New Coach Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo
Stuart Smith replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers

No way that happens.

My humble prediction, I may be as close to nailing it as Mel Kipers draft picks. Houston: DeMeco Ryans Denver: Sean Payton Carolina: Shane Steichen i see a slight possibility for Wilkes in Carolina, but I think Tepper is hell bent on offensive coach. I hope I’m wrong. Defense still wins championships. If Tepper moves off of Wilkes as HC I see him trying to offer him a position to placate the fanbase. Just my thoughts.

In games like these it often comes down to things coaches preach all year. Penalties at crucial times, turnovers, missed field goals or extra points, etc.
-
If you go on the Houston forums they really like Ryan’s, he played there. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle is the most respected writer in Houston. He says the Texans have DeMeco Ryan’s on speed dial. Ryan’s was a linebacker for Houston from 2006-2011.

I feel like Ryan’s is the candidate Houston wants, I think he may be going there.

Go on to Denver. -
Sean Payton is currently the hot name in coaching circles, however while many think he will coach again I am not sure he will. I have to think there is a better than 50% chance he stays with Fox. He may be angling for more money from them at contract time.
-
If I was Payton I would play Tepper and then sign in Denver. I don’t think Denver’s new owner will be as meddlesome as Tepper.
-
If Wilkes is retained it is probably already determined what coaches would be dismissed. I am pretty sure Wilkes would notify them since he hired them. (Someone correct me if I am wrong). I do hope we keep Campen and Chris Tabor.
-
It is no coincidence he left New Orleans when his quarterback retired. He left before his contract was up. After Bountygate and his one year suspension it turned a lot of people off.
-
I think Payton is playing us. I think he is going to be in Denver or maybe wait another year, using us for leveraging his contract. I hope Tepper will not give up a first round pick for him. After seeing the Miami coach vaping during their game that job will be open soon again I believe, if not this year next. Payton may wait on it even till next year. Remember there are several states with no state income tax, Florida, Tenn, and Nevada are among them. Not the biggest factor, but something to think about.
-
They may have decided, but then why is Sean Payton meeting with them? I think he is using the Panthers to drive his asking price up for other teams. A lot of us don’t want him anyway.
-
I agree. But being given a chance means some time behind the starters on the line, and coaches need to spend some time with him to develop him as much as possible. He was an afterthought this year, even before he was hurt. All we heard about was Mayfield. Brock Purdy was helped a lot by Jimmy Garrapolo according to McCaffrey.
-
He deserves a chance. What is Brock Purdue had not been given a chance.
-
He is playing in a tough market. He has grown up and is now a good quarterback.

What if Stroud doesn’t declare for draft…
Stuart Smith replied to mc52beast's topic in Carolina Panthers
He may be wanting to stay and try and win a national championship, He has to be getting a ton of NIL money. He may see who has the top picks and does not like what he sees. Who knows. I remember a similar situation with Andrew Luck. -
Tepper enamored with Ben Johnson per Person

We may have a Brock Purdy on the roster. Won’t know till he sees the field. -
We don’t know till Corral sees the field.

Without doing research it seems I remember the Rams had already traded their draft picks this year in the Stanford trade.
-
Remember, he was injured for almost 2 full seasons as a Panther. He should have fresher legs than others his age.
