NFL.com: Cam Newton primed to regress

This night has all the makings for a huddle suicide watch so why not! Go scream into a pillow or turn up some Jack Daniels and feel better.

As a huge Newton fan and believer, this season sets up as worrisome. The weapons around Newton are miserable; the Panthers have the worst wide receiving crew in the league, even if rookie Kelvin Benjamin is effective. The offensive line lost two effective starters in Travelle Wharton and Jordan Gross. The Panthers are counting on their defense and running game to carry them, but it's hard to imagine the defense playing better in a division where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons should improve.

In short: We expect Newton to do his part. He's a young, improving franchise quarterback. But he's probably going to get blamed when the team around him sags.

Nevermind that these are actually some valid points.

I saw this and until our receivers can prove themselves the media will continue to predict our pass game to struggle. I personally believe that we will be okay considering we cut players that dropped many passes and replaced them with players that can catch passes.

If Chandler can prove himself than we will end up with basically the same offensive line as last year.

wow, another crappy list. I thought the regression tag was slapped on young players, not players that can see the twilight of their careers.

clearly this was just to sh!t on Cam but didn't want to be obvious about it.

I see no valid points.

Plenty of valid points. Title is misleading.

He is a Cam fan.....says he will be improperly blamed and take all the heat if we struggle thanks to a weak OL, weak WRs and weak traditional rush. He pretty much endorses Cam as legit with a legitimate chance his weak cast holds him back......which it could

NFL.com title is misleading, I just used their own words.

These lists are uber dumb though. It must be nice to work at nfl.com this time of year.

I still see no valid points that Cam will regress, only that perhaps the panthers might.

If this is the media's mindset going in, I see no difference compared to his sophomore year from a media perspective even if we make the playoffs.

"He's obviously going to slump/regress!"

and per the author.....the Panthers regressing will cause Cam to unfairly take the blame. That is the why it works with QBs. If his teams sucks and can't protect him and make plays....Cam had a rough year.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
