Lets Talk Amini

Recommended Posts

Don't really see Amini as a LT. Never know I suppose. Personally think Chandler will surprise some people. Kalil even eluded to the weight he's already gained & the dedication he has. Expect him to be a present surprise come training camp. Gary Williams has always had talent just every time he's about to be a starter he gets hurt & sets him back. Still hope we bring Wharton back really started playing well towards the end of the season & just adds good depth with the ability to teach the youngsters. Health is the key for the line & especially Amini has the talent ,can pull & gets to the second level very good. Thought he was really coming into his own before the injury. I felt like I saw a future pro bowler in the making, but that's me. If he stays healthy I expect him to start hitting form & excelling by the bye week. As for Bell just grab your Bible & Pray!

I understand why people would look at our roster and think "damn we need Amini at LT". But he has the potential to develop into a great guard. Why would you want to make him a mediocre tackle? All those plays where he pulls and makes a big block are valuable to us. If you watch the 49ers tape our line was so beat up, old, and fat we were zone blocking.

Our line isnt in the shape most think. We would be fine to get thomas in say the 3rd and Henderson later.

So....we had a mediocre line last season....Lost our all-pro LT to retirement...still have a terrible RT in Bell....and both G's are coming off season long injuries....and you think we will be fine with two later round utility guys?

Crazy

Amini is playing like a guy drafted in the second, which is a good thing. If he didn't get injured last year he would be recognized a lot more as a good/great guard. I'm happy with the choice to draft him

IT'S NOT HIS RUN BLOCKING THAT IS A PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT'S HIS PASS BLOCKING!!!!!!!

Please god people watch the entire games.  He is an awesome run blocker but he gets Cam killed in a lot of pass blocking situations.  It doesn't stand out as much because we don't pass the ball as much.  But in pass situations if anyone stunts they get free run at Cam.  He does not seem to hold his blocks when he can't fire off on people as he does in run blocking situations.  Can he improve?  Certainly.  But he is not a good/great guard.  My god.....  you people kill me.

Considering that we only lost our LT and yes amini is returning along with unproven kug. We were ok with chandler who played decent enuff to be give another shot at starting. Not to mention Having the league leader at sacks avoid at qb kind of mutes the mediocre line that we have. yes i think we would be fine with sentrel henderson and brandon thomas. What's not fine is having a all pro weapon at qb and wasting his best years with the"we don't need a number 1 wr approach".

I've never seen a team do less to help there star qb. Rbs are in their twilight years and olsen is slightly above average. The skilled position players are in much worse shape in my opinion than being down one player on the offensive line. Basically your saying one 33 year old lineman was more valuable than 4 wrs that you lost/never had.

after whole year away from football and weight training while rehabbing from the worst injury on sports, esp the worst for 315-lb linemen, Aminu is a question mark until he gets back on the field. If he is able to return to football (and chances are likely he will), it will still take him another year to get back into early 2013 form. And his 2013 form is a question mark because he only played 3 games. That is too small of a sample size to draw any conclusions. Heck if you based our season on those 3 games it would look like we would have had a losing season. Finally, you game-plan and scheme to the abilities of your players. Having an All-Pro guard would allow us to do a lot more things that we couldn't do with Aminu because you game-plan and scheme to the ability of your players.

Getting James in the first won't be a problem, because that would be a HUGE reach.

I dont think it's as huge of a reach as you may think. The guy could be a day one starter at RT.

Who is this Aminu you speak of?

Chill out! Has the potential to be great & was showing signs every game of having it click. Your lack of comprehension amazes me.

Step 1:  Don't use youtube as a be all end of all of evaluation

Step 2: Tape games on tivo or get NFL rewind or (can't mention here website).

Step 3: Watch Amini in pass block situations

Step 4: Evaluate your "potential to be great" on what he currently is now.

Step 5: Read my post again in that context

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
