Arians press conference

It would have been easier to keep them motivated if he actually coached better and won a few games. He kicked a field goal for a tie on 4th and short in the redzone. We needed an embarrassing miss from Mike Nugent to hold on to that tie. That is pathetic.

If we wouldn't have made that 4th and goal we would have loss the game and guess who would be in the playoff? More than likely not us.

Many of us on the Huddle are accused of having a Man Crush on Cam Newton and being very sensitive to criticism of him, or even praise of other QB's.

Your man crush appears to be on Ron Rivera (your usually a defender of him, and a critic of others, such as the now departed Harbaugh)?

Much of the criticism of Cam by national media is 98% off base, seemingly by guys that have never watched one Panther game (mind you Newton play), or even seem to care to watch. However, no one outside of Charlotte criticizes Rivera though....Never!

So what gives? ;)

I didn't say anything about Rivera, who I have both duly criticized and defended depending on the context of the argument in question. And I wasn't being overly critical of Arians, who is a very good coach and deserves plenty of praise for what he's done with the Cardinals. However, he has his flaws, just like any coach, and has been notorious for putting a rather large burden on his quarterbacks, which is what got him in trouble in Pittsburgh. People here are acting as if he suddenly morphed into Belichick lite or something.

As for Harbaugh. . .well, I won't rehash my old criticisms but I find it quite hilarious how much the media echoes talking points I made years ago.

Fair enough.

However, you have been a big time supporter of Rivera here previously. More so than most of us.

And I'm not sure why you would felt the need to chime in the way you did when Arians was being praised. Bringing up what he did with Luck, when Arians made the playoffs there, and has made the playoffs two years in a row with a talent deprived, injury riddled Arizona team (with all due respect).

Plus, we're talking about what Arians doing now, not in the past. And there's no QB in Arizona to over use anyway. So that doesn't matter.

Do you feel Rivera is a better coach than Arians (as you did with J. Harbaugh)??

Come on Prophet. You know the reason why San Fran and Harbaugh parted ways had nothing to do with football. As a matter of fact, most fans of the team are irate he's gone. The San Fran CEO said so himself during his press conference. They know, and virtually stated they're on the hot seat!

I chimed in because this is a forum and I was perplexed by all the accolades for an opposing coach who I severely doubt most here even know much about beyond the fact that he's next on the schedule. And making the playoffs in the AFC South in any year is about as big a deal as us making it out of the NFC South this year at 7-8-1. And they didn't make it last year despite going undefeated against the same AFC South.

What Arians has done now is commendable in a somewhat weaker NFC West but also features a 2-4 slide recently (obviously the QB has a huge amount to do with that) and a defense that has buckled under the pressure.

I'd say Arians is a comparable coach to Rivera, as in they are both good Xs and Os specialists in their areas of expertise, well-liked by their players and run relatively drama-free regimes. Harbaugh proved to be deficient in all three of those areas, riding a talent-rich club to its limits, playing angles against his own players, and having been targeted for his ouster before the season even started despite all of his success.

what is it the kids say...he got swag? Yeah, Arians has swag. That doesn't however make you a better HC. Makes it interesting for media dudes.

I agree, he isn't in some different coaching tier than Rivera. Not a big enough difference to boast about
