Not saying we want Bridgewater long term unless he seriously improves which is doubtful. But he is the perfect guy to mentor a rookie or even a vet coming from a different system. Teddy didn't look terrible until defenses realized he wouldn't uncork it. He knew the system and moved the ball. We had 3 receivers with 1000 yards. He just couldn't finish drives and keep the safeties back with over the top passing. Some reality is needed here.

Don't agree at all. One of the main reasons Bridgewater was brought in was because he knew the system and taught it to everyone else. You don't bring in a rookie into this system and expect them to pick it up in one off-season. We are on the hook for his money one way or the other. But it doesn't stop you from drafting a guy and bringing in a vet on a cheap rookie contract. You give up a roster spot by keeping 3 QBs but with a 17 game season you might need that many. Then you get rid of Teddy after this year and move on. But you don't get rid of the one QB who actually knows the most about Brady's system.

Now do that for every other SEC team and compare. Lots of guys gets drafted from the SEC which is why many see it as the top division. But were they stacked compared to Alabama which is the competition.

Of course. But for the SEC they didn't have the stacked roster that others did. But playing in the SEC is light years ahead of what Lance played against and why he is a better risk even though his stats were not other worldly.

Again I am not in the Mond or Lance crowd. I have said that I don't know if Lance will bust but he is a huge gamble in the first and it would be nuts to give up multiple picks to move up for him. I think that is pretty clear where I stand. And I said that I am not a big fan of multiple picks for Jones although he is the third best QB in my opinion which is informed by guys I think know what they are talking about. I claim no expertise butI do pay attention to those that do. And no that is not all Simms was critical about Lance but he gave him leeway because he only started 1 season and couldn't play this year. There is such a small body of work for a small school QB like Lance against anything approaching competition you can't say either way. Jones gets knocked for having superior talent around him helping him look better than he is But Lance supporters saying that ignore that NDSU has a huge talent edge over their competition as well. Lance didn't throw in tight windows and have to be that accurate. And none of that talent for or against would be starting in the SEC. And really do you think we would have this conversation or one about Jones if I hid behind anyone and didn't go against the grain at times.

Hill has been used as a gadget guy and hasn't really shown much but hasn't started at all. I would like to see him actually start a game and run and throw. At this point he hasn't justified the extension he got .

Agreed. But I don't trot mine out as the definitive word like you just did. As for group think among analysts, the reason that picking is so difficult and inexact is that guys like Lance get hyped and then suck because everyone gets on the bandwagon. I like analysts who are right most of the time like Chris Simms who agrees with me not the crowd who are often wrong.

Josh Norman says hi. Not only did Lance play at a much lower division but he started 1 year and played 1 game in the last year. How many qbs have ever come from NDSU. Yeah that would be Carson Wentz and he was never very good. Meanwhile BYU had Steve Young, Jim McMahon and currently Taysom Hill for the Saints among others.

So Lance played against who? Sure Mond was inconsistent. He also had mediocre talent around him and played in the toughest league in college. Meanwhile Lance dominates in a much lower division with and against talent who won't sniff the NFL. He didn't play but 1 game in 2021. If he were playing in the SEC I promise he wouldn't be talked about as a first rounder. I get they are both projects but moving up for Lance would be a huge mistake.

So help me out. He is the athletic dual threat QB everyone wants. He is exactly the same size as Lance with similar athleticism. Only he started 45 games in the SEC played in several bowl games and was MVP of the senior bowl. While Lance did little to nothing for a third tier team and didn't even run the 40 at his proday. The knock is the same, both somewhat of a project given the need to learn NFL defenses and make good decisions and not run at the sign of pressure. Tell me how Mond is a stretch in the first but Lance is worth giving up multiple firsts to move in the draft to secure. Maybe it is me, but that seems crazy logic. To me Lance isn't as good a prospect as Mond and is surely not so much better to justify multiple firsts. If anyone gives up multiple firsts for Lance I hope we aren't that stupid when we can get someone just as good staying right where we are or even moving down a bit.

Not even close. Wilson played for BYU who plays against other big time programs. Lance played for a small school and small time competition and didn't play but 1 game in over a year. The record is pretty clear. For every small school QB iprospect in the NFL who went on to a big career, there are tons who either didn't make it or never fulfilled their promise. Again I am not a huge fan of giving up multiple firsts for anyone but to do it for anyone else especially a project like Lance is nuts.

The push to give away multiple firsts for developmental guys like Lance is crazy. I could see staying at 8 and taking a shot with Lance or Jones but to me the only QB worth multiple firsts is Wilson. This is just getting crazy. Teams are so desperate for a starting QB that they are way over reaching for guys who in other years wouldnt be getting drafted in the top 10 for sure. And giving multiple firsts to move up. Speaks more to desperation than a truly outstanding class of QBs.

Running a prostyle offense against guys who aren't good enough to even make an SEC team and playing 1 game in the last 400 days hardly is convincing he can master an NFL offense. He has a good arm but it takes a lot more than that to be a starting QB in the NFL. I could see us taking him at 8. I just wouldn't be trading first rounders for him.

We have had too many free agency signings that looked good at the time that didn't pan out to get excited or upset. I am looking forward to the draft to see what we do. Plenty of time for praise or recriminations in the fall when we will be able to judge.

Sure there are. Few if any QBs throw 50 yards in the air. They throw 35 or 40 yards to a receiver in stride and he goes the other 20 yards. How many of those are there. Lots.

His arm is strong enough to throw it 40 yards in the air and he can make all the throws. He will develop more velocity as he improves in an NFL program physically and mentally. He won't be confused for being athletic but like Brees he is elusive in the pocket which is very important.

Like I said, you got a problem. You go on any post whether directed to you or not to say negative things about Jones. Your analogy is lame. The speed of the wide receiver is a huge part of his value. The 40 of a QB isn't. A slow wide receiver doesn't get drafted so they have to run. But QBs dont. They can claim they tweaked a hammy in practice. Easy. But the heart comment came from doing difficult things and staying longer and throwing with few breaks to show his endurance. He knows he is going in the first round no matter how he did. I think he is a competitive guy who wanted to show that the critics were wrong. I can respect that and give him some credit.

Most guys on their pro day set it up so they look good and don't do things that might expose their weaknesses. Jones did just the opposite. He was rolling out and throwing on the run. He was supposed to throw roughly 50 throws but by many accounts surpassed that by a lot. That shows heart and competitiveness. As for whether he is my favorite QB this draft, he isn't. Wilson is my favorite. Even more than Lawrence who is my second choice. Jones would be third on my list. So the advantage of Jones is he will be good and we could get him at 8. The question is whether Wilson would be so much better he would be worth 3 first rounders. I am actually thinking he might be. But I would have to rely on interviews and my expert scouts for guidance.

Not a lot. I heard some criticism as expected but overall more folks were impressed versus disappointed. Stats aren't what I look at but rather the qualities that make for a successful QB in the NFL little things like accuracy, good football knowledge, quick decisions, good elusiveness in the pocket, able to make all the throws. Has a good deep ball, etc. Just a couple of things that Jones had in abundance.

He had a great year in 2015. No question. I was very disappointed it was once and done. Most times QBs get MVP but that doesn't mean he was the best player. But I would say he made his case that year and I could go along with that. Still like his career he struggled with consistency from year to year and after the injury to. His shoulder he was never the same.

No they all werent. You see what you want to see. He did a very good job and put himself out there making difficult throws and showed a lot of heart and skill. If we draft him he will be a good one for us.
