I think the hammy will be an issue since apparently it is very tight. He uses a roller to stretch it out between series. But he is tough and as long as it doesn't tear he will give it his all. CMC at 75% is still pretty great.

I can see us on that list because we have a great defense, good special teams with a sure field goal kicker. On offense we have Christian, DJ, Robbie and several other players that are skilled. I have said this all season long. We dont need Superman anymore, we need a competent QB who can get the ball to our play makers while making good decisions and retaining the ball. Cam just has to make some plays and distribute the ball. He has more weapons than he has ever had. He doesnt have to carry the team on his back. As long as he does his job and let his team do theirs we could be a tough out the rest of the way.

Darnolds contract isnt terrible if he has some utility. We have paid guys 10s of millions after they were cut or injured. Sam was good and then very bad but I dont think the staff is so down on him like fans are. I would expect him to come in and compete for the starting job next offseason. Sitting the bench which he has never done might be good for him. Plus having a vet like Cam could help him as well. And lets be real, Cam is on an 8 game tryout. There is no guarantee he will be great either. Lets wait until the offseason to decide what we are going to do.

Sure glad we have a capologist who understands how things work. Giving up draft picks to trade him makes little sense. We will likely keep him and see what happens next year. Right now Cam isnt signed beyond this year. People are getting way ahead of themselves.

First Take - Cam is a Box Office Move
panthers55 replied to CPcavedweller's topic in Carolina Panthers
Seat revenue might be similar but merchandising, food revenues etc were going to take a huge hit and the stands would be empty of Panther fans. This was a win for Tepper whether we win or not. No one knows if Cam still has it or not but now he will get a chance. But for Tepper it is a no lose situation to bring him in. -
And that is totally what it was. A business decision to fill seats and energize the fan base. And if it works the Panthers look great. If it doesn't they have still have done what they can to make things better.

And we can beat that up from now to forever. Won't change anything.

I am not convinced there was much to eat crow about. In 2019 Cam had been injured for years and there was no reason to think he had much left. So we moved on. Cam showed folks he isnt done and played decently for NE. He only became the solution here when Darnold got hurt. Otherwise we wouldnt have looked that direction. Both Rhule and Fitterer have said they will do anything they can to make the team better. At this point he was the best option out there so the Panthers inquired and he was available. So they signed him. It wasnt hard to do and was really a no brainer. If he does well then everyone is happy and Rhule and Fitterer look great. If he sucks then they are no worse off but all the people bitching about how Cam left are now mollified that he got his chance. So really it didn't take much at all for Rhule to bring him in. The bigger issue will be what to do with Cam if he doesnt play great but doesnt suck. If we move on are folks going to be butt hurt again or will they be okay moving on. I personally hope he plays great and we dont have to keep shopping for a QB. But I dont agree it was hard to bring him in at all. In fact he killed several birds with one stone..

For his part I thought PJ played well. As much as we kicked Arizona's butt people forget they were 8-1 and their defense was only giving up right at 18 points a game. Does PJ need to.protect the ball better? Of course but this was his second start. I wouldnt be surprised if they dont platoon PJ and Cam to save a little Cam like we do with CMC. While Cam isnt a RB he surely takes a bunch of hits. I could see using them both based on who has the hot hand. That might be a way to extend Cam even if it is only 8 games.

Interested to see how he plays if he starts. Washington has a legitimate defense and Rivera knows Cam's strengths and weaknesses. But Cam should be well rested and fresh. Should be a good game. Let Cam start and see what he can do. We need to see how everyone plays and we have lots of decisions at the end of the year. Personally I hope Cam has a great day and shows he is back.

He did a good job and make the choice at QB more difficult next week.

Fitterer says " We'll have to do something with Sam. "

Already covered this ground repeatedly. Try to keep up. No one is comparing them as quarterbacks simply saying there is no reason to decide anything right now. Cam hasnt played a down for us yet this time around. Lets see how he does and then decide where to go. -

Again you are getting way ahead of things because of your love for Cam. As a Panther fan we all hope Cam does great and our QB woes are gone. But that is far from given and right now Darnold is already getting paid. He has not really gotten a chance to sit and learn from a veteran pro. He is our back up or starter depending on how Cam and PJ do the next 4 weeks. There is plenty of time to evaluate everything after this season is over. -
The Dolphins defense looks like a Ravens defense only faster. They are putting 7 rushers on the line confusing Jackson and filling all the run gaps smothering the Ravens rushing attack. They look like us. Going to be a tough matchup.

This is surely an interesting season. First the thrill of victory and then the agony of defeat and then Superman to the rescue. I wonder what else happens. Cam has energized the fanbase for sure and lets be real, what did we have to lose. As a Panther fan you have to hope he still has some magic left. I wonder if they will put in a small package for Cam like redzone running and passing given PJs redzone problems this Sunday.

The last few seasons have reminded me of a horror movie- Nightmare on Mint Street.

Rhule's Press Conference Irked Me
panthers55 replied to Little Goody Two Shoes's topic in Carolina Panthers
I know folks dont want to hear this but Tepper brought in Cam to fill seats. The price of tickets for the Washington game doubled right after the announcement. This was a no brainer. If Cam wins some games then the excitement is back and maybe we have a winning season. If he sucks we stiill fill seats as folks will want to see Cam not knowing if this is a long term deal or short term rental. -

Spoken what? That it is too early to be talking releasing someone at this point in the season. Lets see how Cam does and then after Darnold comes off IR we can decide what to do. Remember when we released Cam too early without giving him enough of a chance. Lets keep the pitchforks in the hay until after the season. -

Right and no one was comparing them as quarterbacks. What I was pointing out was that it is convenient to find the scapegoat to get rid of without addressing the real problem when they dumped Cam and didnt address the O line once again. Novel idea why not fix the line and then decide if the qbs you have are suddenly better. That would go for Cam, Darnold, PJ, Barkley, et al. -

Again why make any judgements until after the year. If Cam is great in this lineup then it is Darnold but if Cam has the same issue it might be the line and playcalling. So you let Cam play 4 games and then see who gives you the best chance to win the rest of the way. Besides Darnold could be a great backup who can win a game if necessary. Maybe sitting and watching will do him good. -

But if Cam is the starter then Darnold is a much better backup than anyone else when he comes back. Why would you do anything this year? Plenty of time to evaluate after the season is over. -

Think this is getting blown out of proportion. What we will do with Darnold is put him on IR and in 4 weeks see how Cam is doing. Darnold is signed through 2023. Those who were upset we moved too quickly from Cam seem to have no problem doing the same thing with Darnold. Maybe we should learn from history.- 162 replies

And if Tepper came in and started doing his best Jerry Jones impression it could be bad for our future. How many owners turn around teams with their meddling.....

Nah, he will be brought in to revitalize the running game now that Cam is back
