Sorry-not about how much Rhule needs to be fired, but here is a thread that reveals the character of young players who bring it during times of adversity. Some of our youth decided to step it up Sunday and they played well. Hartsfield played lights out Sunday and seems to be settling into a role in the secondary playing the nickel position and at times, a third safety. He was targeted 5 times and surrendered 15 yards for a QB rating against rating of 64.6. Christensen is an inexperienced rookie who showed it at times Sunday, but all in all, he played his second respectable game at LT. Rookie LTs all tend to struggle, so there could be something in him. I hope Rhule plays him over the next two weeks. CJ Henderson, a player many here call a "bust" had a 49.6 QB rating when targeted, the lowest on the team and against the GOAT. We have reason to be optimistic about the secondary next season with Horn returning in 2022. I should note that Gilmore covered Brown and the other WRs were bench players, but CJ did well nonetheless and was (by far) the team's best CB Sunday (statistically). Shi Smith had 86 receiving yards. His QBs completed about half of their passes and averaged about 5 yards per target. Tecklenburg surrendered no sacks and only 2 pressures on 53 pass blocking snaps. The problem with the Panthers was once again the Guards, surrendering 3 sacks and 9 pressures on 53 snaps--that is a pressure from a guard's block every six snaps, and a sack every 19 snaps. Luvu had a solid game, combining with Shaq to have 4 tackles for loss or no gain. He has outplayed Carter when given the opportunity.

Seattle, with no first rounder, plays Detroit in Seattle this weekend. They have no incentive to tank and should win that game. The Bears and Giants play Sunday. The Giants (4-11) have a stronger SOS. If they win, the move behind us. If the Bears win, the stay behind us. If we lose out, we should be picking around 6th, barring a miracle upset frenzy ignited by wins from other 4-win teams. Tampa Bay has had a flurry of injuries of late and they may rest starters week 18. We have to lose to their bench and special teamers.

And Christensen will only get better with experience--Erving has played his best football.

Me too. Fitterer needs to draft for the future---
-
Wow. He sounds like a man trying to convince his wife not to leave him.

The only reason not to fire Rhule is money. Pure and simple.

Rhule's contract is not going to stand in the way of the Panther brand, stadium negotiations, and winning. It was a bad hire, and doing nothing about it is more costly than taking action asap. -
Brady Christensen just had the best game at LT of any Panther this season.

BC Did NOT give up a sack. He gave up 5 pressures (too many) but considering the circumstances, about what he should do when playing G all season. According to PFF: -
Brady Christensen just had the best game at LT of any Panther this season.

I agree. The reason I say that we might have our LT is not because he is as good as Gross--it is because he is improving and has the athleticism. Add another year of strength conditioning and experience, We can focus on interior OL--to me the bigger need. Christensen is a decent LT and should have been left there all season to develop. He did not play poorly today, all things considered. (This not to respond to you--to all who think they understand OL development. I saw smarts, good feet, etc. Once he lunged and Barrett ate his lunch--another time he fell--but for the most part, he was solid. I should add that most teams attack us in A and B gaps, however--the quickest path to the QB. -
The Saints could be a win, and Tampa Bay in week 11 could as well (resting starters)
-
It is just you--dont know what you see---oh, and I should add that It is anatomically correct from my perspective.

BC Played a solid game. Not perfect, but if he can do this again vs. New Orleans next week, I say we have our starting LT. -
I do not recall a victory in all black

For Panther fans in Tank Mode Atlanta (6-8) over Detroit (2-11-1): Detroit is unlikely to win 3 games this season, and Atlanta beats the Panthers in a tie-breaker (weaker Strength of Schedule), so they are less than one game ahead of the Panthers--a win of any kind pushes Atlanta (if they lose out) ahead of the Panthers. A Falcon win today puts them ahead of the Panthers by 2 games (assuming a Panther loss today) with 2 to play. LA Rams (10-4) over Minnesota (7-7): The Rams are the pick here because Tampa Bay needs to have a reason to play hard vs. the Panthers week 18. With Dallas, LA Rams, and Tampa Bay all one game behind Green Bay, a logjam creates a reason to win for the top 4 teams. NY Giants (4-10) over Philadelphia (7-7): A Panther loss today and a Giants win puts the Panthers ahead of the Giants for the 2022 draft (based on Strength of Schedule) with 2 to play. The Giants and Bears (4-10) play week 18, and both have stronger SOS than the Panthers, so any wins by a 4-win team are appreciated. Chicago (4-10) over Seattle (5-9): Seattle and the Panthers are tied with 5 wins with the Panthers getting the edge in a narrow tie breaker at the moment (Strength of schedule). The Bears' strength of schedule would favor the Panthers if they were tied at the end of day. Seattle plays Detroit in Seattle next week, so the Seahawks are likely to end the season with at least 6 wins--7 if they beat Chicago today. Hope for the Bears to win because it would move Carolina higher in the draft. NOTE: The Bears finish with the Giants and Vikings--so if the Panthers lose out and the Giants and Bears keep the stronger SOS, both could finish higher than the Panthers if all three finish 5-12. The Giants and Bears (4-10) play week 18, and both have stronger SOS than the Panthers, so any wins by a 4-win team are appreciated. Dallas (10-4) over Washington (6-8): This seems odd, but hear me out. Washington has a game lead over the Panthers with the stronger Strength of Schedule. WFT finishes with Philly and NY Giants. They are likely to get a win over the last two weeks. The Panthers best chance for a win could be vs. Tampa Bay resting players and avoiding injuries week 18. Dallas and Tampa Bay have identical 10-4 records (along with the Rams). We want the Bucs to have a reason to win, and Dallas/LA Rams/Tampa Bay and possibly Green Bay fighting for the best seeding favors teams playing hard week 18. Tampa Bay (10-4) over Carolina (5-9): I see losing out as acquiring draft Capital, giving us options on draft day. Yes we could win out and hang an 8-9 banner for 2021, or we could lose out and add a second round offensive lineman. I think we will trade back and grab a first rounder and a second rounder---possibly both OL. If Christensen plays well at LT (I hope he starts today) it could be that the Panthers grab a QB instead, so picking as high as possible gives us options. Any Panther win now is like kissing your sister--yes it was a female but no, it does not count. If you want Rhule gone, you want to put Tepper through three more weeks of losses.

I do not see them waiting a year for a QB. Maybe impulsive before building the OL, but they will bring in a new face at QB some how. But you are right--the OL SHOULD come first, but...
-
Cutting him saves us about what--$2m? Cam has surrendered 3 sacks this year (not sure how many games) but he has not been the weak spot on the OL--sadly enough. Cam can also play every position on the OL---he could save you a roster spot.

ESPN suggests 2 QBs for 2022 for the Panthers...

I hear that B. Christensen has been getting first team reps in practice because Cam Erving has been dinged up. While Erving has not been the most spectacular linemen on this team, his value is as a backup. If BC can step in and show that he has promise for 2022, that would be very important. With BC as a starter and Cam E. behind him, we could look to build other spots on the OL in free agency and the draft. A big game or two from BC, after his Washington performance (minus Chase Young), might just earn him the LT job in 2022. Imagine free agency and the draft if LT is not a need? Let's see what our depth can do vs. the Big Boys. This is obvious, but the final three games could be used to audition for 2022 needs. Play Brown at RG and let's see what he can do. We need to KNOW where our developmental players are entering the 2022 off season. I am tired of watching eliminated coaches playing for their jobs to win meaningless games. Turn this into a 3-game audition for Christensen (LT), Brown (RG), S. Smith (WR), Marshall (WR), Taylor (CB), Nixon (DT), Hoskins (DT) and Daryl Johnson (DE).

Could Cam be 2022 Taysom Hill for the Panthers?
MHS831 replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
Its sad, and its also business. Cam is electric and coming back was fun, but he needed a solid ground game, stud OL, and a good TE. He is wasting away here until that happens. -

And if he refuses, it tells us that he is not willing to be a backup. Go shop yourself and get back to us if we have not moved on. A 33-year old QB on a steep decline since 2018 is probably not worth the cap room it would take to keep him here and frankly, it would be stupid. -

And for all the people who cling to that sac like it held the answers to the universe's most complex enigmas--remember--you would have paid him $30m per on a $120m deal in 2019. If you think we are bad off now, imagine having Cam and still owing him $60m for 2022 and 2023. Cam would be a great backup who causes the opposition to plan for him every week. We would be good on the goal line. Can he carry a team for 4 quarters now? I have not seen it. Can he march a team down the field in a 2-minute drill? If you answered yes, when? -

MHS831 replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
He could be a distraction in the long run. I personally think Cam is done as a starter and he should too--when was the last time he was good (2017 or maybe 2018?), but he could add another 5 years to his football career at about $3-5m as a wildcat/option QB with throwing capabilities. -
I worry that these Tampa Bay injuries is going to lead to sitting the starters week 18 when we go there to play. I hope they have a reason to win.
-
something we should have started 2 years ago. But think about last season--every player in free agency (OL and QB) struggled before arriving here. We put all our eggs in one basket during year 2 of a rebuild. Stupid.
-
No I agree. Trying to guess what they will do. Desperate men with jobs on the line may not go C in the draft--but he is a beast and would anchor the ol for years.
