Do we really even have the slightest clue about the guy?

No but guilty until proven innocent as far as I'm concerned. Guilty = bust. I don't think their going to cut him but right now it certainly looks like a bad pick. Hopefully he plays this year and can prove a lot of wrong.

It doesn't feel good because he was drafted higher than what us couch GMs think and then never saw the field, but it's way too early to call him a bust. Give him a chance to get on the field first....assuming he can.

We will see. It would be a very, very pleasant surprise if he somehow evolves into a solid player. I wouldn't bet it on though. Assuming he makes the team, it looks like it will take some bad luck and bad injuries for him to see the field. This is a big year for Silatolu IMHO as well. I didn't like that pick either. Amini looked like a big time reach as well. I wouldn't be surprised if both these guys aren't on the team in 2 years. I know this sounds negative but Im just callin it how I see it.

Didn't he show up hurt?

I don't remember him showing up hurt, but he didn't even make it through OTA's before getting a sore leg. Then he basically missed all of mini camp and training camp with a hamstring injury. I would love nothing more than for him to become a solid starter for us, but I'm not going to hold my breath, it does not look all that good so far. Time will tell.

I guess. I don't even know how he got hurt. Didn't he show up hurt?

That's what my point was earlier - a nagging strained hamstring is the injury he sustained, followed by the dreaded "setbacks"....I mean, a hamstring? I think what happened is that they just decided to "redshirt" him the first year. Not a good sign. I'm not a fan of drafting guys from inferior levels of college FB. They literally don't play anyone, the competition is absurd, and if the guy does have some NFL/D1 talent, that means he probably couldn't get into a D1 school because of off the field stuff. Stuff like drugs, grades, intelligence, or laziness. Not judging here just giving my .02

I really think if an athlete is really an exceptional/elite talent - the schools can find a way to get you in as long as you don't have a rap sheet the length of a dictionary. I think grades aren't as difficult to work around as long as the kid is genuinely trying and isn't trying to get into a school like Stanford, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, etc.

he was  being recruited by top schools in the south  but couldn't get in because of his SAT scores, which were low mainly because he had only been in the US for a few years at that point thanks to his parents winning a US visa lottery in ghana. the SAT isn't particularly immigrant friendly. he got his grades up to where he could have transferred, but he didn't leave valdosta st. because....well....he liked being there.

he absolutely dominated his competition while at valdosta, but was still very raw...again, because he was new to things here. he didn't grow up with american football. he got really big while there and worked his ass and gut off to get ready for the draft and probably stressed his body too much in a short amount of time which made him susceptible to injuries like a hamstring pull.

he needed polishing and coaching and education which is why they felt comfortable redshirting him. the potential is there for him to be really good. he's as strong as anyone and has incredibly long arms and is quick (albeit a bit awkward moving) for a man of his size. he's got great work ethic as well. he's pretty much a blank slate as a prospect, but a great canvas to work with from what i can see. coaching and then experience are the only things he's lacking. the rest is pretty much everything you would want in a lineman. i wouldn't read too much into his going on IR last year. i don't think he was expected to be a first year contributor, although they probably would have liked that. he was definitely a project. will he pay off? i dunno, but i think it's worth seeing through.

    • Very True--and I am a former HS English teacher.
    • Not a Moore fan-but he had a few good games last year-but I want players that scare you--Renfrow's route running and intelligence, Legette's size, speed, and strength, AT's intelligence and route running, Coker's body control, strong hands, and abilty to win contested catches, and TMac's size, body control, and ability to find soft spots in zone coverages.  Horn gives them the ability to stretch the field and he plays special teams.   Moore has a nice smile and can dance.  He filled in well last season, but to get better as a team, you have to upgrade your players.  I think Moore is a bottom of the roster guy who got bumped when we drafted 2 WRs and signed a legit free agent.  Here is the thing--TMac makes us better because he is great against the zone--man?  Good luck with that.  AT's role can be reduced, and that is probably a good thing.  He can specialize in situational football. Coker?  Just getting started. XL?  Just getting started.  Drafting TMac was probably a bit of a wake up call, but XL will be better as the 2. Renfrow?  I see him splitting reps with AT--keeping both fresh and giving different looks. Horn?  Watch the safety cheat his side when he is in the game--I see a young Steve Smith type in him, but he has yet to play a game.  I hear that Morgan loves him.
