In what world are you living. The first 1st would have just been made in the 2024 draft and we’d have two 1sts in the upcoming 2025 draft. The 2nd was pick 36 in the 2023 draft, so we’d have already used two of the three picks. 4 to 5 years out? It wasn’t part of the conversation because it wasn’t reality. I kept saying that people who argued against it didn’t get that we’d get two solid starters with the money we saved (Hunt and Lewis) plus be one good GM away from also getting 3 rookie starters, any of whom might be better than Burns by himself. I was 100% right and everyone who argued against the trade was 100% wrong, period. It was an awful trade to not make. Fitterer fuged up, simple as that. We made the Burns trade one 2-14 year later and turned a 2024 1st and 2025 1st into a 2024 5th and 2025 5th. The biggest fug up by Fitterer was not using the Burns trade as our feeder into a rookie QB. Making the Rams Burns trade would have basically made the mistake of Young not devastating to our talent. Fitterer doubled down and lost both.

Do we attempt to extend Diontae this season?
WhoKnows replied to Panthercougar68's topic in Carolina Panthers
There are guys like him in every draft. Guys like Dell and Downs. Just because we can’t draft quick/get open WRs doesn’t mean they aren’t there. We aren’t a contender. Yes, we beat the Raiders, but that’s all we got. We have a chance to beat bad teams if the D doesn’t poo the bed. If we can get a good long term asset, we should. Not a day 3 pick but a legit pick from a team that is a contender and is in desperate need of a quality WR. Heck, who’s to say we can throw money at DJ after the season since Rice will likely be healthy for 2025. -

It would need to be at least a 2nd or say a 2026 1st. Rice being hurt is huge for KC. They could have lost every single game so far and Kelce without Rice still only managed 7 for 80. Their running game is hurt. They are 4-0 and have the tiebreaker with the Ravens. A trade might be the only way to keep them with a chance. We could take advantage of their weakness right now. -
Don’t remember preseason 2023 at all? There were tons of threads on how bad the OL looked. Iky was getting killed in one on one situations. Not blitzes, just man on man, this one guy is who you have to block. Hendrickson causing the interception of Dalton being an example of how Iky was losing one on one all the time in 2023. You are completely ignoring the fact that our entire interior OL wasn’t there in 2023 and Iky was playing awful. Maybe you don’t remember this but our 2023 OL was terrible. It didn’t help that Young sucked as well but they were bad well before we knew Young sucked.
-
Our OL was crap as well last year. Both can be true. Iky let up a pressure on Sunday that caused an interception and a Cincy TD. Doesn’t mean Dalton caused the OL failure. People overrated the OL last year. Injuries and Iky’s regression were obvious. Do you not recall how bad they looked in preseason? Iky was getting beat one on one all the time and Bryce barely played in the preseason last year. Bryce sucked but the 2023 OL did as well and we saw the start of that in preseason, especially with the injuries. We wouldn’t have spent $150M on two guards if that OL was good.

Yes, he was absolutely 100% the fault on offense. He was awful and as I felt last year, I don’t think he’ll ever be a serviceable starter in the NFL. No, he was not to fault on the defense. The whole 3 and out comment doesn’t work when the D gives up TDs to the opponents before Young stepped on the field or on the first drives well rested after halftime or blatantly whiffs on multiple tackles leading to 60 yard TDs. Our D clearly sucks, especially without Brown and is so full of talent holes that no QB play would fix. As bad as Mahomes is playing, he’d likely be 0-4 if he had our D and that’s not an exaggeration.
-
Again, we gave up TDs on the first drives of games before Young ever stepped on the field. We lost in part due to failing at the goal line, but more so because the D let up an TD with 1 minute left before half and then let them march down the field right after half when they were rested during halftime. Our D is just ass, it is. It has been for a bit. Brown and maybe Horn, if he stays healthy, are the only guys other teams would even want to have on their teams. I know people have enjoyed Dalton starting (my son and I have), but there are still so many holes on our team, including depth. We lose Brown and we become the worst D in the league. We lose Thielen and we drop too many balls. Hopefully, Legette, Brooks and Sanders take big steps next year so we can focus on the D and maybe add a Tank Dell/Josh Downs type as our 3rd WR in the 3rd or 4th round. Not sure about any QB in this draft so I wouldn’t be opposed to the best D player. I see some DL/CBs up high in mocks. Ideally, we can trade down a little for a QB needy team. I know we are too but maybe we fleece someone for once.
-
Either way, he’s an UFA and I think we need to walk away and say thanks. He got paid very well so It wouldn’t surprise me if he did retire.

Dalton wasn’t a top QB in the AFC but you can be a pro bowler filling in for guys in the SB or don’t want to play.

Best and worst PFF grades from Panthers' Week 3 win
WhoKnows replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Chubba is a JAG, but he’s always going all out. As I got roped back into Fantasy this year, I will caution that the Raiders have been awful against the run. Well over 400 yards and 3 TDs in 3 games. Their comeback against the Ravens made them look better than their should be 0-3 record. Their coach talking about firing people needs to look in the mirror. If Brooks is what we hoped, we should see some really good results with this OL. -
Best and worst PFF grades from Panthers' Week 3 win

I thought Tremble was OK but Sanders messed up a few times. He was the one who blocked Moton and let Dalton take a hit from an untouched blocker. He didn’t catch anything either. He waited for it and let the defender make a play on the ball instead. -
That was Sanders fault. He turned into Moton like he was blocking Moton and Moton wasn’t able to get the LB. I don’t know if Sanders was supposed to block the guy or just chip him but he was going the opposite of everyone else. Honestly, Sanders was the only guy who didn’t play well IMHO. Almost everyone else looked good or at least had a good contribution. Maybe Zavala since he got the false start but he also wasn’t a starter/wouldn’t have played if not for injury. Thomas hasn’t stepped on a field yet this year so it wasn’t him.

R either but damn Zavala with a false start on 3rd and 2. I’m enjoying the game and resurgence, but a real resurgence will require much better depth (and some starters too). Zavala out there drops us a lot. -

All I know is this was completely unexpected. Unbelievable. Panthers fans at the game went to the right away game and Raiders fans have got to be in utter shock, especially after coming back against the Ravens last week. -

To go up 28. I understand it because the Raiders cannot kick a FG at this point so only way we lose would be if Raiders get 4 TDs. -

At this point in time, who feels like we lost this trade?
WhoKnows replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
It has to after the past 7 years, including this season already. I’ve been laughing more than anything watching so far this year. It’s almost comical how bad it’s been. Everyone in here cheering for a 37 year old Dalton with a less than 40% win rate since 2015, his last above .500 year. That’s how far Fitterer dug the hole of Panthers talent. I’m just hoping we don’t have years of Trent Richardson, Brady Quinn, Gilbert, Manziel, Corey Coleman, Cameron Erving, Danny Shelton,… I mean, Erving we signed and we even took a guy named Mingo and Manziel and Young are similar in terms of flops. Lord help us so that we are taking our Myles Garrett in 2025 to end our meh drafting since 2017 aside from a couple guys we already traded, SMH. -
The Bryce excuses stopped after week 2. I saw a freshman QB for NC State make a couple throws we saw Young not be able to hit last week. Dude was getting killed by Clemson and only starting because of multiple injuries yet his WRs were throwing fits because he couldn’t make throws. It’s funny to see the Bryce supporters now saying we shouldn’t trade him because he might do better elsewhere. Lol, I’d love to see that day. All these QB busts that have been thrown around the last few years have one thing in common. They all have good physical traits. If some other team wants to save us $10M in cap space the next two years, I’m all for it.

WhoKnows replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
Sorry @rayzor but damn. Personally, I wasn’t against the trade but I wanted Fitterer gone with Rhule and wanted to tank for a rookie QB trading Burns and probably Moore (GB offered their 2023 1st). I thought we might not take the worst QB prospect and trade up without the ammo in hand. The trade in a vacuum may have been OK but not trading Burns and taking a QB that didn’t have NFL level skills turned it into a poo show where we go 2-17 and bench the QB we took #1. -

Geez, this is an awful thread and full of terrible takes. Funny, in a sad way since this trade fuged up the team, how so many people were so positive about the trade and Young and have now joined us on the dark side or reality. Don’t go to page 9, it’s a doozy, lol. -
BREAKING: Giants looking to trade for Brian Burns
WhoKnows replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
One of the big reasons I wanted to go outside to a proven successful GM/assistant GM and not go internal with Morgan. It’s still legitimately crazy that we said no to that QB level draft pick bundle. I mean you truly have to be an idiot to pass that up. Again, for anyone following along, it was 2 1sts and 1 2nd to trade a guy asking for $30M a year because we were trying to sign him to an extension. Had we made that deal, we basically would have gotten Hunt and Lewis for the cap space of Burns plus 2 1sts and 1 2nd. Five potential solid starters for one. Criminally insane to pass that up. The even more disappointing thing is that before the 2023 season started, our 2024 1st would have been less valuable than the Rams because we had 2 more wins than them and we’re about to add the missing QB. We could have likely traded the Rams 1sts and kept our 2024 1st pick and DJ Moore.- 543 replies

Especially since eye level matters more than height and Bryce has a lower eye level even if he’s only a couple inches shorter. Stroud is 3 inches taller but Brees’ eye level is just a tiny bit lower. Brees is only 2 inches taller than Young but his eye level is closer to Stroud than Young. It’s like the 205 or whatever Bryce weighed at the combine before he peed and pooped 2 pounds off. We drafted a crazy outlier and his arm is just not good enough and if we waste any more years trying to see if some special offense might make him an NFL QB, that would be incredibly stupid.

It really doesn’t. We had to trade Burns cheap just to sign the guards. Our cap space in 2025 is 19th, meaning we are in the bottom half of cap space even though we are the least talented team and we aren’t signing “studs” to huge deals. We’ll get by fine but our cap space isn’t good if you will. A 2-15 team with a rookie QB contract, should be flush with cap space.
