PJ's Agent not certified

Yes it is a real thing. Potential draftees are not members of the NBAPA until after they sign their first contract.

The issue of verifying certification can be confusing for these guys coming out of college. So much so that some pro leagues waive agent certification for rookie contracts, and it only applies for veterans.

The NBAPA regulations and even the Sporting News article both say that it is the responsibility of the team to verify certification before negotiating a contract.

The NBAPA is in charge of the background checks for the certification that they then send to the teams.

The teams are given updated lists of certified agents every 2 weeks to help them with this.

There is a reason that the teams are subject to fines for this and not the players.

However, I also think that given PJ"s checkered past it would have made more sense for him to have hired a more experienced agent, and in doing so may have prevented all of this from happening, including the YMCA stuff.

Before contract negotiations. Which hasn't happened yet right?? So right now and a year ago it was on PJ to have legitimate representation.

I am being perfectly honest and to the point. You do not commit a crime you do not have to worry.

Well people have been wrongfully convicted so there is that possibility.

Either way, I am not crucifying PJ until given reason.

At that point, you'll be using excuses, instead. That's what homers do.

PJ was likely lied to. He is likely more the victim here than the culprit.

If you try really really hard you could find a way to blame PJ, but you would have to be pretty desperate to disparage him for every little thing.

As far as the agent thing.

I don't think it's uncommon to do background checks on agents.

Most agents have tons of clients so the familiarity is there. With P.J.'s agent, the familiarity is not there (as he only has one client).

That is a big part of the problem.

Ok then we can agree PJ and his famliy might be dumb asses??

How do you not check if your representation can actually represent you??

Come on Tee....you got enough experience with high level ball that you should know there's more to it than that. I was pretty close to some guys in John Wall's camp. They didn't become his agent but they certainly were taken care of. Oh....and they were from Greensboro too. Not a coincidence.

Where? He isn't a member of the NBAPA until he signs his first contrqct so they can't help. There are a few online databases I think, but they cost money and usually unreliable.

You guys are being a little too harsh. A lot of 18-21 year olds don't have all the answers, or would even know where to start.

Which, for the 100th time is why, the teams are responsible for verification

I was pretty good, but not that good. Never really dealt with agency or handlers.

It is too bad that PJ has to play for a team whose large portion of fans can't get far enough out of their collegiate allegiance's assholes to ever give him a fair shake.

You guys are working very hard to make sure this is PJs fault. I get it with some of the other stuff, but on this one it is clear that you won't even accept the NBAPA rules in order to disparage him.

    • The Athletic posted their goalie rankings for the season... The description of the tiers are as follows... Where would you rank Freddie and Pyotr? And don't cheat and look up the article. I'll post their ranks and the link in a bit.
    • Refs will be in their pocket. Always have to account for that. They are 20th in rush defense. They currently have the worst pass defense in the league. I mean I want to say even Bryce could at least put up 250 or more passing yards given that but man he looked BAD when the pocket collapsed against Miami and they had the 20th pass defense. Just can't expect to consistently get clean pockets like that in this league even with the better OL's. I'd say with this being a home game hopefully our guys will be motivated regardless. We certainly seem to play much better at home. We'll see.
    • They'd never do it, because it really would be insane to do, but if I'm the Commanders, I'd seriously consider trading Daniels after this season, especially as he'd get a HUGE return for him. He's RG3 part 2, with his body type and style of game, I just can't see how he holds up long term, he's going to end up having a seriously injury prone career. It would take some massive balls (or pure insanity) to pull the trigger on trading him, but I do think 5 years from now it would be looked back upon as a smart trade.
