I am fine with whatever the win total. If it is 5 or 6 that is twice this year's total and it means Bryce played much better. Let's keep pounding. If it is only 2 then we have a really high draft pick and we swing again for the right QB draft pick to be our next Cam Newton. Consolation for the suffering. I won't venture we would win more than 6 games so there you go. Good news no matter what.

Would keeping Burns require another big D-line addition?
panthers55 replied to Donald LaFell's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think that 33 goes to the offense. Don't know if tight end or WR but one or the other. We will keep Burns and hopefully find a free agent who is ready to flourish but weren't on the right defense. I think linebacker is also a need as well as corner. Corners might be easier to find since we play so much zone they seem more plentiful that shut down corners who play man. -
Nicole Tepper on the proudest moment since owning the team….
panthers55 replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
It wasn't about grass it was that the field doesn't matter nor does the facilities or how players are treated if you are winning and you have the right players. Players want to win and play with other winners. Things like grass or turf are issues in Charlotte because we lose and suck and we bitch about everything. Apparently I didn't explain it well. -
Carolina Panthers will have trouble building roster for 2024
panthers55 replied to jayboogieman's topic in Carolina Panthers
The salary cap can be easily manipulated and it makes sense we do that to get cap room. Otherwise Burns has leverage in negotiating knowing we need his cap space which will be significant. Expect Moton to be restructured and suddenly we have cap space for what we want. If we show him we can operate without his space then signing him is more likely. Sure we might kick the can a little bit down the road out of necessity, but we don't need to tank this year. -
Nicole Tepper on the proudest moment since owning the team….
panthers55 replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
The minute I heard it, my first thought was that getting a grass stadium was a pipedream now if she is crowing about all the events which made me think they are about the money. They don't care about the players. Then again apparently KC routinely gets rated poorly on facilities and player engagement but keep winning. Apparently if you get the right players and coach and win a bunch, other factors like grass or turf tale a big backseat. -
Are we low-key tanking? Donnelly thinks we're half-tanking.

I doubt that would be enough to dump Canales. Tepper is going to have to show patience or his reputation will get even worse and nobody in their right mind would come here next. And if we suck again we get that top 10 draft pick to let Morgan and Canales their shot at picking a QB in the draft. But then the offense would be better able to support the next guy instead of what happened with Young. -
Morgan said that they are going to sign Luvu who wants to play here. He is Morgan's kind of player. Brown has another year before he becomes a free agent but he is big in the plans as well.
-
Burns bet on himself and lost. Will he be reasonable? I hope so. But the story is about upgrading some starters and depth. We had no answers when injuries hit. We had too many guys who didn't live up to their salaries. We need more hits like Luvu who blossom instead of rot when they get here. We need some draft picks who show up right away. But no matter the players, the staff have to be on the same page and maximizing the potential we do have.

Since Canales is calling plays his OC has to be good at teaching and implementing the offensive system and working with the quarterback. He was the assistant QB coach in 2021 with Seattle.
-
You know big wide receivers are high on our list of needs. Canales certainly saw how it helped Mayfield and literally made Wilson who he was.
-
Hard to know his plan if you didn't sit in the interviews. So I have no clue if he is the answer. Personally I would rather have a defensive head coach like the DC for Baltimore but then again I thought Reich would do better even though I wanted Wilks.

Tell me it isn't happening...and there is a zero % chance
panthers55 replied to CRA's topic in Carolina Panthers
There are 4 jobs left for HC and lots of candidates. So yeah we will get someone good. And you underestimate the value of an owner with deep pockets willing to spend cash over cap to secure the free agents you want. And assistants who get paid a ton to come here. -
Vrabel interviewing with carolina Thursday

It is pathetic that the above would look pretty awesome compared to 6 losing seasons in a row right now. -
Vrabel interviewing with carolina Thursday
panthers55 replied to jamos14's topic in Carolina Panthers
Vrabel has appeal for his leadership and emphasis on accountability and discipline. But he would need to find good offensive guys who can develop Young. Besides losing, Reich was fired in my opinion because he wasn't high on Young contrary to the public statements of support. Whoever we hire has to be all about developing Bryce Young or we won't pick them. The Teppers are all in on Young -
What made Wilson so great in Seattle was a good running game and receivers who were unbelievable making contested catches and diving catches on those rainbow lobs he always threw. Often it was impromptu and extending plays. When he went to Denver he wasn't and still isn't playing on a team built for him with receivers who can make him look good. He certainly isn't the one for Payton going forward. Maybe Canales best quality is adapting the offense to what the QB does best.

With conversation about bringing in someone from the outside to help Morgan manage the cap and negotiations I wonder where that leaves Samir who supposedly was to be interviewed for the GM job. https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/news/panthers-to-interview-samir-suleiman-for-gm-opening I haven't seen or heard anything. Is he interviewing elsewhere???

If Dan were just coming here from Buffalo we would be ecstatic. His record was solid. Who knows what went on in personnel matters or who made decisions? And honestly if the message in all this is that it needs to be different then the issues shouldn't be dragging up the past and complaining but discussing what needs to change and see how we attack it. There will be plenty of time to criticize if the results stay the same. I prefer to think of Dan as adaptable and able to change and learn at 45 to help turn things around. Like being a middle linebacker and watching film to get a strategy to execute on Sunday.

If you look at Morgan's body of work before coming here, he helped build both Seattle and the Bills into powerhouses. Then he comes here and we bottom out. What is the ingredient he had here and not in Seattle and Buffalo?? Tepper. So can Morgan learn from the last 3 years and be different going forward? Let's hope so for everyone's sake. In some ways being terrible can be a gift. If you are middle of the pack you tend to look at circumstances or lack of opportunities as the reason for where you are. When you really suck you realize it isn't one play or player but significant problems that need to be reworked. Number 1 in my book from a coaching point is matching your scheme to the players you have or getting the best players to play the scheme you want. But when Wilks turned us around last year he was simply playing a scheme our players are built for. Something Reich promptly changed to a spread which is great if your QB gets the ball out quickly and you have good receivers who can find holes or gain separation. Thomas tried to run more but use the same playbook which failed miserably. 2. Find a creative playcaller and stop being so predictable that I can figure out what we are going to do. Imagine how easy it is to dissect our offense by an opposing coordinator. Like having Young call off a play and go under center. What are we going to do? Run it? What else? Oh, maybe play action with 9 in the box and throw it to a receiver who should be singled on the outside. Then again if all receivers are in tight to block all you can do is run. 3. Since Young is going to be here, find a coach and OC who can actually build the offense designed for him instead of building an offense and sticking him in there. Something like what Miami did with Tua. I could go on but do this and maybe we win some games making it easy to tell Tepper to chill because you got this. I don't think owners need to be making decisions but you have to have confidence in your front office. If he trusts Dan and we get a good coach maybe we win some which helps keep Tepper at bay.

The line plays as a unit. When you have 6 different left guards and 7 right guards rotating in week to week and many are jags, retreads and rookies, how good can you look. Our line was awful but we had a tsunami of injuries. Bozeman was last man standing in the middle all season long. I am more concerned about Ekwonu than Bozeman

London wasn't close to that but you are right the Superbowl cost me every bit of that. Great memories though even if we lost. -
Panthers OFFICIALLY Announced to Play in Munich.
panthers55 replied to Panthercougar68's topic in Carolina Panthers
The London trip was great and the game was icing but not the reason to go or not go. We made a side trip to Paris one day so it was awesome. I am going to Munich and likely doing a sidetrip to the Netherlands or maybe Iceland to see the northern lights. I went to London with the Roaring Riot and they were great hosts. I saw lots of the sights and had a great time. Going to Munich with them as well. -
Not close. In the only game we saw Dalton play he was decisive, threw into a blitz, was quick with his throws and called audibles to beat the pressure. Things veteran quarterbacks know how to do. Things Bryce isn't doing. Young needs to see Dalton do more with the same group of players as a blueprint for what he should be doing. We fired our quarterback coach because they werent helping Bryce learn the spread offense and how to attack defenses. It is one thing to see it on a tablet and watch film of all the things you did wrong versus watching someone call the exact same play and execute it differently and more effectively.
-
On defense no and on offense used differently. We have road graders like 79 who don't pass block as well as they run block. Our scheme didn't fit our personnel and our lack of receiver talent.
-
Don't agree that any experience is positive for a player. Up until recently the norm was sitting rookies and letting them learn. Dalton is a veteran and can run the offense better. Having a rookie quarterback play some and then watch some and then play some more is ideal if the backup can teach the rookie a lot. This is exactly what we have. Young is regressing not progressing. Doing more of the same is David Carring him. A change right now makes sense with a focus next year to building around him. You aren't giving up so much as readjusting and giving him time to watch and learn. Meanwhile you change the scheme for Bryce. Our current scheme fits Dalton better than Bryce.
