Rhule had almost complete roster control. If the roster churn happened, it's because he wanted it. Here's the issue. There have been five coaches in the history of the NFL who have had two losing seasons to start their career, then gone on to have 8+ season and a SB appearance with that club. Since 1980, there has been ONE. The question everyone should be asking is "Do I believe Rhule is capable of breaking forty years of history that says it's time to cut bait?"

Remember when all we needed was a LT? Good times man, good times.

You're leaning pretty heavily on some staff blowups there . . . I wouldn't be surprised if Castillo and Bisaccia retain their current positions even in regime change.

Meh. Was hoping for some better insights. Nothing the Huddle hasn't already mulled over. *shrug*

What is Tepper seeing that nobody else here sees?
BrianS replied to mc52beast's topic in Carolina Panthers
I've said it in other threads, I'll say it again here. Rhule in Carolina has one major issue: trajectory. Right now, the trajectory of the franchise is down. Look on the field. It doesn't take an NFL expert or analyst. Does this team look better than it did last year? We heard a lot about culture. The roster has turned over nearly 80% since Rhule arrived. His "culture" is in place. This is it. What do we see? Coaches being fired. Players calling each other out. Players shifting blame. Coaches calling out players directly in public. Is that a successful culture? For Rhule himself, you have to compare him to history. Rhule is going to start his tenure with two losing seasons. Do you know how many coaches in NFL history have done that and gone on to 8+ year careers and a Super Bowl appearance? Five. Ever. Since 1980? One. Are these the signs of a team that is turning the corner? Is Rhule going to beat incredible odds to turn the team around? No. These are the reasons Rhule needs to go, now. -
So, We Move On From Rhule, Do we try and keep Snow?
BrianS replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
While Snow has surpassed expectations, I think we need to allow a potential new head coach to bring in his own. If that coach interviews Snow and decides that's who he wants, ok, I guess. I'd still like to see more NFL experience on the roster, especially when it comes to coordinators. -
Ooh, pick me! I know the answer! Because they had a guy with EXTENSIVE NFL experience as a coordinator who could take over.

Are fans the only ones screaming for Rhule's head/firing?
BrianS replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Here's the problem: We've been conned into thinking that everything is a throw away until we have a franchise QB. Now, I'm definitely in the camp that says you need a franchise QB to bring home a Lombardi. But I don't think that precludes us from competing. Many teams are competing with "lesser" QB's. The Broncos are over .500 with TB5. The Eagles and WTF's are just under .500 with Jalen Hurts and Taylor Heinecke. Play for one of these "good not great" QB's while you build your team. When the opportunity comes to get "THE GUY", you get him and push for a championship. Honestly, I could stand a few years of 10-7 back to back while we seach for "the guy" in a responsible way. -

It's all about trajectory. Maybe you can't make a complete cultural and functional turnaround in two years. But by the end of year two you should see a very clear upward trajectory. That is clearly NOT what we are seeing here. I look on the field and year over year, game over game, I don't see us making progress. Quite the opposite. We now have coaches calling out individual players in very questionable ways - publicly. We see players deflecting blame - publicly. Our results on the field are going backwards. I'd rather not ride the train all the way to the scene of the accident at the end of 2022. Let's hop off on a side track NOW and start working toward an actual solution. -
Hasson Reddick… what are you going to offer him?
BrianS replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Depends on the next staff and their evaluation. It's going to be a question of which one you want to keep between Burns and Reddick. We cannot keep both. -
Regardless of what "we" think as Panthers fans, the bottom line is that DJ is going to get $15 million per season minimum from someone. Curtis Samuel and Devin Funchess got $10 per year and neither of them ever approached DJ's level of production before getting paid. I'm not sure he's worth that. He does seem to have issues when he isn't the primary target and it's certainly led to situations where his lack of effort has cost his teammates. I don't like that in a guy who is THE guy.

You can only play who is on your schedule. We knew the end of the season would be tough from the day the schedule was announced. No surprises. I can only hope that the front office has decided already that our performance this year has not been an improvement over last year. I can only hope the front office has seen that the team has lost faith in their coach. The only answer I need is that Rhule will not be in charge next year. This year is a throw away. Let's make next year better.

Fine. The all-stars weren't there for BC's outstanding performance against Washington. But you're talking about two of the better young edge rushers in the league there also. Gross used to get beat on the regular by Peppers, but he was still an outstanding LT for us. Were the guys Atlanta put on the field yesterday any better than the guys Washington put on the field that day? You could probably see it either way. But the entire situation makes no sense. You've got a rookie with promise. The single time you play that rookie in the position he played in college the rookie turns in one of the best performances of the year across the entire position group. And you never play him there again. Once again: I am not a pro level talent evaluator. BC may fail spectacularly at LT. But ffs, you have to GIVE HIM A CHANCE, don't you?
-
I would bring him back - so long as Rhule is NOT back. If you give Cam an entire offseason to work with his teammates and learn the offense, he can hold down the fort for a year or two more. We need to buy that time while the rebuild that was supposed to be happening now is actually done. You aren't going to fix all our problems in one offseason, but you can fix a lot. I know we'll never see 2015 Cam again, but I do think he can be 2018 Cam again. That Cam was pretty darn good until TJ ended him.

Not just guard - right guard. Opposite side that he has played his entire career. The longer he is here, the more Rhule looks like Rivera.

At the very least Rhule should lose personel decisions.

Yea, there was one. I remember the threads. Probably early last season. -

BrianS replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Didn't watch the game eh? Yea, I get ya. Just to bring you up to speed, the defense only gave up 22 points. Falcons defense scored 7 against our offense. A second Falcons TD happened because we handed them a short field on a fumble. A third score, a FG this time, happened on an 18 yard Falcons drive. You guessed it, gave up the ball on our side of the 50 again. On scoring drives, the Falcons starting field position was: ATL 25, ATL 49, ATL 25, CAR 49, CAR 48. On non-scoring drives, Falcons starting FP was: ATL 25, ATL 11, ATL 46 (half), ATL 44, ATL 40 (game). You cannot win with the FP so firmly in the opponents favor. You put your defense in crap situations and you lose. That's it. -

I don't see any way to sell the fan base on keeping him another year. Even if we manage to win a couple meaningless games at the end, we have not looked like a better team this year. -
Completely agree on Bienemy. Reid's OC have been awful when they moved on. Likewise with Leftwich, he smells like another Adam Gase to me. Propped up by an all timer of a QB. I like Hackett. Set aside his time in Green Bay for a sec. When looking at his time with the Jags, keep in mind that the last time the Jags went to the playoffs they did so with Hackett as the OC, they won two games in the playoffs before finally losing to the New England Brady's at New England by four points. All with Blake *(&$@ing Bortles at QB.

Another topic here got me thinking, and then digging. We continue to see our QB's throwing interceptions left and right. We are frustrated. Understandable. And I don't think it's on the QB anymore. Let me show you what I dug up. Last year, the Denver Broncos were the most intercepted team in the NFL. Vic Fangio, HC. Pat Shurmur, OC. This year, the Broncos are the 10th *least* intercepted team in the NFL. All while employing our castaway, Teddy Bridgewater at QB. Last year, the Carolina Panthers were tied with the Jags as the 4th most intercepted team in the NFL. Matt Rhule, HC, Joe Brady, OC. This year, the Panthers the 2nd most intercepted team in the NFL. Sam Darnold, PJ Walker, Cam Newton. Doesn't matter. We now have seen four QB's play in the Joe Brady system. All of them have looked like turnover machines. TB5 leaves, and he reverts to being the solid game manager he's always been. We've been blaming our QB's for throwing picks, and I'm utterly unconvinced this is their fault. Any of them. Teddy is looking more credible by the day at this point.

That's actually not completely necessary. The language is interesting in that it says "fired or informed they won't be back". I can definitely see a scenario where Tepper says "Matt, you won't be back next year". That allows Rhule to finish out the year and doesn't put us in a worse spot with no one really capable of stepping up in the interim. It allows Tepper to get moving on finding the next guy.

Dumping Joe Brady was never going to fix the problem within the season. There is a reason it takes an entire offseason to install an offense. The play design is lackluster, the situational calling of the plays is uninspired and many of the players executing the plays are subpar. It's easy math really. On average, an NFL team scores 24 points. In games where we score 24+, we are 3-2. In games we score less than 24, we are 2-6.

May I introduce you to Terrace Marshall Jr?

Jordan Gross talks arm length (Rhule is full of poo)
BrianS replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Arm length doesn't matter if you can't stay in front of your man. I'm looking at you Dennis Daley. -
*DISCLAIMER* - I am very much in favor of finding out of BC is a NFL tackle. I have been all along. However . . . Except they didn't. Brady: If you believe arm length is that important, that's fine. However, here's the guy they favor over BC at LT: Dennis Daley The guy they have at LT is slower, not as quick, not as strong, not as explosive as BC is. I just can't make heads or tails of it. Daley's longer arms are irrelevant if he can't stay in front of his man - which he can't. I can't fathom why we don't just give him a chance. If BC comes in, plays LT and lays an egg, fine. The staff can then go "See? This is why we don't play him there." On the other hand, BC sports the best grade at LT we've seen all season in the limited time he's played there. Isn't that at least worth a long look?
