A little insight on the Hakeem Nicks story

Seems the Colts had a little inside help...

When receiver Hakeem Nicks opted to sign with the Colts last month, a former Giants teammate helped close the deal.

Former Giants (and current Colts) running back Ahmad Bradshaw lobbied Nicks to choose Indy.

“I went to his house a week before his signing] and was just telling him how great it is over here,” Bradshaw told Stephen F. Holder of the Indianapolis Star.  “I think it kind of helped his decision.  I was really encouraging him to come over.”

Injury limited Bradshaw to three games (and two starts) for the Colts in 2013, his first year with the team.  Still, by reaching the end zone twice in those three games, Bradshaw scored, well, two more touchdowns that Nicks generated in 15 starts for the Giants.

Which means that it probably wasn’t that hard of a sell, because it’s not like Nicks had many other options.

Bradshaw helped deliver Nicks to the Colts

Story indicates Bradshaw also talked Nicks up to Coach Chuck Pagano.

I was never really that upset over us not getting Nicks (especially given that Gettleman seemed lukewarm on the idea) but I do think it's interesting to see this aspect of it now.

Wonder if Chase Blackburn or Domenik Hixon spoke to him about Carolina at all (best guess, probably not).

i'm pretty sure it was so nicks could hide behind the other receivers and not be in the spot light

I edited this so it would make sense somewhat.

Virtually the entire huddle was gushing for him to come here and be our #1 WR only 6 months ago. Now he is apparently not good enough?

Also, how does this change the fact that Hakeem Nicks said Gettleman felt he would be a better fit with a different team?

I don't pretend to have inside knowledge of the situation but as an unbiased viewer it seems that on one hand there was a team that had familiar faces lobbying to get Nicks there in a 3rd WR role. On the other hand was a former pro personnel guy that used to be in Nicks organization and was in dire need of a #1 WR and still told Nicks that he'd probably be best off somewhere else.

Doesn't seem like damage control to me. As fans we get to voice our opinions on message boards but ultimately our opinions mean fug all.

Gettleman had every opportunity to have this guy and didn't want him. I don't think it was because of some low ball offer as many here like to imply.

This.

I would have been thrilled with Nicks, but Gettleman knows a poo load more about Nicks than me or probably anyone else outside of the Giants organization.

    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
    • How do I activate said Krispy Kreme deal? I'm stoned man you can't be playing with me about this...
    • When the broadcast showed the two benches side by side during the last TV timeout, it was pretty obvious the whole operation is a shitshow. If I was the owner, I would play that clip, with commentary, on the jumbotron at MSG as I fired the coach, GM, President, the whole lot. Bring in your AHL leadership team, wholesale, to finish out the season and start from scratch next year.  Can't fire all the players and fold the season. But, hopefully decapitating the zombie will light a fire under the body and burn out the cancer of the roster. (It makes sense if you don't think about it...) There are obviously issues on the roster. But, you can't have the entire coaching staff completely tuned out with 5 minutes left in a 2 goal game this early in the season. And you can't trust the people that hired them to hire the next staff. If you trust your AHL GM/Scouts, let them run the deadline firesale.   ...     Please don't let the owner read any of this. Because, this poo is hilarous!
