get on the gus bus

Can you elaborate on the not an NFL guy comment? I don't really watch a lot of Auburn games so I don't know what this means. What seperates him from Chip, Harbaugh, Carroll etc who made a successful leap into NFL from college?

I guess what I'm saying is that, in my opinion, deep in his heart Gus Malzahn is still a high school coach.  I think he's enjoying the huge money he makes as an SEC head coach, don't get me wrong, but I think at heart his greatest enjoyment comes from developing young players.  And college still has that element of "teaching" the game and developing maturity in young men.  Hell, he was still a high school coach LESS THAN TEN YEARS AGO.

Like I said, I could be wrong.  But I don't think the professional player is or would be Gus's cup of tea.  That's just the impression I get from him.

Money, however, has always been known to do a good job changing impressions though.

You're an auburn fan so I'm preaching to the choir but lets be real about Nick Marshall: he's nothing special.

If by "nothing special" you mean "doesn't have a lot of NFL potential", I can agree with you.

If by "nothing special" you mean "not doing much for Auburn in Malzahn's system" then you don't know much of anything about Malzahn, Marshall, and Auburn *AT ALL*.  Malzahn recruited and signed Marshall because he wanted him.  Stole him right outta Kansas State and Bill Snyder's hands, as a matter of fact.

Malzahn wouldn't have been anywhere near the BCSCG last year WITHOUT Marshall under center.  Nick Marshall is an outstanding and incredibly dangerous college quarterback in the Malzahn system.  Personally, I don't know what you've been watching if you don't realize that.

We need to figure out if the offense problem is Cam or the coach. I feel like it's the latter but DG needs to convince JR cam needs a year with a diff coach to ensure he's worth the 100+ mil we are about to pay him.

Time for JR to be an owner who wants to win instead of an owner who wants to make money only...I'm about done with this franchise if we continue to just stand pat and pay a guy when we aren't willing to surround him with the best and brightest. Take a clue from Indy and the nut job that runs that team.

    • Ultimately it's up to the other safety prospects to clearly outplay Scott. I think when that happens on tape against other teams it'll be addressed. I think none of them have done that definitively and consistently yet.
    • Night and day difference in the front office investements.  Since Morgan has been in the FO (5 years)....4 out of 5 first round picks have been offensive players.  The one defensive pick was a corner. Expand it out to the first 2 rounds? 7 out of the 9 picks have been offensive.  That IMO is why our D sucks so bad.   You build defenses up front.   Carolina hasn't been investing there.  Ron's first 5 years? 3 of the 5 first round picks were defensive players.  Expand it all to include second rounders  7 of the 10 picks were defensive.  All front 7 players.
    • I think he gets this year to show what he can do.  Last year, we had a lot of injuries. This year, we should have some players, even if we lose one or two.  It's the first preseason game.  Some of the starters weren't even in it.  There is no scheming or game planning.  Let's see how guys do when it counts. I think we have a GM that knows a thing or two about defense.  Let it play out.
