man what a day

Without going into detail for privacy details (of my students, not mine), let me just say this has been a hell of a day.

Ups and downs... full of triumphs and tribulations, good news and bad news.  Wanted to hug a couple kids, wanted to flat out kick a couple in the face, and just scratching my head at a few others.

This is one of those days where I sit back and wonder "how long can I keep doing this" and in the next breath "how could I ever do anything else".

Being a high school teacher in a public school in NC....never a dull moment.

Sometimes it's a job you hate to love.

Not sure what my point was in posting here since I can't mention any specifics. I can't even have a couple beers to unwind because I may have to go out to a school-related event later.

Coming from a public school system here in LA, I can appreciate the work that you do. Keep your head up and drink when you get home and kick ass tomorrow morning.

Meh people have forecast the future demise of civilization for decades. Most teens are good people down deep. Gotta look through the hormones to see it.

But more often than not they up becoming productive citizens. I can't tell you how many times I've seen even kids who were complete screwups in high school later on become darn good people.

    • I mean, he's a professional athlete.  What you think as a fan vs what he should think as a player are completely different.  Being bad doesn't mean you should lack confidence in yourself, and really that is true in all forms of life.  Do everything you want to do with confidence. Justin Fields sucks, but does he ever play like someone who doesn't believe in his own abilities?   Obviously you need more than confidence to be a high-level NFL player, and Bryce will never be that.  But he could still create 2-3 extra plays a game if he allowed himself to play more "free" like he did in the second half of last season.  The fact he refuses to use his legs to pick up yards nowadays hurts this team.  Simple things like that would go a long way for us, even if not for him.
    • I've always thought it odd that the QB is the only guy in the roster who carries a record. If a RB puts up 1200 yards but the team sucks then everyone still says the RB had a good year. If a QB puts up good numbers put the D is atrocious and the win loss record isn't great due to that then the narrative is that the QB can't win. Now that we're finding a way to win with suddenly dominant D and dominate running game people are trying to shift to this "Bryce is just a winner" narrative while he puts up bottom of the league numbers while near the top of the league in turnovers. It's just funny to watch.
