Smitty may be even more pissed than we thought (Panthers related)

He's not that far off. Good first round pick, meh mid round, and poo late rounders. His management style might be getting us out of cap hell, but really he's kind of keeping us there. I mean he did franchise Greg Hardy, cash strapping us this year, sound familiar? He hasn't yet given out a large contract, but he will soon, and we'll know if he's better than Hurney then. This whole "12-4, 12-4" talk is rubbish as the players that got us there was Hurneys picks, with the addition of Star, who Hurney would have more than likely drafted. Short was a good call, no question, but the rest were a dumbster fire as usual.

As for him not drafting more WR talent, OL talk. I'm looking at where the Gmen are right now, and it looks like overpaying some positions, depleting others didn't get them too far.

Because we still have to pay someone to play, and now pay him dead money as well. His production won't be replicated with cheap alternatives that in all only save us a bit of cash. Cam & Luke, and I guess you've given up on Hardy's contracts will probably be back loaded. The cap is going to rise quite a bit in the following years, and with Beason's and other contracts being dumped he was still a viable player for the money we were going to pay him. I know everyone here likes to laugh at his almost 900 yards or whatever last year as the only real option at WR, outside of our fuging TE Olsen, but he still put up those numbers with a Shula offense, while missing games because of injury. He and Benjamin, and Olsen would have made this team a fuging nightmare.

This is the problem, we went from a 12-4 team last year that SHOULD have beat the 49er's, and with only a few small pieces to being in Superbowl talk this year, to now possibly making the playoffs by the skin of our ass and even that being an unknown at this point.

Paying a 36 & 37 year old 5'9 WR with diminishing speed, poor hands, & a bad knee injury $25 million over 2 years would've been the biggest contract fail in team history.

Y'all are letting your fandom of a guy turn you into complete morons.

so in 2 years our new gm drafts a wr in the first round. and you somehow know he's not gonna add more talent because after 2 years you know so much

Well, if G-man hasn't done anything else, he has brought hope. We know what he helped to achieve before.  I can't speak for the other guy, but I'm giving him a couple of years to work our way out of cap hell.  I am not gonna stake the house on it, but I fully expect him to get Cam another weapon or two that doesn't have to be from the bargain basement racks.  That will be a sweet day, and a long time coming.

Not holding my breath, but if Hill could...ooohhh lemme stop.  I'll believe it when it happens.

yeah he can be 80 year old and 5'1 and still produce over 800 yards with no one to the opposite to him and he'd still be worth it

check drop rates of top WR's again tard

a bad knee injury? he was busted up for a couple weeks

keep grasping at staws. It's been one week and the old man playing the slot has already racked up 188 yards and a td.

all these are hypotheticals we have no way of knowing.

we have a new GM. this isn't marty hurney

Your post that I originally quoted was a hypothetical bro. What's your point?

I'll try not to be a demeaning smart ass like you just were with the breaking news that we have a new GM. I'm well aware, see my other posts within this thread. I know you're probably referring to Hurney's track record for player loyalty though, so I do get the reference. Smitty wasn't done, the Panthers quit on Smitty, and after years of sacrifice, he never once quit on the Panthers, although we were all terrified when he cleared out his press box. Or did we conveniently forget how every Panthers fan panicked back then. It was said then, that he was done, that he'd lost a step or two. Then he had a career year with Cam as a rookie. Panthers fans are the most fickle in the whole league, they jump all over his "drop" in production last year without looking at the additions of Ginn, the emergence of Donald LaFell, and a career year by Olsen. A drop in production due to more of the same. Double teams, shadows to his side of the field, and no one to command a double team anywhere else on the field. As you can tell, I'm not a casual fan, and can talk football. I welcome any and all intelligent dialogue in rebuttal

I love how you talk out your ass, and then he suggests it might not be as your faults have pronounced, and now you're indignant and poo.

Or I'm just not going to argue with someone who clearly knows more about anything Panther related than anyone including the employees of the organization.

    • I mean I think its a bit disingenuous to call basically anyone here a casual fan. I don't think the casual fan creates a profile then logs into it, in the offseason, to comments on mundane offseason topics.. I dont think anyone on here would be considered a casual fan. That said, I get your point. My POV is from the player. They sign this contract, move their family because of these contracts. When Clowney came him, we basically had a coming home party for him.  So yeah, I get why we did it and I know that ultimately the owner doesnt 'save' money, but I can feel for the human side of the player, which is why I want them to get all they can while they can.
    • My guess is the NBA will either send Flagg back “home” to the Northeast in Brooklyn or Washington, or San Antonio so that they can keep building around Wemby. If I was a betting man I would take the odds on the Spurs. This definitely feels like a #1 pick that they will rig.
    • In fairness, she is ensuring she is talked about.  People really aren’t going out there way to bring her up.  It’s some weird poo.  She would end up getting talked about given her actions if she was 40. Bill realizing some of these high end “companions” got a game of their own.  That’s what I don’t think Bill saw coming.
