Panthers confirmed to be in Stafford discussion

Bridgewater and a 2nd would be awesome. I'd do that all day long. Unloading Bridgewater is like getting a mid-round pick back in return. -

Two 2nds. That's my ceiling as a rebuilding team for a 33 year old QB. That won't be enough. Which is why I hope we're not in the mix. -
Would you be happy with Leonard Williams in Carolina?

Yeah, those types have a phenomenal track record of paying off when they cash in on big money long-term deals... -
In a vacuum, sure. But without a QB they won't matter. We'll just be pushing off the hope of legitimately competing for another year.
-
Sounds like a plan for mediocrity to me.
-
That's a rough mock draft right there. All four elite QB prospects gone by #7. We end up with Sewell. Great pick in a vacuum. In reality, it just means Teddy Two Yards has a little more time to scan the field before throwing that checkdown.
-
Yeah, he's really hurt himself this week. He could've potentially been a day two picks had he played this year.
-
It's rough on a guy who opted out to come in and try to compete at QB in an all-star game type situation. I have a feeling if he could redo that decision he plays this year.

Woah. Big time catch from a former Rhule recruit TE.

Yes, but we have too many far bigger needs and not enough available cap space to justify throwing a big money contract at a DT. -
Shi Smith is helping himself at WR.
-
Yep. I'd watched a couple of his games a while back and was intrigued. Then I watched a couple more recently and was like WTF was I thinking?
-
Mond looks much better this half.
-
Yep. Easy to see why he mauled guys in college playing with an OT to his left and a C to his right who are both quality NFL prospects, but get him in one on one situations and NFL DTs are gonna eat him alive with quickness.
-
He's dressed but they said he'd play in an emergency situation only. He ain't playing.
-
Mond flashes intriguing talent, he's just not very good at playing QB. Ehlinger's arm is trash but he has moxie. I feel like if you combined the best of both you'd have an NFL QB but as they are I don't see it. Mond could potentially play a few years as a developmental #3 guy but I just don't think Ehlinger has NFL caliber talent.

Mac Jones being the most impressive QB of this bunch is saying absolutely nothing based on what I've seen so far.

I'd be very leery of giving Lamar $40M+ per season. These dud playoff performances have become the norm for him. He's 1-3 in the playoffs now. His completion percentage is almost 10 percentage points lower in the playoffs. He's only thrown 18 regular season INTs in 46 regular season games but he's thrown 5 in 4 playoff games vs. a mere 3 TDs. He only has one playoff game where he completed over 60% of his attempts and it's the only one the Ravens actually won - in large part because their D absolutely shut down the league leading opposing RB.
-
There's no way I'd make that trade. We'd still be in the same place of having one tackle and needing another one. Moton has shown promise at LT in the past too. Another thing to consider is that playing well at LT in the Ravens' offense isn't automatically translatable to other systems. They run less traditional passing plays than any other team in the league, probably a lot less. They were last in the league in pass attempts, completions, and yards.
-
I can't see a 24 year old OT coming off of a Pro Bowl season at LT getting traded for a 3rd rounder. If we could get him for a 3rd that's a complete no brainier IMO.
-
Would you trade down for this?
LinvilleGorge replied to SmokinwithWilly's topic in Carolina Panthers
IMO, if QB doesn't work out for us we almost HAVE to trade down. But I'm not trading down for current draft capital. I'm trading for '22 draft capital and I want a 1st. The rebuild will have officially been delayed a year and we need to tool up to go after a guy (Howell or Rattler) in '22. Take a flier on a non-1dt round QB and hope he pans out. Meanwhile, we're probably looking at another year of misery with Teddy and reminiscing of that glorious win over the WFT. -
If lack of loyalty pisses you off, you might as well quit watching the NFL. There's very, very little. If Watson is traded to a better situation, he has a better situation and he still has his contract. He's not trying to be another Archie Manning putting up great numbers for sorry teams and I don't blame him. A lot of fans also tend to forget how young a lot of these guys are. Watson is 25. He's a kid. He doesn't realize that, but he will in another 15 years or so when he looks back at which point he'll be retired. Athletes work on a completely different timeline than your average person. They're career is a lot shorter. They'll still be young in life when they're retired from this game. Watson has every right to demand a trade. The Texans have every right to try to convince him to honor his contract. And here we are. If he wants out bad enough, he'll get out. The Texans will get offers that will be more valuable to them than a highly disgruntled player in their locker room. This is the way these things always play out.
