Compensatory Pick

have the panthers set to get an extra 5th rounder, with the possibility of getting two additional 6th round picks.

the 5th round pick would be for Mike Mitchell.  Hell of a deal for a one year rental....and maybe a strategy worth considering going forward.

the 6th rounders would be dependent on how Cason and Webb are viewed relative to Munnerlyn and Ginn.  Again, possibly why Cason was cut when when he was.

So all those people that were saying we are going to get a 3rd and 2 5th's and have these extra picks better pump the brakes a little.  I knew we were getting one for Mitchell, I was hoping for a 4th but a 5th is ok.  I was hoping we would get one more and think we will get one because Webb played so little this year.  An extra 5th and 6th is not bad.  Not great but not bad.

I think you are right, this could very well be a strategy going forward, especially for a team that builds primarily through the draft. The later rounds of the draft and FA is how teams build depth and/or fill holes e.g. ST.

of course.  but that is more or less why we wouldnt get a comp return for losing lafell.  that + snaps is the base formula with lots of little extras added on top

there are lots of tricks to getting comp picks, which can and should be exploited on a regular basis.  look at the ravens, they ALWAYS focus on sign players who were cut specificallly so they dont counteract players lost for comp picks.  same reason why GB finally signed Pepper as one of the very few FA they have signed in years.

Lets hope someone pays Hardy $8m+ per year!

You think Hardy can get us a third?

    • I mean, I think you're being a little hyperbolic with the last statement, but point taken.
    • Pass rush was the biggest issue in tonight’s game, and we were tied for 28th in sacks this season. That is a major area of need that has to get addressed this offseason. I just don’t see a path where there’s a game changing QB you can bring in with where we are drafting and quality of veterans that will be available. We certainly can do better than Dalton as a backup, and should ideally have a developmental guy  (perhaps a day 3 pick this year). We have bryce for one more year on a reasonable contract and then I think 2027 is the year that you reset that position (unless he massively improves).
    • Agreed, honestly basically bringing this group back as a healthy unit would be alright.  Brady Christensen should be resigned to a very reasonable deal with him recovering from the Achilles.  Atleast we're alright at 4 of our 5 spots with Lewis, Mays, Hunt, and Moton, Nijman was decent.  While if we can snag a deal on someone, take a stab, however our resources need to go to Linebacker, Pass Rush and a real option outside Tmac (coker is amazing, but if we can get someone who isnt braindead opposite Tmac, we can fully unleash Coker AND Tmacs full potential, cant move him into the slot if racoon boy is out there licking doorknobs).
