  1. I think people get too caught up with Super Bowl wins. It takes a talented team, coach, QB, and some luck to win one. The best chance at winning one is the build a constant contender. A team always in the playoff race. You need a good coach and a franchise QB to do this. We need to build a consistent playoff team then worry about a final piece to make a Super Bowl push. Bengals Burrow, Chiefs Mahomes, and Allen Bills are going to be constant AFC threats. All have talented QBs (2 were traded up to draft), with smart coaches that have built solid teams around these young QBs. That’s the blueprint we should follow IMO. There is also a clear shortage on franchise QBs in the league. This means QBs that could have been 2nd round picks in the past will likely get drafted higher (in the 1st). It’s the most valuable position in sports. If our now very experienced staff falls in love with one then Fitt should have no problem making a trade up happen to acquire that QB.
  2. The point is several teams have already interviewed Carr. The Panthers aren’t one of those teams. If we were remotely interested I feel like we would have bright him in for an interview minimum. It would be a huge cap hurdle to even sign him and our staff is clearly built to develop a QB.
  3. Regardless his situation was weird with the Colts and he was being pushed get an established vet QB to win now. He is equipped to draft his guy and develop him with his staff in Carolina.
  4. Yeah one is a professional QB coach looking at tape vs us fans looking at ESPN stats. I’m not saying he will be Burrow, that is obviously his ceiling, but playing style is way more Burrow than Fields.
  5. That was our QB coach’s comparison. I would imagine he is going to have some input… https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/10065261-cj-stroud-compared-to-joe-burrow-by-panthers-qb-coach-josh-mccown-before-nfl-draft.amp.html
  6. https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2022/story/_/id/33145124/patrick-mahomes-evolving-nfl-draft-quarterback-evaluation-how-chiefs-qb-changed-way-todd-mcshay-scouts-position?platform=amp
  7. Stroud is a Fields clone??? Really? That’s like comparing Tua and Hurts because they played at the same school. They are two completely different players. Stroud can become anywhere from Goff to Burrow (who our new QB coach has already compared him to). You would be better off comparing AR to Fields. No Levis and AR aren’t ready to start week 1 unless we just want them to take their lumps like Buffalo did with Allen. That’s actually the norm for rookie QBs. Week 1 starters that look solid are extremely rare. It’s another reason why waiting another year isn’t the best idea. You are typically 2 plus years away from great QB play when you draft one.
  8. Reich hires the offensive staff and DC. He is letting his new DC hire his defensive staff. It’s no secret how this works. He went into his interview pitching his staff candidates which is what helped him get the job.
  9. Do you think many other classes would have more than 2 (Stroud, and Young), that could be week 1 starters? Most draft QBs are projects. Mahomes didn’t start for a while, Herbert wasn’t suppose to, Watson played 7 games, Allen played but looked awful.
  10. Why do you think this is a weak QB class? Dane Brugler (who is pretty on point with his draft player rankings) has 4 QBs in his top 15 this year. I think the “weak class” comment comes up almost every year. If you aren’t getting a QB at 1 or 2, the QB you are drafting will have some questions. Allen, Mahomes, Watson, Jackson, Herbert for example all had questions about being successful in the NFL. You just have to trust the staff to do their job and we actually have a good one now.
  11. https://raiderswire.usatoday.com/2021/10/28/raiders-de-maxx-crosby-and-yannick-ngakoue-rank-no-1-and-no-2-in-qb-pressures/ FYI 2 years ago Ngakoue led the league in QB pressures. I’m not sure how much of a drop off there is from Burns to him. Definitely not 10 plus million dollars worth…
  12. But it’s not just about future picks. It’s about signing FA pieces to fill other needs like TE and C with the cap savings. I haven’t looked up Ngakoue’s pressure rate, but I’m sure it’s good if he had 9.5 sacks. He had 10 the year before on the Raiders. I mean look no further than Reddick this past year. The Eagles signed him to a much cheaper contract than Burns will demand and he was 2nd in the league in sacks. We just have to make sure we aren’t overvaluing our players because they have been producing. We need a QB first, but we have several pieces we need to strengthen to help that QB succeed. TE, C, WR, DE, LB, FS are all pretty strong needs still. Probably RB as well…
  13. The question is how much will Burns want vs his actual production. For example we can sign Ngakoue for probably around 13 million a year for 2-3 years who has 9.5 sacks in 15 games playing for Reich and the Colts. So (assuming he plays 17 games) he is a double digit sack player. Obvious not quite as good as Burns, but you can get your top QB while saving some picks plus have a good bit of savings that could be used for Bozeman and/or a TE in FA. So would you rather have the extra 4 or so sacks Burns will provide or have Ngakoue, Bozeman, and possibly someone like Gesicki while also acquiring CJ Stroud in the draft without losing a lot of future picks?
  14. Yeah I tend to agree. The only benefit would be the cap savings. Burns is about to get paid.
  15. We need the Raiders to sign either Jimmy G or trade for Rodgers. That would be one less team needing a QB ahead of us in the draft… https://www.si.com/nfl/packers/.amp/news/packers-tumble-in-latest-next-team-odds-for-rodgers
  16. I don’t think anyone is saying Tepper is a genius, at least not a football genius. However he isn’t just some buffoon owner imposing his will on the team whenever he sees fit. He tried something outside the box and failed. Now he is trying a much more traditional way of reestablishing a franchise. He is adaptable and open to change while also not afraid to own and move on from his mistakes. That’s really all we as fans can ask for at this point. If it fails he will scrap it and try again.
  17. Good point. Imagine having him in on interviews to see if any of these young QBs are natural leaders for the team. Great asset to have!
  18. Having Evero and Brown scheming at each other during practice will only make them better too. Very excited about this staff!
  19. Also Reich’s age concerns me much less knowing he can attract these type of young coordinators. When he decides to retire I feel like we will have a solid guy in the wings waiting.
  20. Broncos traded up for Elway (mostly players) and the Bills traded up for Allen (included their starting LT). These trades look better on paper because it’s players vs more picks, but there were starters on decent teams. Maybe we could include a player like Burns and save some picks? Just don’t want to piss off our new DC.
  21. I think it’s the perfect staff to develop a young signal caller. I’m not ruling out a bridge QB, but it looks like they are getting ready to draft one to me. Who knows maybe it’s both?
  22. Agreed. We are putting together a strong staff to develop a young QB. Jackson and Carr don’t need developing. We are drafting a QB and I wouldn’t be surprised if we are moving up to select one.
