Eight Carolina Panthers Who Could Have a Break Out 2021 Season
kungfoodude replied to KatsAzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
We have been lacking a consistent end zone thread since Olsen left. Although, Teddy had a lot to do with that. -
Stanley Cup Playoffs: Round Two, Game 1

McGinnis is hot. Curious to see how that line works too. -
Yeah, similar to here. Pretty sure that is why we have JAGS at TE. We need them to fit a role, not carry the load.

Eight Carolina Panthers Who Could Have a Break Out 2021 Season

Slye seems the least likely of those to succeed. If we put Jackson in the slot and Horn can hold his own in his rookie year, our CB's could be special. Maybe Jackson has a 5+ INT season. -
TE usage in their passing game was still rather low. Especially compared to some of the NFL offenses with elite TE's in the NFL.

Christian McCaffrey Workload in 2021
kungfoodude replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
Oh he has been a coach long enough to know contracts don't mean much in terms of keeping your job. I agree that possibly the biggest problem is how easy it is to just give the ball to your best player and let him carry you. The problem being, we have SO MANY good to great offensive weapons. Why do that now? This isn't like the years where it was just Cam having to do it all. -

Apparently that is the "standard." -

You need to check the last decade+. That doesn't happen anymore. -

Yeah and coaches don't look long term, they need to win now. -
Christian McCaffrey Workload in 2021

So you want to increase his workload by 5-40% over his highest ever???! That is completely unreasonable. Do you want him to out of the league in two seasons?? -
How much of the Jets performance was really on Darnold?

Checked the Master List Google Doc? -
Is that Chuck?

I don't think you will see much contributed in the way of receiving from TE. Brady doesn't historically have a high TE usage rate in his offense. Nor are those guys elite pass catchers. It shouldn't matter if CMC stays healthy and our new WR signings can replace(or even exceed) Samuel's production.

I would wager Slater is much more likely to be an All-Pro than any of the lineman we signed or drafted. Now, will it be at LT? TBD. Will he be better than Horn? TBD. IMO the hope is that we upgraded the roster depth at OL and perhaps get one average starter out of it. The dream is that they were all home runs and we have 2-3 7+ year starters.

I never claimed not to be an asshole. Anyway, I did make an assumption that you were simply a USC fan that followed your player into the league based on your single player post history here. If I simply do a post history search you literally only discuss him. That doesn't strike me as much of a Jets fan or a Panthers fan. -
Christian McCaffrey Workload in 2021
kungfoodude replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
If it doesn't happen(splitting the load at least somewhat) I guess I just am not going to be able to philosophically understand why we as a franchise(with multiple head coaches and front offices) don't generally view that position the way the majority of the NFL does and at least have some sort of "by committee" approach. Maybe I should look at the long term consequences of those big RB contracts. Do teams tend to use those backs more on average(which you would expect) but also tend to do it when they aren't nearly as productive? IE, is it more of a contract based usage or a skill based usage? With the investment we have in him, I would like to see him be productive without much drop off over the course of that time here. I just can wrap my head around why you would want him to have 90+% of the workload/snaps if you are thinking about his future. -
If that happens, that was a very successful draft. TBD how it turns out. We'll know in 2-3 seasons.

I am not selling him short, moreso concerned about overusing CMC. -
Christian McCaffrey Workload in 2021
kungfoodude replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, my fear is that we continue running the wheels off him. I would like to see Hubbard get maybe 10-20% of the load(if he is capable) and maybe save some of this wear wnd tear on our most expensive offensive asset(and best offensive player). I know RB's have short shelf lives anyway but I would like to see him preserved at least until the end of his current contract. -

Well, the bulk of his work was before we knew Teddy was that bad. I am curious to see if our philosophy isn't that dissimilar from Turner in terms of running everything through him. -
Mike Davis is gone but in the fifth round we draft a talented RB in Chuba Hubbard. As we are all more than aware, Ron Rivera's offenses seemed to revolve around your best offensive player carrying the overwhelming bulk of the usage(see Newton, Cam for other examples). Interestingly, in just three games of action last year, CMC was on pace for his highest rushing usage rate yet at 19.7 rushes per game, even higher than his 17.9 rushes per game in 2019. However, his usage in the passing game dipped from his 2019 usage as he averaged just 6.3 targets per game from a high of 8.9 targets per game in 2019(7.1 TGTS/GM in 2017 and 7.8 TGTS/GM in 2018). So his overall usage rate was only 0.8 touches per game less in 2020 than 2019. After a season which was mired with injuries and drafting a talented young RB, will we finally see CMC get spelled more? Or will his usage rate continue to climb in 2021?

kungfoodude replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
They have actually had 11 winning seasons since 1995(last in 2015 at 10-6) and 7 playoff appearances. Sooooooo........that statement kind of applies to us too, right? -

Yeah. I actually was watching NFL football at that time. I didn't start when Sam Darnold got drafted. Carr rushed for considerably more yardage and and same amount of TD's in his first three years than Darnold. Had you watched the NFL at that time, you would have seen the historically bad protection he saw. It had nothing to do with him not being able to make plays on the run. That's ridiculous.
