Cowboys trying to replace Lee with Urlacher?

Recommended Posts

When discussing the immediate aftermath of the Sean Lee injury, one of the names mentioned was former Saints middle linebackerJonathan Vilma.

Ed Werder of ESPN adds another more interesting — and more experienced — name to the pile, mentioning that Brian Urlacher is on the list of players the Cowboys will consider.

Now, consider is a broad word. Lots of teams consider lots of stuff. But if the Cowboys are looking for a two-down inside linebacker, there are probably worse options.

Urlacher played for FOX last year, after the Bears let him walk and no one else offered him enough money to keep playing.

If he’s in shape and prepared to go through the football grind again (and that’s a real if), Urlacher would be interesting.

His skills were nearly perfectly suited for the middle linebacker’s job in the Tampa 2 defense Rod Marinelli’s running for the Cowboys.

And while there’s no indication if Urlacher even wants to come back, it’s the kind of name hire that would please the owner, who ginned up considerable attention for himself with his infatuation with a certain Jonathan Football earlier this spring.

Urlacher is one of my favorite non-Panther defensive players of all time. Loved watching that guy play. Not sure he has much left in the tank though.

And Manziel is your favorite QB of all time.

    • damn I wish somebody would sign him. This has been going on for weeks.    I think if the team wanted to sign him we probably would have heard something about interest on our part.    Or any TE. It looks like they have set that room. And we have taken guys two years running, a guy like this would be blocking them. We need to see if they have it or not. And we should see if Tremble is gonna ever do anything.      In general, with the TEs
    • Dude, there aren’t rose colored glasses big enough for you to call this “not a bad draft.” BC was not a good pick. He was taken with the 6th pick in round 3 and he’s been a backup OL. Tremble also wasn’t a win. Another 3rd rounder who’s easily replaced. Only reason either of them started games is because of injuries or a lack of a better starter. Chuba’s got heart but he’s had one solid year behind a solid run blocking unit. Other than that he’s underwhelmed and like we saw with Dowdle and Foreman, it’s not hard to find cheap pickups who perform as well. Horn has been a good starter but honestly that draft had so many solid starters we could have taken. With as many picks as we had, him and Chuba is absolutely a bad draft. We needed OL and BC and Brown was a terrible effort. You clearly didn’t watch the Senior Bowl if you thought Brown had a chance in the NFL. The huddle draft folks wanted Humphrey and Smith and instead we got crap and Mahomes was the winner.
