Isaiah Austin anyone?

WOW!!

At 24 not at 9.

But a shot blocking player besides Al who can hit outside shots will be perfect.

He also has great ball handling skills for his size.

Yes he needs to add weight and muscle but at 24 his skill sets and upside could be a steal.

He's a little too raw (and skinny) for me. I know adding weight sounds like it's easy but it's incredibly hard at the professional level. With at least two games a week and sometimes three, plus at least two days of practice; he's going to work off everything he puts on.

I'd rather just take Bachynski in the second round. He has a more prototypical NBA center type game and his body is more 'NBA ready' and you wouldn't have to use a first round pick on him.

To be honest, it was a mistake for Austin to come out because there is a decent chance that he may not even go in the first round. DraftExpress has him going 37 to the Raptors.

Sorry for the poor music choice, but here is Bachynski. Bachynski is 7-2/258 lbs with a 29 inch no step vert (same as Nik Stauskas), and a standing reach of 9'0.5". Good luck getting a shot of against him.

No that guy is a low post 5. I can see Austin as a stretch 4. He has shooting range ball handling skills and quick foot work. These 2 are not the same player.

Austin could play with AL on the floor at the same time. Your guy is a straight up 5 him and AL work in the same area.

Yeah that's the point, he would be drafted to be a legit backup center to Al.

I don't see the need to draft a stretch four unless he's good enough to start over Zeller, Austin is clearly not. He's another project player and in a draft this deep you don't have to draft a project player at 24.

Why not just get a solid backup for MKG like Early or a backup for Kemba like Napier, or potential starter in Hairston?

Austin just doesn't fit here.

Or...

If you're really on the whole idea of adding a stretch four, why not look at Dwight Powell. He doesn't have quite the upside that Austin has but you also aren't using a first round pick on a very risky player.

Powell has good size (6-11/234 lbs), good athleticism (35 inch max vert), can stretch the floor with the three ball, and play down low.

By the way, Powell will be in Charlotte tomorrow for a workout with the Hornets.

DraftExpress currently has Powell going 51st overall to Dallas.

I think the 76ers should draft him in the 2nd round. They have to many draft picks anyways that they are not going to be able to bring some of them on the team. Sign him and then release him. Let him get the signing bonus to go back to school and finish his degree. Alot like Seattle did with one of their draft picks.

They are not losing out on much doing this and would be a great PR move for them,

I couldnt watch his interview...too see a kid work so hard to make it and learn his dreams of playing bball are done after proving he is an NBA caliber guy.. Not even an overseas career.

Those tears hurt me I cant imagine how he feels. ESPN putting that heartbreak on air was awful bc there was nothing to it except seeing him speechless and heartbroken.

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
