And has us 2nd in the NFC South behind Tampa.

Carolina Panthers

28. Kelvin Benjamin, wide receiver, Florida State.
60. Kony Ealy, defensive lineman, Missouri.
92. Trai Turner, guard, LSU.
128. Tre Boston, defensive back, North Carolina.
148. Bene Benwikere, cornerback, San Jose State.
204. Tyler Gaffney, running back, Stanford.

Overview: Dave Gettleman's second draft as Panthers GM began with groans over Benjamin, whom many seem to have already decided is a bust. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound jump-ball specialist will get every opportunity to shine as Cam Newton's "X" receiver. Regardless of how you feel about his first-rounder, Gettleman did an excellent job of matching need with value for the rest of his draft. A Michael Bennett-type player, Ealy replaces Frank Alexander as the Panthers' No. 3 end, and can rush from the interior on passing downs. A powerful, high-ceiling drive blocker, Turner could be Carolina's Week 1 starting right guard. Boston and Benwikere may have fallen in the draft over "tweener" concerns, but both offer pro-ready traits and add much-needed talent to a weak secondary. I wasn't a fan of Gaffney's tape, but he can pass protect and get what's blocked. I still expect 2014 regression from the Panthers -- and the offensive line remains a pretty glaring concern, particularly at left tackle -- but I'm guessing I liked Gettleman's class a little more than most.

Grade: B-

Personally, I'm not as big of a fan of Tampa's draft because they showed NO concern about any problems on defense that they have, selecting not a single defensive player.

i guess BPA is bullshit to everyone. guess we gotta reach for need from now on guys, like hurney did.

LT wasnt fugging there in the 2nd. you think a srub rookie 3rd tier LT will upgrade over Bell/Chandler or a FA? June cuts to come folks.

seriously. we were truly looking at another poo LT to take in the 2nd. so instead of getting atop tier De that will help with cap we would be adding another question mark to the LT equasion. the scrub we would have selected there wouldnt have solved that problem. would have STILL been a majr weak spot

Yeh...still puzzled over the Gaffney pick.

why? wana go LT?

Double trouble is gone folks. mad we cant get rid of those contracts? well here you go. a low risk 6th round pick.

I just dont get it. why hate this pick? its another step towards allowing us more cap. Barner Gaffney is our new, cheap double trouble and i bet you they can have the same production. Dwill and stew are paid way way too much for whats on the field

Turner "could" be a starter? Umm. Try will be a starter.

Remember Duke Robinson?  Everything though he would start immediately, but was a bust.

tampa's draft was bad because it didn't address needs, but ours was because it was bpa based and not need based?

Morgan Moses would not of been a scrub OT pick. But I still like the Ealy pick

You don't think there were any BPAs that happened to be defensive players EVERY TIME Tampa was on the clock?

it could happen. that's the risk of bpa. when it happens you got to trust that board, right? even if it's something that you don't need, you got to trust that almighty board or you'll go down as a bad GM that reaches for  (addresses) needs in the draft and we can't have that, can we? no sir!!!!! no situational thinking allowed. youve got to obey that board and let it make all the decisions for you. so what if you end up with a very lopsided draft and glaring holes...as long as you don't think about what your team needs because thats a sign of weakness and ineptitude.

    • I would write “give remmers tight end help” on a yellow sticky note and stuck it in shulas playbook the night before superbowl 50.
    • And don’t worry about Bryce he will be great… Peyton Manning had a horrible rookie year too 😂
    • Nothing wrong with it at all until you start telling others they are bad fans or not fans. But you are the good fan because you never say negative stuff about the team.    I did many years of that type of uninformed fanning because there really was no info and coverage like there is with the internet.    I mean, I used to go to the store and get Street and Smith’s annual football issue. That was about the extent of what you could get if you didn’t live in a big city with sportswriters covering and reporting.  There was no video to look at or replay the games and if you didn’t live in the market you could only rarely see your football team play.    TI have fanned since being a kid in the early 1960s, and as late as 1995 - ‘97 I lived in Atlanta and good luck getting more than 3 or 4 games a year on TV. No radio either. No print coverage outside of an AP recap and box unless they played Atlanta.  People today that have always had the network connection don’t know.    I wasn’t very educated about the Panthers until I finally got internet.
