I don't think anyone questioned his scouting ability.

I think he's done well so far and I've never been on a fire Gettleman bandwagon but being great on draft day doesn't excuse mistakes or criticism the other 362 days of the year.

That said, he's a billion times better than Hurney.

Bull. Go back the last two months and read what some people were saying. They most definitely were questioning his scouting ability.

Also, the dude has been doing work outside of the draft too. How many gems has this man found already from other people's practice squads and UDFA's? I can't wait to see what he can do when we actually get money to spend.

Towards the end of the losing streak, blaming around the Huddle typically went Shula -> Rivera -> Gettleman.  Plenty of blame was thrown at Gettles for not getting a better 2ndary, counting on nobodies for the OL, and letting Smitty walk.  We know the complaints about the other two, and more people bitched about them for sure, but plenty of idiots were suggesting Gettleman be gotten rid of.

What is awesome is that the Jon Beason trade is what landed us the opportunity (7th round pick) to get Benwikere. I think a lot of people originally thought the trade was a waste since we only got a 7th rounder out of it, but that 7th rounder proved to be a very valuable tool for us.

That's another reason why it's stupid to worry about draft position. Good players will always fall to later rounds, which is why good scouting beats draft position any day.

Amen..........the Steelers build a dynasty in the 70's on draft picks hidden away and ignored by others ..........most are in the HOF.

A savvy scouting team indeed!

as much as i hate top, having a solid o line to keep drives rolling has helped keep our D fresh I think.

O line is foundation for winning.........a dominant O line moves the chains........move the chains and you eat up the time while scoring.....keeps the defense fresh and off the field ready to go in the late stages of the game when others are worn out.

No QB in the world is any good without a dominant O line................we saw a hint of a that on both sides of the ball during our final game with Atlanta.....

I have seen Payton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rogers and the rest of them all struggle and stink out a joint when they didn't get good O line play......

Do you know what was a thing of beauty to see?

In the Atlanta game when Cam ran for the TD and surged in the push behind the O line on short yardage driving the ball into the end zone................at that point of the game I knew we were going to win because we had the dominant line pushing their front 7 straight back...........God I love to watch a good O line work the field like that..........
