Some casual observations:

  • We spend more on DEs than anyone in the league.
  • We're in the top 3 with the Vikings and Eagles at most spent on RBs in the league.
  • We're in the top 5 with the Colts, Lions, Dolphins and Chiefs at least spent on O-Linemen in the league.
  • We're in the top 4 with the Cowboys, Bills and Texans at the most dead money in the league.

Thoughts?

Too bad we don't have the running production that the Eagles do. If we did we'd have the Lombardi right now and Smitty may have retired and not been cut... F*ckin' Marty.

They use an entirely different offensive scheme... I have no idea how you can compare the two.

You can compare the two because we both pay very similar amounts for our running backs... And production should be on par with pay regardless of the scheme. We are paying two sh*tty/average backs (production wise currently) the same as they are paying arguably the best back in the league in McCoy and their depth which is probably better than ours considering how badly we got spanked by Bryce Brown the season before last (we won but he got like 250 yards or something).

Now this is very true, but honestly the Eagles don't have a top 5 o-line. Kelce and Peters were both coming off of injury and didn't play at an all-pro level, Mathis was good yes, but Lane Johnson on the right was inconsistent and terrible, and the other guard was pretty mediocre and at times bad. The fact of the matter is we are paying the same amount of money to DeAngelo and Stew who don't do crap as they are to McCoy who is arguably the best back in the league and Sproles who is an elite receiving threat and all their depth they have at RB. Forget production, their group of backs is 10 times as good as ours. Yeah, Stew has talent and DeAngelo has been solid throughout his career, but Stew injured has killed us and they haven't done anything. If we swapped all of our running backs with the Eagles' running backs we'd have a better run game than them. In my opinion.

They might not have a top 5 OLine but it's still a hell of a lot better than ours... I'd take the combo of a healthy JStew and DWill over a healthy McCoy and Sproles.

JStew gives you the power running and DWill is the faster back.. Where as Philly has two shifty backs (yes McCoy is a top 3 RB in the league)

That's either homer-ism or insanity. I'd take LeSean McCoy alone over Jstew and Dwill and I'd pay him twice as much as I'd pay the combination of those two. LeSean McCoy was that entire offense last year. The dude is a monster and truly a game changer. If you watched Eagles' games, you'd have seen that McCoy created so many plays in the backfield where he should've been down for a loss or no gain and ended up with 10+ yards, and his line had nothing to do with that. McCoy is like a Bo Jackson or Barry Sanders (not quite as good) in today's league. DeAngelo is old and Stewart is mr. exercise bike. And add in Sproles out of the backfield for the receiving game, just another weapon. And I know the Eagles don't have Bryce Brown any more but they are paying him and he is honestly better than both Stew and Williams at this point. Chris Polk is added depth. Yes their line is better... But McCoy is also an elite talent that Stew and Will don't even come close to at this point in their careers. I'd rather have Double Trouble in their prime, but they aren't in their prime now.

Truth is that teams have to spend all their cap space so it is really deciding how to shuffle the pie pieces.  We spend a ton on running backs and DEs.  Other teams spend a ton on quarterbacks or receivers or a secondary and on and on.  Sure we spend too much on running backs but out of 130 million it is less than 10% which is not that ridiculous if Stewart returns to form and we actually have a very productive running game.  It won't make up for the money but will justify it better.

In 2 years it will be the huge price we pay Cam and then Kuechly and then Star or whoever else we pick up.

I can't figure out if this is just another thread to bitch or moan or if there is a point.

I didn't say I didn't want Shaddy... I just said if I could pick between the duo or core of RB's I'd go with ours. If Shady goes down can Polk or Sproles have a successful season? Now if they still had Brice Brown it'd be a tougher choice

Did somebody just say they would take D-Will and J-Stew over Shady and Sproles? Shoot, I would straight up trade D-Will, J-Stew, and even Tolbert just to get Shady, even though I love Tolbert. Think of Cam and LeSean McCoy in the backfield!! Made me want to fap just thinking about it.

    • These are the three deep throw attempts that Will Levis made in week 12. His first one is a beauty; Levis and Westbrook-Ikhine gets the safety to bite on a deep dig only to go over the top for the score. His second throw is another beauty: a crosser to Calvin Ridley reminiscent of Bryce to XL (though Ridley has noticeably more separation on his route). His third and final deep shot was an incompletion from his own endzone on 3rd & 14 with pressure coming down on him (to me, this seems like a solid throw).   Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-02.mp4 Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-01.mp4 Film Room Playlist NFL Pro.mp4 Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-01.mp4 Levis took half of the deep shots that Young did. The differences are: Ridley had much better separation than XL, which is why his deep crosser turned into a 63yd play since he was able to scamper for another 15+ after the catch. Westbrook-Ikhine holds on to his TD pass. Bryce had to throw one away to preserve time for a field goal. Bryce had two more throws that were incomplete due to the WR Are we really holding the three WR errors and clock management decision against Bryce in order to say that Will was better throwing deep in week 12? That's not passing the eye test nor is it confirmed by the data.
    • If you go on the PUP list before the season starts, you are gone for the year. If you start the year on the PUP list then you can get off of it. Kind of semantics, but we are putting him on the PUP list now which is before week 1, that’s why people who come off of it aren’t really on the PUP list until week 1, hence you usually hear right before the season that they are “starting the year” on the PUP list. I think PUP list and IR may basically be the serve the same purpose now because you also sometimes hear that if a player is added to the IR before week 1 that they aren’t eligible to come off the IR list for the entire year. Now, everyone added to IR (post week 1) can come off after 4 (or more) games so the PUP list is meaningless since it’s 6 games and starts at week 1. Anyone added to PUP or IR in the preseason is gone for the year.
    • I saw Brooks maybe a few weeks ago, he was walking pretty normally. of course he wasnt running, jumping and cutting.
