Coaching made this game Closer then it should have been..
45catfan replied to WOW!!'s topic in Carolina Panthers
Totally sarcasm; I'm well versed in it. The point remains, we got out-coached in the second half and it didn't have to be that way. Only a Panthers' staff would assume the opponent, who got beat badly in first half, would not come out super-aggressive in the second half. The Jets defensive front four is the strength of that team and dialing up pressure all second half was the only way they were going to get back in the game. Who didn't see that coming? Apparently Joe Brady. -

So the Jets made second half adjustments? Wow, that's crazy. That's odd because I thought you have a game plan and stick with it no matter what, even when it becomes ineffective. I mean, that's the Panthers' way, right? -
Um guys, they were in 'I" formation which tips the play is a run no matter who the players at FB and TE are. It could have been play action, but not much of that yesterday either. Oh yeah, that not wanting to put too much on film thing.

I still say we cut Thomas and save the $2M. He's the same dude as Colin Thompson and Thompson is much cheaper. The last time I checked, we aren't running 3 TE sets. Move Ricci back to TE and, for crying out loud, bring in a TRUE FB.

My point exactly. If Brady had no idea the Jets D was going to come out in the second half and get after Sam Darnold after getting blanked in the first half, then he's a twit. It shouldn't take more than two series to see if the opponent has shifted strategies. Heck, I noticed the difference only after our first series. The Jets front four was bringing the heat every snap. Yet, Brady insisted on still pushing the ball down field. It wasn't until the 4th quarter he started to dial up plays to counter the Jets front's aggressiveness.

Yup, not his natural position and the play looked fubar from the jump, so it probably hasn't practiced much. -
The staff either severely underestimated this Jets team and thought they would just roll over in the second half or they are they can't adjust a game plan mid-game. Regardless of which it was...possibly both, that bodes poorly on the coaching staff.

And they wonder why people don't like going to the games anymore. I feel sorry for folks that are just now starting to attend games. The old days were so much more fun. Most of the people I tailgated with have either sold their PSLs, simply let them go or sale them (entire season or cherry pick games). The sentiment is the same amongst us all, the atmosphere isn't what it used to be, not even close.

Our OL sucks, so running between the tackles for short yardage is akin to trying to run through a brick wall. Our OL gets zero push.

Not until the 4th quarter when Joe FINALLY realized we had to get the ball out quick.

He was 56% on 3rd downs, not horrible. Most of those misses were in the second half when we were still playing long ball with the jets D-line pinning their ears back. I put that on the coaches, particularly Brady.

We can’t go into next week with Santoso right? RIGHT?
45catfan replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
He went from being the hunted to the hunter. He's not the one looking over his shoulder anymore, he's the dude trying to cement a new job. it's weird, but some people need a change to get the weight off their shoulders. I doubt he was oblivious to the fact that Panthers fans were extremely critical of him. Slye has a clean slate in Houston. -
We are only a few more victories from your Howell bubble being busted, lol.

I went to the play-by-play and if I counted Darnold's passes correctly he was 75% in the first half...with 2 of the incomplete passes being legit drops. One by DJ and one by Marshall. But please continue....
-
Let me see, a 68.5% completion rate, 102 rating and ZERO picks, but you guys want to nitpick. Got it...

The rest of his kicks were straight. All kickers miss kicks. I did like the fact he made his kicks after the botched PAT. -
That was his only bad miss not under duress that I can recall. Granted it was a biggie, but one missed pass all game where he didn't have guys all around him, I'll take it. Had it not been in the end zone, we wouldn't be talking about it.

Who was that team a few years ago that cut their kicker before the season and ended up singing/cutting several more throughout the year? Yeah, I don't want to be them whoever it was. -
Nailed it.

Hands on the ball should be a completed pass. Was is a little high? Yes. Was it able catchable? That's a yes as well.
-
Sam did well. He had a few drops by receivers and the OC and OL did him no favors in the 2nd half where most of his incomplete passes occurred. I'd give him a solid grade of a 'B'.
-
This is what happens when a team seldomly uses a FB, miscues when one actually enters the game. I say is was on both guys, honestly. Sam held ball out too early, but Ricci didn't have to be so close to Sam either when he obviously was not the intended ball carrier.

Therein lies the problem. If Brady had no clue that the Jets were going to dial up the pressure on Darnold being down several scores in the second half, then something is VERY wrong. He should have anticipated it and has the foresight to adjust the game plan accordingly.

Brady had to understand that in the NFL, versus college, the team lining up on the other side of the ball is nearly your equal EVERY WEEK, so if your game plan suddenly hits a wall adjustments have to be made. In college, especially against lesser teams, you can stubbornly stick to the game plan after some stalled drives and still end up being okay. In the NFL, you have to make those decisions on the fly. He FINALLY figured it out in the 4th quarter after it was almost too late.
