This coming from my wife, a very casual football fan

Your post is stupid. Don't tell me about PR you twit. I have a degree in it. Do I tell you about all your pseudo psycho mumbo jumbo? Your opinions are just that: opinions. They aren't based on anything more than your own limited beliefs.

Seriously? It's what I do for a living, and what Panthers55 says is the truth. You don't go airing all that in a news conference. Yes, you can give reassurances to your constituents (fans), but you don't call people out. You address as best you can what you can in the press conferences, but you deal with those details in the background. You don't throw people under the bus like that.

yea i dont know why people think they need to hear what their wives think they see. i guess totally throwing everyone under the bus, dividing the locker room and losing respect from players is what they want, until, uhm it happens and then what? 24 hours hasnt happened yet for the majority of the dumb to be removed.

Except for the fact that this kind of terrible PR can destroy franchises. If the fans think the HC and the GM don't care, then why should they. These guys NEED to be seen actually giving a poo, that's why so many people hate the stoic bs that Rivera does.

DG not saying anything just creates an echo chamber (which this forum is close to becoming) of circle jerking. He should take responsibility and let the fans know he is aware and working on fixing these problems.

This is exactly the time to say something.

Exactly,  I guess the difference is between what they teach you in a textbook and what actually happens in the real world. Plus it depends on what side you are on.  Journalists and writers want to hear about the dirt and the controversy in a press conference but the guys conducting the press conference like the Panthers know the ramifications of doing that in real life.

Of curse they give a poo.  It is their jobs on the line.  DG is not in a position to fix anything 10 games into the season.  It isn't as if there are a ton of guys who could come in and help.  He will address the issue at season end which is appropriate and make changes then.  There is nothing that he could say that would change anything but better performance on the field which is exactly what they will continue to try and do for the next 6 weeks.

Where did I say call people out, and all that foolishness? That is P-55‘s stupidity. A general statement acknowledging that there are some problems that will be addressed, and assuring fans and customers is all I stated that was necessary.

Seen as "giving a poo" is quite different from addressing what "every grandpa, wife, girlfriend, etc." sees and "knows." If fans think DG or JJR aren't "aware" and working on the problems, then they're crazy. Of course, they are ... it's their livelihoods.

I guess I think that's a given (see my post above) ... that they are aware and are addressing the issues.

I said you don't call people out and do your business in private and you called me ignorant and stupid and said I know nothing.  She agreed with me and now you are saying you did nothing wrong and are still calling me stupid.  Seems to me you are the one overreacting here.  Isn't part of journalism knowing when to be quiet and let it go.  Perhaps this is the time........

Not trying to insult your professionalism or intelligence in any type of way (like some assholes that shall remain nameless), but one of the things that I was taught many moons ago is to never assume anything. That being said, this is more about P-55's trying to put words in my mouth and insult me on the down low. He goes through these periods where he tries to take his opinions and pass them off as fact. Every blue moon, I call him on his bullshit.

I certainly don't want to get in the middle of the two of you.

What I was saying is that it really doesn't always help to state what should be obvious ... speaking from "this" side. I know what the fans/customers may want to hear, but it's not necessarily what you can or should give them ... depending on circumstances. They also don't want to be patronized, and you don't want to come off as sounding like you're doing that.

In my head keeps running our sort of rehearsed line ... "the safety and well-being of our (constituents) is our primary concern." It's something we must say in certain situations ... but it's also a "given." If we don't say it, do people assume that we've not concerned about that? I certainly hope not.

I get it. I just believe that there is something that can be said, and not in a way that appears patronizing.

Not trying to sound elitist, even though I probably do, but the masses have proven themselves to be intellectually limited IMO. But that's probably for another forum. W.E.B. Dubious thought along similar lines...

    • 99% of my complaints generally are front office complaints.  It may not appear that way always but that's where I have been for some time.   It's also why I constantly talk about random parts the last several years....  to this day, if they were going to draft Bryce Young....I thought they needed to do specific things.   They have literally done the opposite.   In a certain world, I would LOVE an AT.  A Bryce Young.  An XL.  All sorts of people.  How they have chosen to put it all together here? Meh.  I still think if Bryce Young is your QB....the easiest and obvious play for a team....would be a dynamic slot WR, a rec RB, and solid rec TE.  Spread it out.  Let him be the point guard.  I still think this team is being built for a different type QB....one that a Jake Delhomme style QB would thrive more in.  Which is in fact the heart of what Canales has been around and done.  So I nitpick it all.  If I had thought Bryce Young was going to rebound....I would have NEVER been all in on XL like I was.  I was all in XL because I thought the BY experiment was about to over quick.  Ladd would have made way more sense if you believed in BY IMO.   I don't think this team did.  I think Dave drafted XL because they were mentally ready to move on and did after 2 weeks.  and I thought the Frank think was bologna from the jump.  I just have hate the pairings and plan every since Rhule year 1.   Rhule year 1 was the last time I really thought this team was in a good place to give it a go.  It went horribly.  But....the zoomed out plan was pretty logical all around.  Rhule just was not ready and a clown on top of that.   I still think the Dave, BY, XL, Tmac build 3 round pegs and a square one at the end of the day.  Worst thing to happen to BY was to land in Carolina IMO.   Which is often how the NFL plays out.  Where you land and what the org does matters probably more than raw talent/ability often.  I do not actually have a problem with Adam Thielen in a vacuum.  He is overperforming in a vacuum all things considered.
    • Bryce Young could throw for 40 tds and 4500 yards this season and my gut instinct still says you would triple down on hating him.
    • They should just be predetermined slotted contracts.  I feel like that was the intention of the current system, but they left too much room for interpretation about guaranteed money.  I agree though.  You play for who drafts you or you don't play.
