Excellent post. Just as an fyi to further your point about Norman, the amazing pick was actually against Luke McCown who was backing up Brees and started that week. It was yet another reason the 2015 team was discounted in the early part of the season as the worst X-0 team of all time

I find it hard to believe that Hurney signed Bridgewater for NFL starter money, then a month or two later wanted to also trade up for Herbert.

2004 Peppers - “only” 11 sacks, but 69 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, 9 passes defensed, 2 INTs and 2 Defensive TDS

Fantastic that we waited this long to sign a veteran guard off the couch who could play instead of continuing to churn through throckmortons and zavalas

Don’t worry about him, he declared he was going to switch teams this season and cheer for Rivera and the Commandos. That’s not working out too well either

This win signifies where we are as a franchise

I personally loved how thiccolas cage was looking on the sideline knowing that there was nothing he could do to stop us from bleeding the clock and never getting the ball back -
I’d bet my life on it. Used the same screenshots in his defense on tepper/PSL availability that he did several times on his old handle

I mean I believe the report, just hard to believe THAT example of “teamwork and communication” is what he thought would fire up his team and get a point across. -

I still can’t believe this part of it… https://x.com/adamschefter/status/1732876971544088931?s=46&t=YYLxyS-jC1bMsd7uOg_6Ag -
First, OP never mentioned in his topic that going after Payton would have been instead of the young trade. I don’t even know that he realized “signing Payton” meant we would have to trade for him like Denver, since he was citing that the reason he wasn’t pursued was because of his ego instead of the more likely scenario that we didnt feel like it was worth trading for him. But playing along with your fantasy GMing, If Payton is such as great coach are we really going to have the number one pick next year? Who was going to be our QB heading into this year if we traded for him? Who is to say we still didn’t trade for young and just give up future additional picks and other players? Why not just sign the younger coach in Steichen that we don’t have to give up draft capital for, and who doesn’t have a smug punchable face? Lasty, it’s Friday afternoon and you’re getting worked up enough about hyping Sean Payton to call people names on a message board. Consider medication.

Broncos had to give up a first and a second to get Payton and a 3rd. I’d imagine our cost would have been higher with the saints being in our division…so no thanks on that one.

Breer mailbag, Tepper similar to Kraft and York early years

IIRC, he was intent on keeping Holcomb as DC so Evero wouldn't likely have been here

I don't think Wilks would have the amount of influence necessary to overrule the trade up even if he thought it was a bad idea. Whoever Tepper hired as coach this offseason was going to have to be with the plan of drafting a rookie and trading up, one way or the other. He wasn't going to tolerate another journeyman QB after cycling through Teddy, Darnold, and Baker, and he couldn't find the superstar QB after being told no for Stafford and Russ Wilson (and probably Aaron Rodgers too). He was willing to trade for Deshaun Watson even with all of the legal issues, and the only reason he's not on our roster now is that Jimmy Haslam was dumb enough to go an extra year with guarantees.
-
We've heard it alluded that Frank would have rather signed Derek Carr than draft a QB at all. Obviously that didn't happen, so why again do we believe that Wilks would have the power to overrule the front office/scouts/Tepper who all wanted to draft and develop a QB? You have repeatedly cited rumblings that Reich preferred Stroud over Young - why do we believe there would have been a different result with Wilks even if he had the same opinion?
-
Highly unlikely. This team was going to take QB no matter who the coach was. You've spent the last three days trying to convince anyone and everyone that Reich wanted no part of Young, yet you believe that Wilks would have somehow overridden the same front office and ownership and we would not have drafted a QB??

You must love being a hornets fan

We would have Al Holcombs defense instead of Evero and yeah we made Quincy Carter and Troy Aikman eat poo, but that wouldn’t stop Micah parsons and all of the other ghosts that Sam Darnold would see on the field. Don’t disagree that wilks ball would be preferable to this poo show. Can’t believe tepper managed to find an offensive coach that made Mike Shula look like a genius.

They'd still get hulk smashed by the Cowboys in the first round of the playoffs, just sayin

Major pie for the NFL Blitz reference

Don't like the matchup, they have a good run defense and questionable secondary (similar to Tennessee). I have a feeling they copy and paste Tennessee's game plan, take Thielen out of it by throwing extra defenders his way and dare us to throw it deep. Not sure if this staff will try something different. There's also the Baker Mayfield revenge game factor and the fact that Mike Evans pretty much owns us.
