What is the Cam Newton standard?

I'm glad someone finally pointed out that Luck isn't doing it all alone. The Colts have spent valuable resources (early picks, chunks of cap space) to surround Luck with weapons. Just because they haven't used those picks wisely doesn't mean they weren't trying to do it.

The Panthers, on the other hand, seemingly decided to wait until this past season to finally upgrade Cam's weapons (Benji in the first, Turner in the 3rd), but it's still nothing compared to the resources invested by the Colts to augment Luck's offense.

Excellent post. To add, they didn't just bring in just any ole body to help Luck, the often bring in people Luck is comfortable with...his college roommate, his college OC.

As to your second part, preach! The Jags in this past draft have tried to do more the help Bortles succeed than the Panthers have done in 4 years.

Season ticket holder from the beginning, wear my #1 jersey to games, scream my lungs out, and driving the Cam=GOAT bus. He's that good and we all have seen the progression. I even said Cam's passing=MJ's jumper before our head coach said it publicly. It doesn't get loftier but I have logical reasons for believing it and I'm a fan. I don't see the problem.

There is no problem with that. Some people on here are just dicks to people because they think their opinion is worth more than it actually is. I won't name any names because of the new rules here, but I'm pretty sure you can Think About It and figure it out.

I think Bucky hit on what has frustrated Panthers fans for 4 years now. He is held to a higher standard than other QBs.

You look across the stat sheet and advanced statistics there isn't much difference between him and Andrew Luck as a passer, who has become ordained by media and has excuses made for him when he doesn't play well, but they don't give Cam the same benefit of the doubt. That doesn't take into account Cam's rushing ability either.

I can't really say what that standard is because it is always changing. When I think of Cam and the media (and some fans) I think back to the old school "Rowdy" Roddy Piper saying:

"Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the question!"

When drafted I just wanted someone that gave us a chance. Now, fair or not, the GOAT is my standard. To whom much is given, much is expected. So far, I have not been disappointed. He has been to this stage of his career and I fully believe he's on his way.

Man beautiful post

Because he really is THAT talented, and people expect him to be able to take games over by himself and win a game involving 21 other people on his team, by himself. It is like how Lebron was treated before he won a title. It's not hard to see that pound for pound Cam is pretty much the most individually talented player in the league.

Yeah, but he still needs other people. Because his HC, and OC, rarely allow him to "take games over by himself", such as last Sunday in choosing to kick the FG.

    • So dumb I get it, they want to expand the reach of the NFL, but it's not the right sport to be playing games halfway around the world for a variety of reasons.   But one of the main ones is what happens if a player has an injury in that game? A lot of times, you're not supposed to fly right after some injuries, so when they happen here it's not a big deal, the player stays in that town for a few days and then flys home separately.  But that opens a whole bag of worms if the game is played all the way out in Australia. Plus just needing that long of a flight to get out there and back, even if they get a bye week after, it means a ton of travel and needing to adjust to a new time zone directly after another game.
    • I don't think it was fear of the unknown because he tried to hide the extent of the injuries that made him drop. After the drop, the reports I heard were that teams knew what was wrong with his knee and it was something similar to another athlete from a few years ago (honestly don't remember if it was even a football player).  That it was basically one of those things where he should be fine for a while, there isn't a huge concern of immediate injury risk.   But what he has going on with his knee is something that is degenerative and there's little chance he'll be able to play more than 5 or so years on it before he won't be able to play anymore. So basically it was teams knowing if they draft him, he's probably going to be only a rookie contract player and even if he's great, you might not be able to get use out of him on a second contract.  Which in turn makes the drop make sense, but I'm kinda surprised some contending team didn't take him late in the 1st, hoping he'd put them over the top on a SB run but then not even have to worry about giving him a big contract in 4 years too.
