Yesterday before practice I saw these two guys chatting.....

Which got me thinking about the current Miami Hurricanes connection for the Panthers.

 

Ken Dorsey was the QB of the 2001-2002 Hurricanes. He went undefeated in 2002 but lost the Championship game. Dorsey had both Jeremy Shockey and Kellen Winslow to throw to... interesting considering the Panthers are stacked at tight end this season. Dorsey should have great insight into QB-TE connections for Cam.

 

His offensive coordinator in Miami? None other than Rob Chudzinski , whose playbook remains somewhat intact for the Panthers. Chudzinski was influential in the Panthers hiring Dorsey as a pro scout in 2011.

 

Greg Olsen missed playing with Dorsey by one year, joining the Hurricanes in 2003. Olsen spent one year at Miami under then Offensive Coordinator Rob Chudzinski. Olsen went on to become a first round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 2007. In 2011 Olsen joined the Carolina Panthers once again in Chudzinski's offense.

 

Dorsey is well liked within the Panthers organization, and I am told has a real future in the NFL Coaching ranks.

      You joke, but hasn't basically the whole team been in Charlotte this past week together? I'm not one to see the random dumb stuff players put out on social media in the offseason and think it means that's ALL they've been doing and not working on their game.  But it's a little strange that all this is coming out at the same time we're seeing tons of stuff with the team in Charlotte together, even if it's just working out and not even official team OTA's or anything. So he gets a pass from me saying anything now, but if he doesn't show clear improvement this season, it then opens him up to some retroactive criticism for some things.

      Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
