How much has our D struggled lately?

The D is really, really bad right now.  They've played one half of good defense in the last four games.  I was really hoping that the 2nd half against the Bears was a sign that they were getting things figured out, but today's game erased that hope.  We've given up 30+ in four straight games.  We held our opponents to 14 points and 7 points respectively in the first two weeks.  Does Hardy really make THAT much of a difference?

It all starts up front at the line of scrimmage being unable to put pressure on the quarterback, because a below average secondary gets light up like a christmas tree and one of the best linebacking corps in the NFL is stuck right smack dab in the middle of a sh.. storm.

Calling our secondary below average is being kind.  They're terrible.  Unfortunately, we rely on front seven play to cover up for that and our DL play has been far from stellar.  Short is really the only DL we have who has stood out this season.  I think CJ is more limited by his injuries than we're letting on and I'm not sure what's going on with Star.  With Star's style, he may just be easier for teams to game plan away from.

Yeah we were bad, but we were finally pretty good in run defense, of course the stats won't show that because of big 89 yard run but other that that play we did pretty good against the run and kept them in third and long.

Of course they kept converting them tho

The fact that we held the Lions to 7 points is amazing to me. The AFCN just seems to have our number:

Opp PPG (AFCN): 37.3

Opp PPG (NFC): 15.0

Hopefully it's due to lack of game planning or something like that specific to the AFC. I can't imagine that Hardy, while valuable, was straight up the linchpin of this defense.

Wish Frank Alexander wasn't a knucklehead. We could really use him right about now.

Greg Hardy is one of the best if not the best pass rushers in the game right now,and Frank Alexander could more than likely be starting in CJs place.so your stuck with two stud DTs only in their second year, having to try and do way too much in order to compensate for the guys playing beside them on that defensive front.can you imagine KK besides Hardy and offensive lines not having their hands full?

Believe me,this aint about poor coaching from the reigning NFL coach of the year and McDermott.its about the lack of or loss of talent up front. Why,do you think DG which is a man of few words said thats where you win the battle at the line of scrimmage and gave a cash strapped team 13.1 million dollars to one player and cut just about everyone else because of money.IMO,DG is absolutley right because better defenses are more likely to win the superbowl, why, because for one its a fact and two it has a greater impact on the scoreboard at the end of the game.
