REPORT: Panthers like Mykel Williams
Gapanthersfan replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Garbage teams that blow rounds 1 and/or 2 stay garbage teams. Those 2 spots are the lifeblood of the org. -
He’s a guy that does his job, reliably. I’ll never be upset retaining guys like that on the cheap.

I feel like, because it’s true, EVERY draft this team goes for the ‘versatile’ dudes, and have no idea why they never seem to hit. Every year. If they would just draft NFL ready/almost ready, non-tweener guys from the powerhouse teams, they would take a gigantic step. Just go BPA, but they can’t help themselves… every year they overestimate their talent and convince themselves that they’re only a few pieces away. They reach in the draft to fill the perceived need, only to realize that they’re paper thin depth wise because they’ve filled the team with years of tweener reach picks. Just stop the madness. When it’s your turn, get the guy who is most likely to go all-pro, regardless of the position. All pro dudes raise the level of play of everyone else. Get that guy.

Panthers sign Jaycee Horn to $100 million dollar deal
Gapanthersfan replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Since the departure of this team’s defensive greats, there has been a gigantic void at home grown talent who has the cred to hold dudes accountable. I see Horn having that quality in spades. when bro showed up out of nowhere to bow up on offensive linemen during the dust up, I saw it. Heart. Leadership. Those guys are gold and don’t just disappear when the ink dries. -
Panthers re-sign Brady Christiansen
Gapanthersfan replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
All the consistently good teams are deep on the lines. It appears that our FO realizes that. -
This is the cost of building a team with enough talent to compete, when there is almost none in place.

Panthers sign Jaycee Horn to $100 million dollar deal
Gapanthersfan replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
He knows his value. The $$ he got is not out of line. It’s the cost of doing business. Just y’all wait until the Ickey train gets rolling. The move him to RT people miss the fact that he is not going to take anything less than LT money. -
Myles Garrett, Browns Agree to Record Deal

Agreed. It was a bad move for them. -
Steelers trade for metcalf. $150million. 2nd rd pick
Gapanthersfan replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Legit take a game over, proven stud who is t a 1 year wonder. I’m disappointed and relieved at the same time. That’s money for a safety/LB/DE/center this team desperately needs more. -
Myles Garrett, Browns Agree to Record Deal
Gapanthersfan replied to Prowler2k18's topic in Carolina Panthers
Oh 100%. That team is 100% toast. Absolutely head scratching move since they could have traded him for some MAJOR draft capital. Imagine him in Buffalo or Washington. He himself is worth every penny they doled out for him, but it ends up hurting more than helping. 1. obvious cap implications 2. He is so dominant that they will win 2-3 more games each season than they would without him, robbing them of a top 5 draft pick. How strong is that. He is such a game wrecker that he alone virtually kills their shot at a top 5 pick. -

He’s a lock HOF’er and he’s worth every penny. -

I’m on record as being strongly in Horn’s corner and said already that he’s going to want top CB money… similarly, y’all better buckle up for what Ickey is going to want. I love Horn’s game. He brings it and can play the run. A straight up trade with DK… maaaan, now that’s tough, but DK is the bigger game breaker between the 2. Who would I rather they back up the Brinks truck on? DK all day. He’s just a more valuable piece. A QB can throw away from Horn’s side and still dominate a game. DK is a straight up problem for ANY DB in the league and a threat to score on any play.

Canales on TE spot from Char observer
Gapanthersfan replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
This… And exactly why it has to be BPA. This team needs an all-pro or 3 to rise from the ashes. The beauty of an all pro player is that it really doesn’t matter what position they play. They are game breakers, and raise the entire level of play for the team. They make the game changing plays on their own. They know how to close a game out. These are the guys who go in the first 2 rounds. Teams that draft on need will whiff on game breakers most of the time. They reach. The Panthers way. This team last year. Imagine if Luvu stayed and we had drafted a DUDE edge player to pair with Clowney and lucked out on a gem safety, all while Horn stays healthy. The complexion is entirely different with only a few pieces. -

For some reason I thought I remember hearing BB was in his own class. I remember the Pitts train. -

If Brock Bowers who obliterated virtually every measurable category, has won every ‘I’m the f-in man’ award at every level, and was touted correctly, as the best TE prospect EVER, went 13th (yes I know, coming off an injury) …. For God’s sake. Hard pass at 8. D line BPA. Please. -
BPA in the first round gives the best chance of getting a potential all pro player. All pro players, regardless of the position they play, elevate the entire team. Weak on d line? An all pro safety and LB will completely change the complexion. Weak at RB and WR. All pro center. Boom. Top 10 running game and a QB that keeps the chains going. Draft out of need is an over-reach the majority of the time. It doesn’t matter if you draft at a position you’re already strong at. Any all-pro player raises the play of the entire team. In the first round, it’s usually pretty damn obvious who that guy is, but this team’s kryptonite is the obvious guy. Hurney picked Kuechly when the team already had Jon Beason. How’d that work out?
-
Because obvious picks are obvious picks. huddle: ‘who would the Steelers or Ravens pick right now?’ Panthers f/o: ‘Who would the Jags pick right now?’ It is truly pathetic, especially the whiffs in the early round picks.
-
1. This new regime is allergic to choosing the obvious guy. 2. For all the talk, I see no dawg in XL. I see fringe #2/3 wr in the making. Elite #1s are hand catchers and have always been hand catchers. 3. She told me it was a big skin tag.

Andy is good for Bryce, and was probably instrumental in his development. He is certainly the ONLY friend version 1.0 had in the entire state. He’s cheap, a mentor, and can at least still throw a good ball. He’s a backup, accepts the role, and has amassed valuable knowledge. Does anyone legit think that there will be ANY semblance of a QB competition come training camp? Bryce 2.0 is THE starter, unquestioned, at least through the end of next season. Bro hung a 40 burger, winning in OT, in the house where the Panthers, every season, invent new ways to lose. 2006 (tie, scored 44) and 1998 (scored 51) were the ONLY other games, in Panthers history, where this point total was either met or surpassed. Those squads were pretty stacked with Panthers’ all time offensive greats. Bryce’s team featured Chuba, 3 rookies, 2 veteran nobodies at TE, and Thielen. His previous visit to the dome… he got smashed, embarrassed, and looked like he had no business playing a grown ass man’s game. As abysmal as the team was last season, that game was arguably the best win the Panthers have ever had in the dome. If someone else could have done it, it would have been done many times over by now, but it hasn’t been. I’m no Bryce homer and dished dirt on his game like few others, but you can’t just fade that off as a nothing. It was significant, and only the stiffest detractors feel otherwise. There is no QB competition.

Is running back on the table for the panthers this draft?
Gapanthersfan replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
I know it has to be difficult on Dan, especially with an owner like tepp, to convince him to take, ‘yes Mr Tepper, we’re picking another lineman.’ ‘No,no sir, yes I realize X has a big upside, but sir, we’re really thin along both lines. It’s how you win footba…’ And with the 8th pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the Carolina Panthers select blah blah blah, WR, out of tank your roster U. Every team will be thin somewhere. I would MUCH rather run thin at RB or WR than ANY position on the lines. Consistently good teams have depth on lines. Teams like the panthers keep a ‘good enough’ approach, with the o line, especially. Put some decent line starters out there, call it done, then blow high draft picks with raw skill position guys with a supposed high ceiling… Picks that owners love. Draws crowds at training camp. Not many people flock to see the first round center in action. … then a tackle and guard go down for 3 weeks, and by week 6 you lose another starter for the season…. and it’s back to being a dumpster fire again, while fans clamor on about how this team can never build a good o line. Pay attention to teams that win championships. Their line is NEVER good enough. They Always reload. If too deep at a position, trade them for high draft capital to a sorry ass desperate organization who always feels like they are ‘just a couple pieces away’ … when in actuality, they’re only a couple key injuries from being a 4 win team. Sounds familiar. I’ve said it in a couple other threads, obvious homerism aside, when in doubt just pick a lineman from UGA or Bama, or any of the other big boy schools. What is the percentage of early pick Bama and UGA linemen that are complete flops? How many UGA and Bama players just played in the SB? This past season would have been COMPLETELY different had this team not completely whiffed on the first 2 rounds. they did. First and second round picks are supposed to have the current starters looking in the help wanted pages. They are expected to come in compete for starting roles from day one. Any other talk is placating what was a flat out bad pick. Building teams are not allowed to whiff on first and second rounders. Period. Get lineman from big boy schools and reap the rewards. With this draft, I want the 5th round edge player they get to realize he’s the THIRD DE this team just took with their first 5 picks, and that he may be a long shot to even make the team, unless he really shows out. Only way I want to see an RB is if they scoop up an undrafted mauler. I wouldn’t even care if he had hands like tennis rackets. I want a sledge hammer. An early round skill position for this team is parking a Range Rover in front of double wide trailer.
