Interesting nugget right here......

It would make zero sense, logically, to sign Roberts before you go after Lance Stephenson, if you planned to. Anyone should know that's true. That's what I was arguing.

Wby not?. I am missing your logic. We have the exact same amount of spending room we had before the signing

When I see "CHA would wait to sign him to keep open as much space as possible" I interpret that as meaning they are waiting to sign him for some reason, and if they didn't "wait" to sign him, they wouldn't have the same amount of spending room.

It means you can sign him and go over the cap. So if we spend all the money under the cap he signs last even though we have no cap room.

You need to do it I BELIVE when you still have cap space. Not sure about that, but in terms of pursuing Lance it doesn't affect that at all

You are waiting to sign him so you can do something else first. After you do that, then you can sign him over the cap. I know that. That's why I've said everything I've said, thus far, but you still have to "wait" until you've used up most of your other cap room before you do that.

MLE with no more cap space = $5.3M.

With some cap space = $2.something Million.

For all we know, Roberts might have been in talks with more than just us and would have been off the market had we waited. To say that "it would make zero sense" to sign him before Stephenson is making a statement that you don't have sufficient information to make.

They are doing exactly what logic says they should've done. Not sign him yet. It just so happens there's a way they could commit him without tying any money to him yet, and in light of that information, they are doing what they should do, which is just another version of what I said I would've done.

I think the logical thing about it is that we have him locked in now and can still pursue lance instead of pursuing lance and then taking whoever is left after that.

And the way they've locked him in is just another version of what I said they should've done. Not tie any money to him before you can pursue a Stephenson with all you have.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
