Hornets Sign Marvin Williams

Recommended Posts

My bad lol.

Yes you can (and that's the only option). My post was more in regards to Chuck trying to replace Kemba with Dragic as well as signing Lance.

Financially we couldn't make that work.

Thanks I thought I was going crazy but I thought we could do that. Soooo being that we could would ya do it?

You should strongly consider a different career path.

Don't be surprised, if he isn't qualified.

Jefferson was playing on a bum wheel in the playoffs and Biyombo was still only seeing 7 minutes per game (that's not enough to be an impactful player).

By the way try and add for flavor to the conversation instead of trying to poke fun at me.

I'm actually doing very well for myself right now. No complaints here.

I also asked this question in the other post but never got an answer.

- Also explain to me how you are getting rid of Hendo? I've seen everyone say, "just trade Hendo", "we can trade Henderson for him", "get rid of Hendo"...

- In reality, Henderson's value is so low that Orlando took back garbage for Afflao rather than taking on Henderson's contract.

Not to mention, if I recall correctly he has 2 years left on his contract. You can't just dump him like you can in football (with some contracts). So even if you trade him, you are going to have to likely take back most of the money of his contract in some way, so you aren't saving much if any money.

Henderson is likely here for at least one more season even if we find some way to sign Stephenson. Unless we trade him for a back up PG or something

I find it funny that me and you (two UNC fans) have to stick up for Henderson on this board lol.

The salary cap increases thanks to the new TV deal in 2 years. That's why LeBron only signed with Cleveland for 2 years. He can re-up and get a larger max deal thanks to a larger salary cap.

Overpay now so you'll have lots of salary coming off the books when the new deal kicks in and the cap space league-wide increases. Al, Gerald, and now Marvin will be off the books in 2016.

Steph Curry is on the market that year. You want optimism? There's your optimism.

I wish there was a way to place an actual age limit for forums on the internet.

You know posters like SuperJ are like 16 tops.

You know I'm 15 and I have received pretty respectable comments from other Huddlers. Let's not apply that to everyone because I love the Huddle

So let me get this straight.. some idiot chiming in on every GD post with disdain and 'know-it-all' making it known he's a 2 bit sports management major is the end all be all?  Good for you.  I received my undergrad in philosophy and physics, double majored,  and my MPhys at York.  You are annoying.  Folks like you are the reason we are mocked and ridiculed in other boards.  I made this account a couple days ago hoping, practically begging for the nonobjective inside perspective without the asinine fools proclaiming to be the Queen City Schwab.  And I'll delete my account never quite understanding how someone will go on the Charlotte Hornets message board flaunting a degree (not even attained) in 'Sports Management'.  LOL.  Good riddance.  And the best of luck with that sports management degree, kid.

True.

If we're going to overpay and get close to the tax, this is the year to do it.

Next year we can just offer a MLE deal and bi-annual deal to fill out the roster along with our draft picks.

    • Congratulations do they know who the father is?
    • In my opinion Fitterer was probably right about not paying McCaffrey. Now not wanting to "pay RBs" in my opinion isn't something you want to set in stone, to me it all comes down to the individual.
    • Maybe I'm just not understanding, but everywhere that I have read says that signing bonuses go against the cap prorated by as much as five years. The following example uses Andrew Luck's rookie contract as an example. "Take Andrew Luck, the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Luck signed a four-year contract with the Colts worth $22.1 million and included a $14.5 million signing bonus. Rather than a $14.5 million cap hit in 2012, the Colts spread out his signing bonus over the life of his contract. The hit against the cap would be $3.625 million per year over four years instead of a direct cap hit of $14.5 million directly in 2012. This gave the Colts more leverage and cap flexibility in signing other players." https://www.the33rdteam.com/nfl-signing-bonuses-explained/ I don't know why some of you think that signing bonuses aren't counted against the cap over the length of the contract, but whatever.   "The bonus with a signing is usually the most garish aspect of a rookie contract. Bonus is the immediate cash players receive when they ink a deal. It factors into the cap, but only for the whole contract duration, in terms of salary cap calculations. In the case of Bryce Young’s $24.6 million signing bonus, that’s prorated to approximately $6.15 million per season over a four-year deal. This format allows teams to handle the cap and provides rookies with some short-term fiscal stability, which is important given the high injury risk in this league." https://collegefootballnetwork.com/how-rookie-contracts-work-in-the-nfl/ I understand how signing bonuses can be a useful tool in order to manage the cap, and as one of the article suggests, signing bonuses may become important if you have a tight cap, but the bill is always going to come due. I'm not necessarily referring to you Tuka, but it seems to me that others simply don't want to understand that fact which is why they're reacting to what I'm saying negatively. How odd. In any event, I have a better general understanding of why signing bonuses are used now, and it's generally to fit salaries under the cap. Surely players, whether they be rookies or not, love a signing bonus because they get a good portion of their money up front. This in turn gives them more security and probably amounts to tax benefits as well. I also understand why teams would not want to use signing bonuses, particularly for players or draftees who have a higher probability of being gone before a contract even ends.
