ESPN insider reporting Canes looking at trading E. Staal

Figured I'd add this, based on the same thing and earlier reports.

Darren Dreger: The asking price for Eric Staal would be enormous. The Leafs and Hurricanes have talked in the past. Would cost them a first round pick, either Tyler Bozak or Nazem Kadri and likely Jake Gardiner. Dreger thinks the Leafs would pay that.Bob McKenzie: Staal likes playing with his brother and has a no-movement clause. A trade would only happen if he wants it to happen. Sames goes for Jordan Staal and Cam Ward.

TORONTO - Eric Staal is apparently willing to waive his no-trade arrangement for a deal that would land him with the Maple Leafs.

The question is: Have the Carolina Hurricanes reached the point in which they are willing to trade their best and highest-paid player as part of both a salary dump and the beginning of a possible rebuild?

I don't see how this one doesn't get done, Staal wants it and the Leafs want it to get done. Does J. Staal gets traded as well and to which team.

Only really other possibilities is Semin (not likely, don't think he's worth much.) Ward (high price, might be worth something though to someone.)

Then maybe Skinner because of injury issues...

Just adding to the fire sale rumors circling the team right now. Seen some reports that the Staals would be traded together as a packaged deal of some sort to the same team. (only a few teams able to take the cap hit) Also Andrej Sekera is likely to be moved as well.  Jeff Skinner is also highly probably to be moved if a good deal surfaces for him. Some of these rumors have been swirling for a while, this season would be a good time to sale off and build for the future with picks and talent.

Should be an exciting season even with a bad team.

I've heard about Sekera to Philly.  It would take a massive trade for someone to acquire Skinner.  He's seen by most as our biggest young talent.

No lie, last year I traded both Staals together to Colorado in NHL 13. Got Duchene and Stastny in return. It was much better for the cap :P

    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
    • I mean, our TE room does suck but we had other pressing needs and no surefire upgrades in the draft. I was surprised at how many TEs went in the first three rounds. I think most everyone was. You want a guy who projects at least as a guy who has the potential ceiling to be a starter in those rounds and I didn't see 11 of those in this draft. Off the top of my head, I think that's how many TEs went in the first three rounds. It was in that range. That's roughly 10% of the overall picks. Definitely did NOT see that coming with this TE class.
