Hopefully not. Hopefully they see it as the more it looks like they want to keep him the more they might could get from other teams, but hopefully thats not just wishful thinking.

Its the non exclusive tag. I dont know why people are jumping to say that means hes probably staying. I get that tag and trades arent especially common but the media doesnt seem to really know anything which is a positive sign i think. Three days ago they were talking about how they were working out a long term deal and the literal next day they were saying there werent going to be any more long term talk. Regardless of what the media say it seems fairly clear that the #1 goal is to try to trade him for a good return, that seems the priority over long term deal now I would guess.

Rizzuti & USA Today on prospects we've talked with
Tr3ach replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Today it was said that they officially ended talks with Burns getting a long term deal. This is just a fairly weak class at edge, especially at 33. -
Whats your question?

So far ive heard 2 rumors from the dan morgan era. They are probably going to cave and overpay burns because the cap increase and they keep talking to the big receivers that dont get seperation in the draft. I strongly disagree with both of these moves and I never liked promoting Dan. I always felt like we needed a full refresh and this is just confirming my fears.

Officially Entering My Vote for WR Keon Coleman
Tr3ach replied to chknwing's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think thats a silly argument anyways. Tua is barely 6' and both his wr are 5'10 and they have no problem putting up passing numbers. Its as silly as the old Cam has to have tall receivers so he doesnt over throw them junk. These big receivers who dont get seperation but can sometimes make contested catches are old school. Thats not what modern offenses use anymore. Thats what tight ends are for. Almost all the best passing offense utilize mostly receivers between 5'8 and 6'1 I would guess without really digging in to it. -
Officially Entering My Vote for WR Keon Coleman

That would be such a panthers move. If we draft one of these big straight line receivers instead of just someone who can get open and create seperation without needing a lot of time then I will officially be done with Morgan because I wasnt sold on him to begin with. Dawg is attitude, it doesnt have to mean big and strong. Give me quick guys that can seperate. I dont care if theyre 5'10. I want to see how well they run routes and what their cone times are. I dont care much about the rest. -
I understand what youre saying but Tua is barely 6' playing with those wrs.
-
No. They are 5'10 wr obviously. Tua is barely 6' qb 2" taller than Bryce. Saying Bryce has to have tall receivers because hes 2" shorter is as bad as the whole Cam needs tall receivers so he doesnt overthrow them.
-
Tyreek Hill and Waddle are both 5'10. You dont have to have these big receivers any more. Quick timing routes, receivers that can get seperation and yac are the modern NFL. I hope we dont prioritize size at all with our wr selections. Ive heard weve talks to leggett multiple times and that terrifies me and I'm worried about Morgan as if is.

Marvin Harrison Jr skips his media presser
Tr3ach replied to jayboogieman's topic in Carolina Panthers
Last years draft was full of fast little guys so we reached on a big guy. This draft is full of big possession guys when we need a quick route running speed guy. -
I dont think so. If he wont budge on the whole 30m per thing then there isnt much to talk about.

It always amazes me people who take every word the coach/gm says in an interview as meaningful or the truth of what their plans are. You are going to get generic coach speak even if it seems like they are saying more. They have no reason or obligation to tell us what their plans are. All that does is hurt their ability to do their actual job.
-
I definitely agree, I'm just saying it seems easier to find stop gap free agents on the defensive side than the offensive side.
-
I was thinking about this the other day. It seems like you almost always want to build the offense through the draft because there are never many good free agents unless they are past their prime. The only exception may be running backs. Where as with defense you can plug some holes with free agents every year.

Last I remember he was giving a list of the select few teams he would play backup for. That doesnt help his case. Also didnt he recently say he didnt want to play anymore?
-
All the best teams are built through the draft these days.

Smitty on the 2024 WR Draft Class (w/cliffnotes)
Tr3ach replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
There are reasons opposing secondaries didnt respect our receivers at all. They had no fear of getting beat by any of our receivers and they played like it the entire game. Mingo was part of that. You can say bad qb play and oline play was too obviously, but dbs were never worried about any of our receivers. They never worried about getting beat over the top. They stood flat footed to come play the run, they jumped every single short route because they knew the receivers we have werent good enough to punish them for it. -
Josina Anderson thoughts on the Burns situation

This is the absolute worst option for Panthers long term success. -

Getting Crunch Time for the Panthers and Brian Burns
Tr3ach replied to 45catfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Ive just seen him totally getting taken out of the play 1v1 against a tight end or a chip block too many times. -

I could see Brown more, I'm just not a fan of Legette. I dont want to see a guy being good at contested catches in college. In college i want to see them getting open and creating seperation. Guys who make a lot of contested catches in college really struggle to create any seperation in the nfl. -

He was literally ranked like the #130th receiver as far as getting open last season.
