this season. I'll be pulling for him during training camp to make the final roster.
